RE: Adhesive for Aluminum roof to plywood?

why not use the EPDM rubber roofing material used on most RVs. its probably not much more than aluminum in cost and probably easier to install. use Dicor self leveling sealer for any penetrations and you'll be good to go. I sure wouldn't want an aluminum roof with screws of any kind in it if I was looking for long life. Google RecPro, Dicor EPDM roofing Jay D.

RE: Hot brakes and Tall trailers

Agreed. Sounds like too aggressive on the trailer brakes perhaps combined with too much depending on brakes instead of using lower gears and engine braking. If your TV lacks a tow/haul setting on the transmission, it is up to you to gear down at the top of a hill. Having an auto transmission does not make sticking it in D and forgetting it a good option outside of the “normal” non-towing transmission program, which is set to get you into the highest gear possible and take advantage of free-wheeling down hill to maximize gas mileage. I, too, tow with an SUV with a 6 cylinder engine. While the transmission has a sport mode, it has no tow/haul mode, so I put it into manual mode heading downhill. I can go down a 15% grade at speeds up to about 40 mph in second gear (6 speed gearbox) hardly using the brakes. A 7% grade on the interstate at 60-65 mph in third gear requires no brakes at all because of wind resistance. 2ND THIS ^^^ Get your brakes set properly and use your trans on down hills and you shouldn't have any problems. Jay D.

RE: Sway Control options - help please

How about this one? I don't have sway problems but I did install one of these, for the price why not. I did tighten it up coming across the desert in east Oregon with about a 30-40mph side wind. I think it helped a little, again I don't have much problem. just a side note I have a friend one of those that thinks if a little is ok then a lot is better. anyway I ask him how tight he sets his. he said you just have to play with it. he then said he tightened it real tight the first time and he couldn't turn the tow vehicle. RE: Built in vs. Stand-alone GPS?

my T/V didn't come with navigation but your phone will work, but after a trip to Alaska and using the phone we were lost all the time. I finally bought a Kenwood indash navigation unit and really like it it does everything. Jay D.

RE: Propane Question

I would think your heater is not going to run continually. it should heat up then shut down then when temps drop inside it will come back on. like on for 5 min. then off for 5min. depends on how well your insulated. Jay D.

RE: Large dog

we travel with a 45# Boxer that loves people. she's very comfortable to leave in the trailer for around 6 hours. I don't like to leave her longer but I don't think she would mind. she will stretch out on the bed and sleep all day. the one important thing is they must mind and do what you tell them. I will sometimes have her out off the leash when i'm hooking up and tell her to set. I will walk around the camper raising the stabilizers and picking up things. if i'm at the rear putting away the hose and electrical cord I will call her back and have her set ( she likes to watch me)she will never move if I tell her to set and stay. we have never been to a camp ground that we couldn't have her. we have a lot of fun with her and she likes to go. RE: I take back all the good stuff I've said about Les Schwabs!

I went to LS once. Got two new tires on a truck. They "recommended" brake work (I'm female and I knew I didn't need brake work). Sold the truck the next day. Guy went to switch new tires to the front (old school) and the bolts broke. I went in to LS the next week with the broken bolts and repair bill. They accused me of lying and trying to rip them off. Insisted I bring the truck in for an inspection - um I don't own it anymore... It was a bill for about $12. When I called corporate, the "customer service" executive answered my call with "yeah, I know all about you. I'm not doing anything for you." In all my years, I have never been so badly treated right out the gate by any business. For years I went to Winston tires and they would bend over backwards doing right for me. They never tried to upsell me, they stood behind their work, and they always treated me like they would any male customer. Now I go to Americas Tire for tires and my independent mechanic shop for brakes, etc. Both have always been great and have never treated me like some sort of thief. And neither has ever tried to upsell me. I took my clipper in to Americas tire for a tire inspection and they happily installed cat eyes on the rear duallies for me at no extra charge (I had not bought the tires or the cat eyes from them). Just the other day, I ordered new tires for the trailer. When I got home, I realized they ordered load C tires instead of load D. I went back in and five minutes later had the correct tires ordered with nothing but "oh, let's fix that". sounds like the guy that broke the bolts off (he's the one that broke them) didn't know what he was doing. its not L/S FALT probably had a hi powered impact gun set to high. RE: I take back all the good stuff I've said about Les Schwabs!

