RE: Towing with a 2022 Ford F250 7.3L

OP, are you getting the regular cab, extended cab or crew cab? The bed lengths for the 250/350 are either 6.75' or 8'. The wheelbase you mention of 148" would not be for a crew cab truck. Crew cab f150s with a 5.5' bed have 145" wheelbases.

RE: Truck - family of 5 and 65lb dog

Get a class c or class a motor home and tow a minivan. Problem solved.

RE: Looking for SUV recommendation

I would prefer a body on frame. Durango or Tahoe would fit the bill. Tahoe can be had with the new 3.0 diesel so mileage would be good. A modern Durango is a stretched Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both are unibodies. And towing with the V-6 should be avoided but the Hemi v-8 should be ok. OP, you may want to check out the newer Ford Explorer or Lincoln Aviator if you don't want full size. The turbo 4 or turbo 6 is better than any naturally aspirated 6 cylinder currently available and are better than some V-8s especially in the mountains.

RE: 2022 Grand Wagoneer

It's about time they introduce these to the market. They should have done it twenty years ago.

RE: You have 13 yrs 11 mths left to buy a GM gas or dsl vehicle

Wouldn't one of the better solutions be that the vehicles themselves were somehow solar panels? Why can't the hood, roof, upper quarter panels, etc have built in seamless solar panels so they charge all day? Think about many of the vehicles that sit baking in the sun and clouds all day while people are at work. Why couldn't the vehicle capture all that solar power. And when vehicles are move? Why couldn't they incorporate some type of attractive micro wind turbines that would capture wind energy from a vehicle moving forward? Evolution in these areas would make vehicles more self sufficient and less reliant on charging at night or whenever parked. And it would make less reliance on the government or other third parties to provide energy to the vehicle. I'm about to buy a new ICE vehicle but I would be very interested in buying an electric vehicle for my wife and kids. However, I think the teslas and other EVs are frickin ugly just like the Prius.

RE: 1500 curb weights

My 2017 Crew cab f150 weighs about 4,950 pounds. It is a loaded XLT, 5.5' bed 4wd 2.7 eco boost. GVWR is 6,500 pounds so the payload is just over 1,500 pounds. Fords use a bit more aluminum in their half tons so I would expect the Ford F-150s would be a little lighter than comparable half tons from other brands.

RE: GM's Max Trailering Package

If you are towing in the mountains a lot and want to stick with a half ton, Ford's 3.5 ecoboost will be hard to beat. However, GMs's 6.2 liter v8 is a great motor as well but I would rather have the turbo. For what you are asking, the right half ton will do the job but you must be sure it has enough payload.

RE: favorite tow vehicle for small trailer??

Right now, my short list is: Outback 2.4/turbo 3500lb tow Subaru Ascent 2.4/turbo 5000lb tow Honda Passport 3.4L/V6 5000lb tow Toyota Highlander 3.5L/V6 5000lb tow I looked at the Rav4 and really liked it. It is very tempting. The wheelbase seems the shortest though. I hope to test drive them and that will thi the list out methinks. The RAV4 is a compact suv and has an even lower tow rating and is just a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated four cylinder which wouldn't be adequate. Of your shortlist, I'd choose the highlander.

RE: favorite tow vehicle for small trailer??

Toyota 4Runner or Toyota TAcoma. The 4Runner is a very dependable suv and delivers good fuel mileage. Both can be had new with some shopping. The 4Runner delivers less than mediocre fuel mileage but will be more torquey than the highlander or the passport. OP, maybe check out a couple year old Ford Explorer sport with the 3.5 eco boost? This all assumes you want an SUV and not a pickup.
