RE: Finally added the solar Next up, water storage

HThat battery can be well supplied by 100 watts of solar assuming full sunshine and that you use no more than the 40 amp hours the battery can supply without causing premature damage.A 100W panel can put out 7A when it's aimed perfectly and using an MPPT controller. With 5 hours equivalent sun that's 35AH. With a PWM controller, it's more like 5 or 6A. If the panel is flat mounted knock off around 30%.

RE: wiring a 30 Amp Power Outlet 30A Circuit Breaker {{UPDATE}}

It really doesn't hurt anything to just plug in your RV without switching off any breakers. If there is already a 30 amp outlet on the side of your house, I wouldn't do a thing other than use it. If it bothers you to plug and unplug your rig with the circuit live because you think you will somehow damage something in the RV, just switch off the main breaker in your RV before you plug or unplug, exactly the same as flipping off the an outside breaker. That way you don't have to buy anything or wire anything up.Exactly. And with mine, since I have an EMS, you will never plug it in live unless the EMS is in bypass mode. Just make sure everything is off when you unplug. Not a big deal.

RE: New satellites are messing up our night sky

So ... satellites up there at only 217 (342?) miles are going to stay in orbit for how many years? (Of course Elon is probably developing a ground or spacecraft based laser cannon to melt them away near their end of service.)The International Space Station is at around the same height orbit. It's a lot larger than any of these very small satellites. So...do you have WiFi in your house? Use any kind of Bluetooth devices? You of course don't hold your cell phone to your head right?

RE: New satellites are messing up our night sky

Hmmmm .... I wonder how folks are going to like the latency issues with satellite Internet?Geosynchronous is 22,236 miles. The Spacex satellites are at 217 miles. BTW, how's the research going into the/any subtle RF effects on humans? If you are really worried about that, stop using your cell phone and turn off your wireless router. Turn off your computer while you are at it!

RE: Best charge controllers..

In MPPT Bulk it seeks Vmp. In PWM mode in Absorption and Float it lets go of Vmp and does "on demand" with voltage varying (not constant) The voltage appears to go higher than Vmp down the knee and back up the knee if demand increases. Actually it is turning on and off (PWM) with durations varying. What happens when you have multiple panels in series and the VMP is over 40V? That's right...has nothing to do with Vmp

RE: New satellites are messing up our night sky

These aren't stationary, are they? I thought they were in low Earth orbit. Which means you can see them move against the background of the stars, and they will mess up long exposures. The sat trails will look like white lines going across the photo. They aren't stationary which is the exact reason they are being put up. They can be closer to the earth than a geo stationary satellite. I am actually looking forward to them. Great internet everywhere!

RE: Best charge controllers..

So.. PWM, with its switching the higher voltage on and off extends battery life and removes sulfation, while MPPT does not? MPPT results in shorter battery life? Is there an MPPT charge controller with a boost? Mode? Boost mode is for cleaning off sulfate?MPPT only functions in bulk mode then moves to PWM for absorption and float. It does't really run in a PWM mode other than to limit current so it isn't really the same thing as a PWM controller. It is still doing its DC to DC conversion at all times. During absorption it is in Constant Voltage mode. It can still deliver higher current that the max current of the panel which is the drawback of a PWM controller. You only get the max current that the panel provides with a PWM controller. An MPPT controller is essentially just a DC to DC converter. If you have panels wired at 100V putting out 10A for a 1000W, trust me, you will be putting in more than 10A in absorption mode.

Is there an MPPT charge controller with a boost? Mode? Boost mode is for cleaning off sulfate?Say what? Victron MPPTs have equilization modes if that is what you think you want. No reason these days to buy a PWM. The price difference between PWM and MPPT is so small, just get an MPPT.

RE: Another Solar Controller question

100 solar watts is at best 5.50 amps per hour. Times, at best, five hours per day...27.5 amp hours to the batteries. Peanuts. Solar panels aren’t that expensive.X2 Get another solarpanel and spring for an MPPT. They aren't much more money and totally worth it.

RE: Camping Lights

Some of you tight wads need to rename your hobby to Cramping! Why should i let your cold dark cramping seep onto my warm Festive site? If I want dark and cold I'd camp in a cemetery. But I choose to camp with others,, and like a box of chocolates,,,,you never know what your going to get! Here's news people,, aint changing my life style to match yours,,Get over it! Another Californian, just goes to show, why I choose to live country. Please don't lump us all in the same group with this clown.

RE: Camping Lights

Some people are wound way to tight! Lighten up! It Called Festive! A celebration of sorts. The joy of camping! You all ever been beach camping?? What about all the twirly things spinning in the wind? The festive fish spinners? I enjoy it and appreciate the joy of it! And now with all the little solar light twirly spinning nautical theme things, Its allot of fun! And in reality,, If it Irks you,, you have chosen the wrong Hobby! Maybe the Desert is for you? But to be honest, when we camp in the desert I have an LED flag pole topper that changes colors! It serves two maybe three purposes. Its a camp locator when you are out on your dirt bike/quad/or side by side. Its patriotic (red/white/blue) and its FESTIVE! AND,, It can run all night! And if that bothers you----Don't ever camp at a NASCAR Event, Its always a FESTIVE event! P.S. Be happy you are not my sticks and bricks neighbor, I have them in my back yard and some in the front! HA! LOL...proves many people's points on here about consideration of others!

I probably won't be getting an electric car anytime soon myself but so funny seeing these Tesla bashing threads all the time. Are people really that threatened by the success of them that they feel they have to do this?

RE: Chevy 8.1 truck with low miles?

There is a reason GM got rid of it! Emissions was the big killer of the 8.1. It was a filthy Large bore engines of that era were filthy as far as emissions went. That's why Ford went to a V-10, smaller bore lower emissions. Technology was not all that great back them compared to today. In its day the 8.1 was a good truck engine. Why didn't the 8.1L have more power and get better gas mileage? 9.1:1 compression. But then once again, I don't think the intention of this thread was to compare to old against the new. Just to reminisce the old 8.1.And why was it a filthy engine? It was because it was not an efficient engine! That's why they killed it.