I have a couple family members that no matter how many issues they have they still keep going back to LS. They always say no matter how many issues “they took care of me”. Yep great SERVICE, how bout great service with quality parts and labor without all the issues. I have driven around two million miles, NEVER have I lost a tire weight. I guess your just lucky, I believe my weights were the stick on type and I suppose one could have come off. it really makes no difference what I got was excilent service. they didn't try and short cut the job by doing one wheel they did all four just to make sure it was good. and there was NO charge. RE: I take back all the good stuff I've said about Les Schwabs!

Manager got red faced pizzed with me when I would not accept the repair for free. I bet LS was glad that you no longer do business with them. Fixing stuff for free is generally considered a "good thing". Guess you don’t understand my point. Simply put I don’t take advantage of people. Oh I got your point with your first anti LS post - the other 13 were just exclamation points. Yeah we get it - you don't like LS. I have been doing business with LS for around 20 years - they don't do everything perfect but every time I have had a complaint I have had a reasonable conversation with the manager and he has made a reasonable accommodation which has always resulted in fixing the problem and often a reduction in price acknowledging their mistake. Can't say the same about any of their competitors. 2x, I've been a customer for over 50 years. I don't have service work done there (I do it myself). but I do by tires and recently bought 4 shocks ive never had a problem. the one thing I really like is there is a L/S store in almost every city on the pacific north west if you have a problem its fixed at any store. we were on the freeway and had a vibration about 55-60 mph. there was a L/S store just off the road so I pulled in they looked real busy told the counter guy I think my right front tire is out of balance. he showed us the lounge room and said they would look at it . in less than 20min. the car was done and waiting no charge he said they rebalanced all for wheels and that it looked like I had lost a weight. one thing for sure that's where I buy my tires they my not be the cheapest but you can't beat the service. Jay D.

RE: Trouble with California

I cross periodically at the north end on 101. unless things have changed, most of the time you can pass right through, the place isn't even open most of the time. and yes there is a huge difference going into Canada. if they decide to search they search everything. we crossed last summer going to Alaska they asked a lot of questions, he was very nice about it. we had prescription drugs and I wasn't sure how to answer his question about them. anyway he said I did just fine. I asked about the dog and her papers that cost almost 100.00 he said I can see she is healthy have a good time in Canada he said. there was no one behind us at the time and I asked him how they determine there searches he said random and your reply's to questions and a lot of other things. these people are well trained on reading people.

RE: Trouble with California

I didn't read all the post. but I would like to be right behind the O/P when he interred the Canadian border and told them they need a search warrant. might be comical to watch.i've been there, didn't get searched but have several friends that have and they said it wasn't fun. Jay D.

RE: New AC problem

I'm by far no A/C expert, but when I installed my soft start kit the instructions said that cycling the A/C on and off was very hard on the unit. something about head pressure needs to have time to normalize or something. Jay D.

RE: Buckling bronco!

the trouble with most tow vehicles is that they are designed to provide a somewhat smooth non harsh ride when empty. so the designe of the springs allow for the first couple inches to be rather soft to do this. now when Joe camper hooks up his RV and jacks the W/D bars up so everything is setting level like its suppose to. he is now setting on that soft part of the suspension spring. this allows easy up and down movement to get started. when I installed air bags on the rear it greatly reduced this problem and when not towing I let the air out for my smooth ride. Jay D.

RE: Buckling bronco!

I tow with a 1/2 ton and didn't like the bucking or porpising what I did was to install some GOOD shocks on my tow vehicle. then I put some air bag on my rear axel and pump them to about 15-20# just enough to start lifting the truck. i then added shocks to my T/T as we were headed to Alaska. all this plus paying attention to how I load everything and my W/D adjustment made a BIG difference. Jay D.

RE: Dog Attack

my dog is my best friend and I look out for her all the time. but i'm going to tell you pit bulls are dangerous. I don't care what statistics you want to pull up they are still a more aggressive breed that other dogs. I live in a smaller costal town and we have a homeless problem, and lot of the homeless have pit bulls. one got away from its owner and attack a woman walking two dogs, it killed the two mid sized dogs in less than a minute. this happened right outside my work place. I got the woman back out of the way and the dog was going nuts. luckily there was a police officer near by and he destroyed the dog. i could go on for pages about this just in my area not to mention all the news stories you here or don't here. you sure don't here about any of grandmas Shazitsus killing anything. Jay D.
