RE: ? for F 250 owners - options mods etc on custom ordered 2019

The biggest difference is that sticker that says 11000 GVW on the F350 rather than the 10000 on the F250. I've got an F250 with a Lance 825 and I'm a bit over the 10k GVW. Add some water, bicycles, a trailer and its over even more. BG

RE: Considering moving from Diesel to me out of it?

For me trying to compare/choose between Diesel and Gas is really a difficult thing to do, now if you wanted a suggestion between say a ford/chevy dodge all with diesels, then it becomes easier. If you buy a diesel you want your truck to preform in a certain way, and of course you have to pay for that, its the cost of doing business. I dont think you will get too many arguments about a diesel being more expensive in almost every way. You are paying more for it because you WANT higher torque, better fuel mileage, longevity, and you want your truck to pull/haul in the best way possible. The bottom line is; what do you want? and how much money do you want to spend? Im not trying to sway you in any way. Thanks NorthShore. I realize that there is reason/emotion in everything. Trying to use logic around this is not working for me. lol. Yes, I LOVE the power of the diesel. Don't like the extra hassle (DEF, Fuel Filters, Water Separators, ReGen every tank) and money. BG

" me out of it?" What would YOUR mother say! Will that do it? LOL, my mother was a product of the depression...WHY DO YOU "NEED" A TRUCK, TAKE THE GREYHOUND AND A TENT. bg

RE: Considering moving from Diesel to me out of it?

Gasoline power adders don't make them in to low-RPM luggers like diesels. All they affect is top end. It wouldn’t matter if that was true or not. Nobody operates any gasoline engine at low RPM at interstate speeds. But, see the following article for one example of increasing both HP and Torque. Hi Jim, Called Banks,,,they don't have anything to improve torque for the 6.2L. :-/ I'm not opposed to a supercharger (again assuming regular gas) to bump up the torque. BG

RE: Considering moving from Diesel to me out of it?

What do you want to hear? The 6.2 is a great engine as-is. Get the 4.something rear axle if you are concerned about torque. As long as your little Lance is all you want to haul... Of course twice the torque makes a difference. Only you can decide how much that means to you. It will rev higher. The 6.2 likes that. This camping season, my real world fuel consumption with a Northstar Arrow in the back was better than 19L/100km or 12.5 mpg. That was going around 55 on the highway (trucks over 3500kg/~7800lbs are limited to 80kph/50mph here). I hear it uses more when you go faster. I can definitely live with 12.5 with the camper in it. I had a larger camper in it before, an Adventurer 89RB, but I was about 1000 over GVWR and only got 12mpg on the highway with it. The Lance gets me about 13.5-14. Have you done any modifications to your 6.2L? BG

RE: Considering moving from Diesel to me out of it?

Best to compare cost per mile instead of MPG. Then you can compare apples to apples, except maintenance costs. Diesel fuel stinks, isn’t available everywhere, and costs a lot more in initial cost and maintenance. ‘Nuff said for me. Excellent idea. I'll crunch the numbers out to 100,000 miles and see which one comes out on top. The diesel also weighs more and costs more initially ($8k...CHA CHING!)

RE: Considering moving from Diesel to me out of it?

I won't talk you out of it. The power of a diesel is nice, but in my situation if could do it over i would have opted for gasoline. The EU3000 is a pretty big generator, where do you store it on your camper?

Considering moving from Diesel to me out of it?

Greetings, After a recent 9000+ mile trip from California to Halifax, Nova Scotia and back, I've gotten pretty fed up with the excessive price of diesel. On average it was 10-15 cents more per gallon across the country. Add to that the added expense of DEF at $13 per 5k miles, and the extra cost for oil changes and maintenance and the $$ start adding up. Add on to that the restrictive performance mods for a diesel here in California and you really cannot do any upgrades to the engine. So my questions to this august body of knowledge is... What will I lose (apart from MPG) going from diesel to gas? Will I miss the torque when my Lance 825 is on the back? HP numbers are not tremendously different, but at 800ft lbs of torque for my 2013 6.7L diesel and only 430ft lbs for the Gas, I'm wondering if there would be a noticeable loss. Can a 6.2L be reasonably upgraded to improve the torque? I know that I'm going from about 14mpg with the camper in the diesel down to around 9mpg with the camper for the gas engine. Unloaded there is about a 2mpg difference. So, the challenge is posted...please let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks. BG

RE: Truck Camper Trip Reports – V3.0

Took a nice trip in May-June 2018 from California to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Took 6 weeks and visited friends and relatives along the way. Here are some quick pictures. I learned several things along the way... - I can do better in MPG without Cruise Control (Avg 13.7mpg) - Most expensive diesel was $4.35 (didn't buy it). - Least expensive diesel was $2.35 in Alabama. - Do NOT lubricate the bearings on a trailer too frequently. :-/ - The BEST campgrounds are remote and labled as "campground/camping" - The WORST campgrounds are labeled as "RV Park." Too many perms. - The BEST highway conditions are in Nebraska - The WORST highway conditions are in Michigan - The BEST food was in Wisconsin - The WORST food was in Virginia. - Hardest rain was in Pennsylvania. - Hottest day was in Nevada. (122) - Coldest day was in Maine. (34) Here is a video of the SS Badger departing from Ludington Michigan on its way across Lake Michigan to Manitowoc. Its the last of the coal fired ferries. Day of departure Boone RV Park, Lampasas, TX Great stop! Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. About 2 hours south of Halifax Just after crossing Mackinac Bridge (Big Mac) Bad trailer bearing only 300 miles from home. Total miles 8678 Total Fuel 635 gals Total DEF 10 gals

RE: SoCal to Homer, AK trip in the planning

What month? Alaska trip is our bucket list from Vegas and next year it might actually happen. You would not mind fellow campers to follow you, would you? My only dilema is visit to my friends in Victoria, but the ferries are darn expensive. Kayteg, drop me a Private Message. BG

SoCal to Homer, AK trip in the planning

Hey folks, Planning on a trip up to Homer, Alaska from Southern California via Calgary. I went from SoCal to Halifax (and back) this past summer. Some quick questions: - Are there improved campgrounds along the route or best to boondock? - Best mosquito strategy. - Any "must see" stops along the route? - What's the longest distance between diesel fuel stops? - I'm ok eating at restaurants along the way, but want to also make sure that we cook onboard to maximize the use of the camper. Any links to stories are always helpful. Anyone else going? :-D Planning on 1-30 June. BG

RE: 2017-2018 Lance Bed Plug Location

I just got an extension and run it to the trailer connection. Prior to loading I can lift the extension out of the bed of the truck after lining the truck up under the camper so as to not pinch it. Have about 20,000 miles that way so far. I did pull a motorcycle trailer with the camper on and since Ford thoughtfully put both the 4 pin square and the round 7 pin next to each other, it worked out great! If I get a bigger trailer with brakes, then I'll have to get the "Y" connector. Bruce
