RE: My Folding Porch

For some reason the pictures in the original post are very blurry for me... don't know if it is my laptop or something else. Can they be reposted somehow?

RE: Disney world in July

Yes, Fort Wilderness is worth it. Having said that, the "free meal plan" which is sometimes included with staying in other on-site Disney hotels can save a lot of money. But... The Fort is an awesome campground just by itself! Too bad you only have 4 days there, you will find it is just not enough time. "Hoop-de-do-Review" at Fort Wilderness is worth seeing. There is so much to do there, really consider if you want to wait in line for a ride for 2 or more hours. Take advantage of whatever they have for the "fast pass" system these days, use that for the most popular rides. Otherwise, look around! There are so many attractions, shows, rides, etc there might be something right behind you that has a short line and is very much worth seeing. Keep your eyes and ears open for specials, passes, etc. Sometimes employees walk around giving out "stay late" passes or "get in early" passes... they can really be fun to use. Does someone in your group have a special occasion? anniversary, birthday, etc? Get a button from the town hall to wear for that occasion. Employees will see that and it is fun getting recognized, and sometimes (many times!) they will do something special for the person or group - from an extra dessert or treat to maybe giving you a special access pass of some sort. It has been almost 10 years since we've been, so I am sure some things have changed. Look around on forums for ideas and tips, and when you are at Disney... Ask! Whatever the question is, many times they will go out of their way to help.

RE: Stationary camper roof repair advice...

If the camper is definitely going to be under a permanent roof / shed, why not just throw a tarp over it for now?

RE: Where to park on 2 day travel from park to park

Hello, you’re all being conned by s once-and-done newbie poster with a ridiculous question bound to elicit lots of opinions. Dave Give a little more time, only been 1 day.

RE: Camping in VT, NH, ME, NY Looking for suggestions

Two suggestions... Acadia National Park in Maine - Fantastic "bike" paths, called "carriage roads", you can spend days riding. Hiking, mild to strenuous climbing, views around every corner. Bar Harbor is in Acadia, if you want to do the tourist thing there. Fort Ticonderoga at the north end of Lake George in New York State. Excellent historical site - colonial fort, one of the oldest (if not oldest?) forts in existence in the continental USA. Worth the visit if you are at all interested in colonial history.

RE: Steps vs side step bars

I've got full length bars and like them. One thing I do suggest... make sure that whatever you buy is securely attached to the truck. I see so many "aftermarket" steps and step bars that are not safe to use because they were either installed incorrectly, or just poorly designed. If you have a choice, go with "frame mounted" steps... I don't see how bolting the step just to the body work will last with use.

RE: Alone or in a group?

We are mostly alone now... usually one or two trips a year we have a friend or two meet us at a campground. Years past, especially when the kids were younger, we did a couple summers camping with up to 3 other families. We found out quickly that the "caravan" thing just doesn't work, better to meet at a campground. We had a LOT of fun! Now, wife and I find out of the way campgrounds and plan a touristy thing to check out, then just sit under the camper's awning and read books. Just as much fun as years past, just in a different way.

RE: Niagara - campgrounds on the Canadian side

About 10 years ago we stayed at the KOA on Lundy's Lane. It was well run, clean, employees were polite, campground bathrooms were clean and maintained, kids playground area and equipment was in good shape. The public bus that goes to the falls stops right at the entrance. We had a great time, and our kids enjoyed the campground. I have no idea if the campground is still as good today. Edited to add: We had dinner at the Skylon restaurant, and enjoyed it greatly! Good to really good food, and you can not beat the views!

RE: Make a "Smart" RV ?

Wouldn't all the wifi switches for houses work on an RV? Just install them? Light switches, heater thermostat, stereo, etc and you can control them with a smart phone? I know very little about this. Is this related to the "nest" system I hear about for homes?

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

... Colapsible sides are good idea, something Jpanese trucks had like forever See at 5 min https://youtu.be/w34xFrAbPBM I just skimmed the video, looks interesting. Is that a custom / commercial body? You can buy aftermarket custom rear bodies for US trucks and make them do whatever you want. I meant having a "factory look" rear pickup body that can drop down, similar to Dodge/Ram toolbox body.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

This isn't really related to "electric" vehicles, but... Speaking of how high pickup trucks are. It would be interesting if a vehicle manufacturer came out with a pickup truck with some sort of collapsible sides. Dodges (Ram) have the tool box bed (which I think is great), what about instead somehow having the side drop down 6 or more inches? Also, it would be interesting if a manufacturer came out with a "low rider" truck... just take all the spacers out from underneath that they use to lift the trucks. Unfortunately I don't think it would sell enough to make it worthwhile. But I can dream!

RE: EZ-Pass. New York or Massachusetts account?

I have not heard of "EZPass Extra". From what I understand, any state that uses EZPass will recognize any EZPass, no matter where you got it. What does the "Extra" do?

RE: Cruise testing, I would be uncomfortable

Today, more and more vehicles (especially cars, but a lot of trucks now) are using computers to drive. The steering wheel, gas pedal, and brake are NOT actually connected to the wheels or engine... they have wires going to the vehicle's computer, and that computer decides if it agrees with the driver before steering, accelerating, or braking the vehicle. The majority of the time this is good, and gives better traction and control. Some off road and work applications are better if manual, but not many these days. Going to "full self driving" is not that much of a stretch from what we have already.

RE: Camping Lights

In a commercial campground, especially one labeled as "family resort", I have no problem with the camping lights as long as they are not shining directly into my camper. I am expecting a busy campground with kids running around, golf carts buzzing by, moderately loud groups around campfires, etc. When we go to busy campgrounds with friends, it is nice to have stairs lit up and the funky awning lights hanging. At the rustic campgrounds (no hook ups, heavily wooded) we enjoy going to I do not expect to see lights all over the place and will politely ask if the lights can be turned off or at least turned down. So... I don't thing this really answers anything! lol

RE: Mount trailer tires yourself at home?

...I read a bunch about balancing trailer tire and came to the conclusion most are not... Yes, most equipment trailers that travel mostly local, lower speed roads don't "need" to have tires balanced. But... for my camper, which I tow on highways / interstates at the appropriate speed, I want them balanced. And it is usually very inexpensive, especially when included in a package price of buying new tires.

RE: September 2020 Suggestions/Advice

I don't know distances, but will you be anywhere near Phoenix, Arizona? We were just there and visited the Phoenix Zoo... and I was HIGHLY impressed! Something to think about if you are nearby.

RE: Battery Replacement Assistance

So how are you not satisfied with your existing battery setup? Does the battery die before the 3 days are up? We routinely camp in non-electric campsites, and with careful use of power (similar to what you posted - lights used sparingly, refrig on propane, and using water pump), we easily last 3-4 days camping, with battery power left over. Are you sure something else isn't draining your battery? or... as happened to us early in our "camping career", daughter was playing the CD stereo in the camper all day while we were gone... lol! Otherwise, sounds like the 6v batteries are the way to go. We are actually thinking of getting a small generator this year. We find ourselves going to non-electric campgrounds / parks more and more as time goes on.

Is there a short version of the "update"? And I really don't understand the thread link about idling a V10?
