RE: Closed campgrounds

Add Wisconsin State Parks for camping until end of April as of now. Day use areas are currently open.

RE: Thoughts on the 'need' factor of a main line surge protector

We all have a fire extinguisher in our campers and hope we never have to put it to the test. But if we need it it's there. Same thing with a EMS. If you consider what it will cost to replace all the onboard electronics: AC, furnace board, tv, fridge, water heater, etc, an EMS is low cost insurance.

RE: How much do dealers pay for the RV's they sell

I was talking to a guy that's snowbirding next to me and we were discussing RV prices, discounts consumers should expect etc. He works for a dealer in his home state during the summer months so he was able to buy his rig at dealer price. He told me his 2019 Jayco Pinnacle 5th wheel had an MSRP of just over $100,000 but he paid $54,000 for it. He said a dealer typically is paying 51%-52% of the MSRP + the freight cost to get the rig to the dealer. I told him I had recently gone to the Tampa RV Super show and dealers were advertising 20%-28% off MSRP depending on the rig, but no mention of the other costs dealers like to attempt to get consumers to pay for (Freight, Prep, PDI fee etc.) so there was no way of knowing if the prices were "out the door" prices. He said that you should start negotiations at 30% of MSRP and then get the dealer to "throw in some stuff". I said I got 28% off my rig plus tax but I didn't get anything else thrown in. He felt I could have done better. I felt if I walked away hoping the dealer would do better, I would have not been able to buy my rig from that dealer. I had a strong feeling that was as good a deal that I was going to get on the 5th wheel I bought. So my thoughts are this...Why should a dealer be making more than 2 grand on any sale? That seems like a fair profit for them. Realistically I'm pretty sure we aren't going to get discounts that deep but why not? Why do we accept 25%-30% off MSRP, allowing the dealers to make a bundle on each sale, and then have to accept lousy customer service following the sale in many instances? If the 51%-52% numbers my neighbor talked about are accurate, shouldn't we be negotiating up from that number rather than down from the MSRP? Considering their overhead I doubt they'd stay in business very long.

RE: Reversible Vent Fan

Last 3 RV's have had a reversible Fantastic Fan. Seldom used the intake mode. We do have the thermostatic control which is useful.

RE: Surge power protector- hard wire or portable?

Went with the hard wired PI EMS for reasons stated by other posters. Took me about 10 minutes to install the main unit and another 5 to run wire and mount display unit.

RE: Personal experience with having slides and no slides?

we're on our 5 camper, all with slides. Wouldn't own a camper without them as the extra room they provide is great. Never had a problem with them but I do follow the same preventative procedures as DutchmanSport above.

RE: Stuff in your storage compartment?

Do you have extra fuses in the toolbox? Open up your camper fuse box and see what amperage you might need.

RE: Canvas end zipper help!!!

had that happen to a jacket of mine once. I had to feed and interlock each tooth of the zipper one at a time to get it on the pull thingy. Took a while and if it ever happens I'll get a new jacket.

RE: Best Location for MaxxAir Covers?

so every time someone uses the toilet when its running, it sucks the stink right from the black tank when the toilet is flushed. That's the problem. Turn the fan off when using the toilet. Turn it back on after flushing only after the flapper is closed.

RE: Help!!!!!!!!

Welcome from Wisconsin. Even though you're looking for something small for the 2 of you the first consideration is what are you going to tow it with. Last year we downsized from a 37' 5th wheel to a 20' TT. It's tight but works quite well for the 2 of us and the dog. Easy to tow, easy to find a campsite to fit into, etc. Ours has a fiberglass roof and it's really easy to clean. Just wash it like I do the rest of the camper which is fiberglass. There's alot of units for you to consider based on TV, budget, wants and needs, etc. Good luck with your search and take your time.

RE: Tips how to sell TT

When you take pics to post in your ad make sure your camper is cleaned up. I've seen pics of units for sale with dishes in the sink, boxes of cereal on the counter, clothes laying on the bed, etc.

RE: Remember the EM 50?

There's an auto repair shop not far from us that's had one of those parked behind the shop for years. Hopefully it belongs to one of the owners/employees and they are slowly working on getting it back on the road.

RE: rv extension cord

I would recommend a 25' extension cord. Combine that with the power cord from your 5th wheel should be enough to reach the power pedestal. Keep in mind if your 5th wheel is 50AMP the extension cord like your power cord will be heavy.
