RE: When is weight distribution needed?

Thanks for the additional information... Just to follow up I did a ~60 mi 'test tow' with fuel in the trailer tank (30 gallon fuel tank behind axles) and my Indian Springfield loaded up in the rearward position. This lifted my truck by ~1/4" so I'm assuming about 1200lb-1300lb tongue weight (shows 1400lb on the website) and right around 10k lb total... My impressions: Sway - Almost non-existent.. we had some 15-20mph gusts and the trailer settled down immediately with no white knuckle moments. I tried some various speeds from 60-75mph and felt comfortable at 70mph the whole time... Bouncing - after hitting bridges/expansion joints the trailer would again settle down quickly... Overall I think the lack of sway and significant bounce made this tow very similar to my old setups with HD trucks with the WD/SC hitch... Thanks Hannibal for the link.. This is exactly what I want! I have (& used) the 4" drop version of this for my test. And it looks like the front end is about 1.5" low or so (without firewood in truck bed) so this should level me out.. (also should tow even better!) Btw, truck was pretty much level now.. Thanks for the video as well - that was perfect for my situation/concerns! I was going to drop a picture here but not sure how to play that game anymore (been a while) - so anyways, happy camping!

RE: When is weight distribution needed?

I'm thinking a 1-2 hr 'test tow' might be a good start before our first trip... But I might wait till the roads are dry so I don't get our new toy dirty! Also I'll have to load the Indian to keep the weights/distribution real..

RE: When is weight distribution needed?

Thanks for the inputs and advice... Appreciate everyone's time for responding. I think I'll try it on a shorter trip with the bike pushed forward in the kitchen and see how it tows since I'm well under all posted limits.

RE: When is weight distribution needed?

I'm certainly an advocate for WD/SC hitches in general and on my older 2500 and 3500 SRW trucks... But I'm well within the limits on this monster (new Dually) which doesn't even recommend WD in the manual... Taking 1400 lbs or so tongue weight hardly even squatted my truck (has a 5700lb payload) (yes I know payload and tongue weight are distributed differently) I was surprised they don't even make a 3" Weight Distribution setup... I'm just thinking it's an overkill for my situation this time around..

When is weight distribution needed?

I'm not trying to stir the pot (well, ok - maybe a little) but my question is serious... In the old days the hitches/trucks required WD and Sway control for over 5k lbs... then we went to 2.5" hitches... Now my current truck has a 3" hitch... Here is my setup: 2019 F350 Dually Crew Cab Diesel 4x4 2021 Grand Design Momentum 28G travel trailer toy hauler Specs show my truck can HAUL (w/o weight distribution) 2100lbs on the hitch, trailer shows about 1400 lb tongue weight - maybe less when it's loaded (Toy Hauler)... 12k GVWR and 32' long... Truck has built in sway control... So my thoughts are to drop it on the ball and try it... Am I nuts? I have no issue getting a WD/SC hitch setup but it seems like an overkill in my situation... And they don't even make a 3" setup that I've found - only 2" or 2.5" and both would need sleeves/adapters to fit my hitch - which I was always told to not use an adapter with a WD hitch... Thoughts?

RE: Any deals?

It took a good bit of negotiations thru several dealers, but I landed on a Momentum 28G locally for a price I'm happy with that I'm picking up next week. Thanks for the input! I just looked up the floorplan. That's a real beauty. Nice. What kind of toys do you plan to haul? It looks like there's plenty of space from front to back, as long as your toys aren't too wide for the slide. Thanks.. We wanted the open floor plan for our Kayaks but the toy hauler for my Indian Springfield. We also have a Rincon as well that I like to take out.

Thanks for the suggestions and input... I'll keep shopping around till I find a deal I'm good with.

RE: Any deals?

I appreciate the insight and suggestions so far... Luckily I don't 'need' to buy one but with 'some' inventory back on the lots and minimal 'sales' as winter is approaching in this region I was hoping for a little better pricing. It's not as much as what I can afford (I'm shopping apples and oranges) but moreso about getting a 'decent' deal to have equity in case I need to join the thousands of people unloading the unit next summer IF the economy crashes... I have been watching used units as well and still shopping around, was just curious what others expectations were. I would be a little concerned about the warranty aspect of buying wholesale, so that's why I've been trying to work with our local dealers. I also understand the manufacturing complexity and increased costs on EVERYTHING in life now (bikes, boats, RV's, vehicles, lumber, houses, etc). Just too bad our pays didn't go up like that! ;) But it sounds like I'm on the right path and deals are simply harder to come by than the last few RV's I've bought... The most annoying part so far is so many 'contact us for pricing' on all the ads!

RE: Any deals?

I've been using rv trader as well, I don't like how most dealers won't list prices anymore... I also generally try to shop local, I won't lie... Just wasn't happy with the deal they offered me. It's nice to see ~30% off example shown above - maybe 'deals' still exist!

Any deals?

Currently I'm looking at Toy Haulers (very different designs - one IBEX and one Grand momentum 28G) and it's been a few years since I've been shopping.. I know Covid put a hurt on the the inventory and deals but can you still get 30% off MSRP like the 'old days'? Just wondering what everyone has been seeing...

RE: 5.3 vs 6.2

My 6.2l w/ 27' 5k TT was a pretty decent combo... I really enjoyed the extra power.
