RE: My luck ran out,, Hail Storm.

Sorry for your troubles CC. I have been in only 2 or 3 hail storms on vacation and they were pretty soft with no damage. (FYI when a roof vent blew off once I used and umbrella in a rain storm. It worked great!)

RE: Scale weight, confused by to much data

You're ok in MHO. But I would try to get about 500+ more on the steering axle if it were me. The idea is to get all the tires doing to same amount of work if you can. If you can't, call it good and go on vacation.

RE: Should I consider an onboard air pump??

The volume of air in an airbag is less than many bicycle tires . If you are only gonna do a couple times a year I would not spend three or four hundred dollars on an on board compressor . Maybe buy a kayak or fish pole ? Too hard for me to run along side the truck and put air in or take air out of the air bags for the conditions of the roads. And the ol lady will not sit on the bumper and do it. :B That makes the decision of a compressor an easy one. And while you're at it WB. Take that electric tongue jack off of your trailer.

RE: Should I consider an onboard air pump??

I have a blue tooth compressor system and I would not do with out it. Had it for 2 years or so. I use it a lot. I can adjust it with my phone or my fob. Blue tooth gives me the option to adjust to road conditions on the fly. If you live where they put salt down I would protect the compressor as much as I could from it.

RE: hitch lock??

My thought? If you're camping in a place where you are worried about getting your trailer ripped off you're camping in the wrong campground.

RE: Oil Change - synthetic oil

There it is again. Stretching to the full 15,000 and what does the oil analyzer say? Go 17,000 Why is anyone still at 5,000 intervals if driving a lot of highway miles? Because an oil change is cheaper than an engine. And if you ever seen the inside of a motor that had extended oil change intervals you wouldn't be so quick to say go as long as you can! Why push it and possibly cost your self $5k to $10 or $12k!So you are saying Blackstone Labs is giving bad information? I’m saying I’m not relying on outside sources to maintain my vehicles I have $100,000 plus of my money in! So you don't think a lab that can tell you EXACTLY what shape your oil is in is any good? :R :S

RE: Small mistakes can make big problems

Hopefully it was truly "brand new" and the toilet hadn't been christened yet. Send him out to buy a shop vac and dry it up. Then some bleach water clean up. Unfortunately my nose told me that was not the case. This couple was super nice and it made me very sad that this happened. He was trying very hard to make a great vacation for his family. Much like the movie RV his heart was in the right place. They were very great full for the small advice I gave them. I hope it works out for the best for them.

RE: Small mistakes can make big problems

He didn't have enough sense to turn the water off before he went looking for help? He may be destined for more problems in the future. Ya, I thought the same thing. But after talking to the guy he was just lost on the whole thing. He just didn't put 2 and 2 together. I don't "think" it was a rental unit from some of the things he said and their were no markings on the MH that I saw. I felt super bad for the guy. He was trying hard for a good RV experience but it didn't work out that way because of a small mistake. And in his defense it was a small mistake. :(

Small mistakes can make big problems

Think you're having a bad day? I bet these people have you beat? So I was setting up my travel trailer last night and as I was hooking everything up a young guy comes up to me and says "excuse me sir, I'm having a problem and was wondering if you could help me?" I said sure, what's up? He said he was new to RVing and he was having a problem as water was coming out of his toilet. I said what? He said "water was overflowing out of his toilet." I thought he was yanking my chain until I looked about 4 spaces down the road and sure enough, gallons of water was pouring out of the underbelly of this brand new class C!!! I went into panic mode and screamed at him to turn the water off NOW. We both ran over to his MH and he turned the water off. Black water ( read, sewer water for you new RVers) continued to pour out of this new MH. I nelt down and found the black water valve and I opened it and out came a lot of water into the sewer drain. I explained that he left the black water sprayer on and did not open the black water drain valve and that filled up the black tank until it was so full it overflowed into the MH. I gave this guy a little more advice and I walked off numb. I wanted to cry I felt so bad for this young family. He explained to me he just wanted to have the perfect vacation for his family and now it was ruined. The lesson of the day is if you are new to RVing and don't know your systems please learn before you go out on an outing. Small mistakes can turn into big problems.

