RE: Generator and an EMS

rvnutts, go here. I too just added a Predator genny to our fiver, fired it up with EMS, Progressive, turned on. No power. This fixed the situation quickly.

RE: Forest Service Campground - First Come, First Serve & hosts

monkey44, we do the FS camps also. Love the first come, first serve. We might take 2 days, then re-up for more days, can't do that with reservations. Or smoke and fire get bad, we can bail, not lose money. Another thing is that a lot of FS camps is there is no wifi or internet available. So that means the host must travel somewhere to pick up the reservations or someone must deliver the info to the host. We have been in a couple FS camps that had that very problem. A real cluster. Use the KISS theory. And be flexible.

RE: Las Vegas

JCK, glad it worked out for you. Sin City is setting records. We are down in Yuma, AZ. and it could set records here too. Have safe travels.

You may want to read this current posting on the Escapee's forum. Don't know if it will help but there is excellent info.

RE: Norcold refrigerator trouble

Make sure your coils didn't go belly up. Check to see if you have yellow egg yoke looking stuff running down the coils and a terrible ammonia smell.

RE: 93 North out of Vegas

Also, the two stations in Alamo always are cheaper for diesel than in the Vegas area.

RE: Forest Service Campground - First Come, First Serve & hosts

Pitch and Profdant both bring up excellent situations. Pitch, don't feel "but" or "bad". I absolutely hate when double dipping happens on campsites. The All American Greed Factor. We always try to put the tag etc. in a baggie just in case. Also, we don't have the problem because our fiver is sitting in the site, but always recommend to tent campers, van dwellers etc. always let something sit on the site and make sure your occupancy tag is where it is supposed to be.

RE: Forest Service Campground - First Come, First Serve & hosts

We ran into a similar situation several years ago at Swan Lake, MT. FS CG. There was a 14 day limit and we always pay several days then renew since there is no refund. Well about the 3rd day there we were told that the next day it was going to be reserved and we would have go bye, byes. Not so fast my friend. There were 11 such sites and they were going to take them all. I left several of the affected people in some of those sites know what was going on. The guy across from me was semi-local and always paid the same way we do. He quickly went down and paid his days left into the Iron Ranger. He wanted to see what they were going to do about refunds. We decided to wait until the next day when they took our tag off and replaced it with a reserve tag. About noon the following day the host went around re-tagging 11 sites. After we ate lunch, we jumped in the truck and drove into the Big Fork, MT. Forest Service office. Two gals behind the counter in their best FS PR asked how we were doing. By the way everybody in that office was great! I said " we would be better if we weren't getting evicted from Swan Lake CG". With that statement they became all ears and sort of looked at one another. About that time a lady back in an office came out and said "what did I hear you say"? She asked if one of us would come back to her office, that she was going to call the concessionaire over in West Yellowstone, MT. My wife went back and talked to the concessionaire. It got a little loud and when the concessionaire said "this is the only FS CG that had first come, first serve sites" Wife immediately told here that approx. 5 miles from West Yellowstone was a total first come first serve CG that she just happen to concessionaire also . Then the back pedaling started. Concessionaire said there was nothing could be done about the situation and wife told her this wasn't the end. The gals in the office then told us there had been several other incidents regarding that concessionaire who we were familiar with. That outfit had just gotten the contract for the area FS CGs. So as we were driving back to Swan Lake just before cell service goes kaput the phone rings with a 406 area code. (MT.) I pulled off quickly, wife answered and imagine this, it was the concessionaire at West Yellowstone. "You may stay your entire time". So about an hour after we get back to Swan Lake, the host came by and pulled off all 11 tags. It wasn't the host's, it was the concessionaire trying to pull something. At the time, that outfit had CGs and trailheads from West Yellowstone to Bozeman and another bit out of Bozeman. The contract for the Swan Lake area and on up towards Eureka had come up because the previous guy retired and they got the winning bid. About a month later we were in Libby, MT. and the cell rings, again a 406 area code. It was the Billings FS. office that wanted to know what went down at Swan Lake, so the word got passed on somehow.

RE: 93 North out of Vegas

We use this route twice a year with a dually crew cab and 40 foot fiver. Great road. But do use the Rt. 318 cut-off. It will not only save you 40 miles but several pulls on US. 93. When coming into Ely there is an Indian Truck Stop to the right when you get to the traffic light at Rt 6 and US 93. About a mile from traffic light and on left side of road. They have put in several sites by the gas station or if you want, they let you park overnight at the back of the parking lot. Quiet and a beautiful starry sky.

RE: Best/Favorite RV Resort

"RV Resort Park" means different things to different people. But keep in mind, the meaning varies between park owners. Some owners seem to think they have a "Taj Mahal" and it is no more than a regular RV Park. Don't trust their internet info as many never resemble what you read or saw on an advertisement. I'm betting with in the first year of full timing you will start to ignore "RV Resort" signage. We have been full timing for 17 years and have yet to stay at a "Resort". The sign might have said "RV Resort" but only in the owners mind.

RE: E or F rated tires

I have run Michelin XPS Ribs since 2007 on our triple axle fiver fulltiming. E load range, they are pricey, but have given excellent service. Michelin or Saliums would be my tire choice.

RE: Helio Castroneves and Roger Penske

What a race! No stages, which is just a manufactured caution, and like the late great Benny Parsons commented, "cautions breed cautions". And best of all "no green, white, checker" fiasco. The facility was always sharp, but the overall appearance, sharper lines, manicured areas, and had enough sense to let urinal troughs be, love it. A fan being interviewed after said "the soul is back". Oh so true. While talking to a friend this AM in the southern Virginia area, he too saw that same fan, and then offered "something NASCAR lost and it will never return". But the class of the Penske organization, the "Captain" Tim Cindric his old boss was to be admired. Hats off to Meyer-Shank Racing!

RE: Dick Trickle Memorial, Rudolph, WI

Mel, thanks for posting this. I had the good fortune of working with Dick while he was at Cale Yarborough Motorsports in the #66 Trop Artic car. Great guy to work with and KNEW race cars. I always thought if he had left the ASA circuit early on, he could have been one heck of a NASCAR driver. One of those years at Christmas time, a package arrived at our house in Penna. It was a Christmas present from Darlene and Dick. Thanks for doing all that you guys do!

2oldman, try to clean the tracks that they slid in, then spray with heavy duty silicon and work back and forth.

It is a pretty ride. Several campgrounds along the way. Did you ever go to the Seekonk race track?
