RE: Basic questions about Class B's

I notice most class B's have small FW tanks and very little storage. For those that dry camp how do you carry extra water? Also are there any class B's made with a slide and some kind of basement storage? It can actually be fun to figure out how to camp with limited water/storage....
We bring a few gallon jugs of water stored under the bed for cooking and possible emergencies. We don't bring lots of unnecessary stuff to set up camp - no pink flamingos, etc...
X2 Most of our camping is boondocking, and we can normally go about a week. We go to enjoy what's out there, not set up house. The 'B' has been perfect for us. Do you carry extra water with you? I see the 190 has 31 gals of FW. Do you use wood block to level your 190?
We normally carry a couple of gallon jugs of water with us. I have a set leveling blocks, but I've only need them a couple of times. Another perk of a small 'B' is you can move around in the site until you're level.

RE: MI extended stay at home

This virus is new enough that there is very little data available. The health community cannot come to any agreement as to what works and what doesn't. It is also doubtful that a vaccine (tested) will be available anytime soon.
Here in Michigan, we have a loophole in the emergency powers available to our Governor, and she has taken full advantage of this. The majority of cases center in the Detroit area, but the lock-step lock down strangles the whole state. It appears that Our Leader may be angling for a possible position in the next federal election.
Just MHO.
The ENTIRE southern part of the state as in south of the thumb are still very much hot beds and so is northern Illinois and Ohio. This stay at home policy does error on the conservative side but make no mistake our governor is looking out for you and the demands on our hospitals and medical staffing. If the self-righteous and greedy legislature had their way you would be in the bars and casinos now and the second wave could get its grasp and be far worse than the first.
I think from those that know her that this state is her passion and the people here. She is one with both feet on the ground and is far more intelligent than any past offerings I have known. (think Flint).
You have made your political leaning quite clear, and I disagree. Opinions should be encouraged on all fronts however, and I respect yours.
Happy camping!

RE: St Louis to Elkhart Indiana

I looked up directions on Google and it’s giving me a few different routes to take from St. Louis to Elkhart Indiana. I’ll be hauling my fifth wheel and was wondering if anyone had any preferences on which way to go as far as which of the three different options is better highway.
Have traveled to that area from Colorado, destination being a bit further east of Elkhart, so I've driven portions of what I'll suggest.
I-55 to I-72 to I-57 to US 24 at Gilman exit, then east on US 24 to US 31 north to Elkhart. With the exception of the I-55 portion, that's the way I usually go to get to extreme NE Indiana near Angola.
X2 This route works. If you want a farmview (slower) route, you can get off I-57 in Kankakee at M17. Many semi's use this route to M-41 or I-65 to bypass some of the Chicago traffic. M17 becomes M2 and will take you all the way to South Bend. You can then go north on US20 'til you hit Business US20 to Elkhart.

RE: Michigan state parks extend closures

Ron Olson, chief of the DNR Parks and Recreation Division, said he and his staff are eager to welcome back campers and visitors, but proper safety precautions and maintenance work must happen first.
“We know millions of residents are eager to return to state parks and recreation areas, and we will be here to serve them and make their visits as enjoyable as possible, but we have to open the right way and be certain that facilities and sites are clean, safe and ready to accommodate everyone,” Olson said.
Prep time needed to get facilities ready
To prepare state-managed parks, trails and boating facilities, many important tasks must be completed once nonessential work is permitted. The department anticipates staff can start work May 15 once the stay-at-home order is lifted; prep work is expected to take roughly five weeks. Duties include:
• Acquiring drinking water permits from county health departments.
• Opening bathrooms.
• Hiring and training seasonal staff.
• Ensuring sanitation systems are running efficiently.
• Making progress on infrastructure needs.
• Other operational duties
Looks to me like it's the DNR that's the issue here, not the Governor. They're the ones saying it's going to take them 5 weeks.
Ron Olson can't squeeze blood from a turnip. Budgets won't allow but for only so many folks to work on the projects. However, the timeline could have started weeks ago to have things prepped had it been allowed. This is the same governor that pulled the "Pure Michigan" funding.

RE: Michigan state parks extend closures

It appears that the current Michigan governor doesn't like our state very much. As she was primarily elected by the Detroit area, she has consistently neglected the remainder of the state, even before the lock down. Considering the amount of use the Michigan government-controlled parks and campgrounds get every year, Many businesses will not make it that depend on tourism.

RE: Class B camper Van

Wanting to downsize? Rent a B and camp for a week. Camp in your favorite places. Hopefully two or three days will have rain. Then you’ll know if your wanting is realistic.
x2. We truly enjoy our class b, but it isn't for everyone. Try one first! It's a lot of money if it doesn't fit your needs.

RE: The camping industry is going to be hit hard

Things are running a little differently during this crisis, so it makes it harder to predict. Here in Michigan, the current restrictions are scheduled to end at the end of the month. I do not believe the legislature will allow it to go longer than that. The governor already has over 80,000 signatures on a petition to have here recalled, but she seems to be playing up to Biden for a VP bid. And on it goes!

Seems as though 'social distancing' is easier while camping than many other activities. Enjoy!

RE: Homeless people coming to your favorite campground!

The vast majority of homeless have issues that defy solutions. Mental illness and substance abuse is the underlying causation of homelessness.
Yes.. but most of those are on City streets
Not with family in RVs at campgrounds.. Those people have financial problems
X2. Too many jobs don't pay enough to pay all the bills as well as the sky-rocketing rent and housing costs.

RE: Alone or in a group?

My DW and I typically travel by ourselves. We sometimes meet at campsites with family, but not often. Also, I like to solo camp locally most of the winter. Something about snowshoes along a trail that is very satisfying.