RE: Onan Marquis Gold 5500 LP generator - Reviews ????

Another down side of propane is it has a lot less energy than gasoline so you will use a lot more fuel for the same amount of run time.

" My understanding is, Amsoil doesn’t make anything." You should get your facts straight. My OE didn't make it 20k and was SHOT per Blackstone Lab report Per this White Paper Report that's not shocking. OEM Mopar lube came in second to last out of all the lubes checked.

RE: TT Tire Recommendation

I bought a set of Goodyear's a few years back. They pulled hard to the left so I got rid of them.

RE: Tire air pressure question

I tow with mine at 60/80, but generally drop to 60 all around when I'm not towing. Makes the ride nicer and the rear tires wear more evenly at the lower pressure. There's no reason to run the front tires at a higher pressure, the front axle weight doesn't vary all that much regardless of hitch/pin or cargo weight. Same here . Same here.

RE: Electric vehicle mandate in California

My question was why Turtle has so much fuel stock reserve at home and no generator? For the public during a disaster any transportation fueling is going to be difficult for gas, diesel or EV. None will make it to a truck stop in TX from the California EV mandate. Time you really need to stop reading into my posts what you want them to read. Where did I ever say I didn't have a generator? I don't need it for my car. I can drive my "electric" car on gasoline anytime I want. OR if it's charged, I can drive on electricity only if I want. OR I can charge my car with the gasoline engine in my car. It would be silly for me to use 2 to 3X's the amount of fuel to charge my car when I can just put it in the car and drive. You see, with my car I have a choice. The old saying of "it's nice to have options" holds true in my case.

RE: Electric vehicle mandate in California

That 3 day period was not for lack of generating capacity. That is the part I don't get. I never said it was. Nowhere in my post did I say it was because of lack of generating power. The point is, I didn't have power to charge my car. It doesn't mater why. If a gas station doesn't have gasoline or diesel for some reason, I have many others to choose from. With electrical power it's one and done. PG&E is my only choice. I can store million of BTU's on my property very easily and cheaply for many months of running. Not so with electricity. The worst thing is to only own a pure EV on the coast. If a hurricane come guess what happens? Ya, the power goes off. So you're trapped because you don't have any "fuel" to run your car out of town. Do you really think PG&E is not going to start shutting off power again because of heat and wind? I will say it one more time. It does not matter whether it's lack of power or heat and wind liability. If the power is shut off, it's shut off and I can't recharge my car.

RE: Electric vehicle mandate in California

Anddddddd let the rolling blackouts begin!! Looks like no charging my car tomorrow. :(A 1 hour rolling blackout vs days in some recent toronado areas seems like a manageable situation. :h Because my PG&E 3 day blackout turned into a 5 day blackout last year. Just like a 1 hour blackout can turn into a 1 day blackout. That 3 day let alone 5 day was not for lack of generating capacity. Can you ever tell the real truth? Follow along. PG&E lied about the time the power was going to be off.......BY A LOT!!!! So do you really think they will be on the money with "It's will just be off for an hour?" Seriously? And Shiner brings up a very good point. I lived it last year with my BHB car. Fortunately I had about 50 gallons of fuel at my house so my wife and I could get to work. I also had about 1000+ gallons of diesel fuel on hand so I could drive for months. If I only had an EV that would not have happened. Do you get it now?

Remember, nuke and FF make up 90% of the electricity made in this country.

RE: Electric vehicle mandate in California

California has a mandate for electric vehicles in the future. Just read with the extreme heat PG&E will have rolling blackouts because of power shortage. Noticed this in previous years as well. Do you think requiring electric vehicles is putting the cart before the horse in not having a updated power grid to handle the increased demand of charging electric vehicles? I think mandating any type of technology is dangerous. It stifles development of competing and perhaps better technologies. Requiring a maximum emission output is one thing. Stating how you "must" get there seems illogical. I disagree as anything that can be cheaper, more available and a better mouse trap will always float to the top of consumer desires. Then why mandate it? :h
