RE: Tires

You can't go wrong installing a set of Maxxis M8008 ST tires. They are available in 8 ply rating. Be sure to have them balanced.

RE: Is there something wrong here?

If you have a rack style slide, this is some good stuff to use. Go to YouTube and there are videos on how to Lube it.

RE: Ram 2500 Diesel

Please go to this website and check the specs for your particulate vehicle. You won’t be lacking power as the 6.7 can handle your trailer. It’s nice everyone is offering advice, suggestions, and opinions, but why not ask the people that designed and built the truck. Go to the website.

RE: Hard time finding a short full mattress.

If you have an Original Mattress Factory near you, check them out. We were Able to sample all their mattresses then chose one which they made to size for our fiver. I wasn’t going to buy a mattress without first laying on it.

RE: Tripod stabilizer

When I use my tri-pod, I drop the front of the trailer down and load the tri-pod. It makes a different when moving around in front, a little when moving around in the rear of the trailer. If I adjust my Strongarms per the instructions and use my tripod, my trailer is very stable.

RE: RVPetSafety vs Marcell

We use RV Pet Safety and it has worked very well for us. It does notify of a loss of AC power. It then monitors battery status. We were out West in 100+ degree weather and it kept us informed of the temperature inside the trailer. Easy to use, reliable, and reasonably priced.

RE: CBD oil

With all the brands hitting the market it’s hard to find one you can trust. I’ve been using CBD oil and a balm from Hempbombs. They use organic industrial hemp, USA grown. The biggest thing is they use a third party for testing. They both have helped me and my family. I’ve read where it can help dogs so check them out.

RE: Question for mechanics about replacement starters?

I recommend a new starter from Ford. The first one lasted 200K, didn’t it? Warranties on reman units usually only cover the part, not the labor to R&R it. BTW, I am a retired mechanic.

RE: 5th wheel hitch

I have a Reese 15K Pro that I had to replace after 5 years, but is was covered by a 10 year warranty. If I had to do over again I would have requested a B&W be installed when I purchased my first fiver. Live and learn.

RE: Raleigh to Charlottesville, VA advice

Thanks. Taking US29 N out of Greensboro never occurred to me. Think we’ll plan our route back home that way. On the way there we’ll take the 288 bypass around Richmond.

Raleigh to Charlottesville, VA advice

Heading up I-95 to attend graduation ceremonies at University of Virginia towing a 37’ fiver. Need advice around Richmond. Should I stay on I-95 through town to I-64 West? OR take 288 by-pass to I-64? Should make it to Richmond before 3:00 pm.

RE: Building a Fifth Wheel

Would be more interesting to know whey they can't come up with common wire harnesses and conduit/channels to run them through, instead of the spaghetti-thrown-against-the-wall mess most have. :-/ Seriously, 12v harness and 110v harness for rigs 20-25', 25-30', 30-35' and > 35'. Could easily be pre-made by a vendor; main conduit/channel down the centerline with wiring branching off. I suggested this while visiting the Sabre factory back in 2011. The plant manager told me wiring consumed the greatest man hours during assembly. I even offered to help design one as I’ve built harnesses in a former life. Obviously not interested in 21st Century production processes.

RE: Negative/Ground wire

My battery is grounded to the frame with a self tapping bolt. I removed it, cleaned the contact surfaces with a wire brush, installed the screw then painted it to maintain a corrosion free connection. Has worked fine since 2013.

RE: Selecting new TT Tires

Maxxis makes a Load Range E in that size. I’m on my 2nd set. They’re a proven quality tire. Make sure they’re balanced. Click here:Maxxis M8008 ST tires

RE: Sloppy socket fit on lug nuts

Why not have the tires balanced and install new quality lug nuts at that time?

RE: Leveling help

I also use 2x8 boards that are 4’ long. I installed handles on the edges to make it easy to move. I’ve used them on both my fivers since 2007. I place a 9” long level door way to check level. The jacks on the rear are not leveling jacks just for stabilizing. I was too cheap to order them on my Columbus. Rarely have I had to use both 2x8’s on top of each other.

Their current models’ manuals are available online, but you can contact Palomino directly and they might be able to assist you with your request.

RE: Apex 251RBK Towing

We towed a Jayco TT with our 2007 Tacoma Pre Runner with the long wheelbase. We made it one season before switching to our current TV. You will definitely know it’s back there. Make sure you have a good hitch setup and don’t plan on getting up to speed very quickly as the V-6 will be working hard and revving high. The engine can handle the revving, though you might be a bit nervous. I strongly recommend towing the rig once loaded and see how much you weigh.
