RE: Nascar Follies

I would have liked to see Kenseth win Indy. Other than Joey everybody always liked him. I didn't realize that Indy was the only major he never won. It's interesting to watch which teams unload better than the others. Without the testing and qualifying is making a big difference, it really brings out the talent of the crew chiefs.

RE: Check your bolts!!

As the newest Excursion is 15 years old and you live in Miami I would suspect rust in that area. That could cause you thinking you were tightening the hardware when really you were crushing the mounting area.

RE: Seen It Before

A new neighbor built a house behind us. The husband is putting out corn and the wife is shooing them off by rapping on the window. They have learned to go over to visit early before she gets up. I'm OK with it as long as they stay away from Sweet Thing's plants. They are fun to watch.

RE: 5.9 Cummins Diesel Towing capacity

Surprised me too. The old 5er was a Jayco 3 slide with a rear bunk to counter balance the pin weight, a side kitchen over the wheels, and a big slide in the bunk room. 38 feet long. The newer 5er is a Blue Ridge rear lounge 3 slide 35 feet long. The overhang is heavier due to the king bed, and the entire kitchen is forward of the axles. Granite counters and a center island don't help. This puts the rear axle weight and the payload over the load rating and we left some things at home as it was only a 5 night trip. Tire ratings are OK, the front axle weight is well below spec, and towing capacity is ok. I'd just as soon not tempt fate.

RE: 5.9 Cummins Diesel Towing capacity

Without actual weights this is all conjecture. Our last 5er was so far within specs it was redic. Our newer 5er is a different floor plan and has me looking for a truck. Both 5ers were 14k GVWR. Rear axle weights were CAT scaled 1000 lbs different but neither 5er came within 1000 lbs of that 14000 GVWR. Oddly the front axle weights were exactly the same when the newer 5er was scaled with the truck and then just the truck. I thought that was odd.

RE: Cherrystone RV in VA Area

The restaurant and the fishing pier on the bridge tunnel have been done away with as the owners (not the state of VA) build 2 new tunnels to make the trip safer. Don't forget to wander thru the town of Cape Charles while you are there. Say hi to the dog at the ice cream place. There is a refuge south of Cherry Stone but still on the eastern shore that still has the big guns mounted from WWII. They were installed to protect the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and had a matching battery at Fort Story on the Va Beach side. John McCain ditched a plane in the bay between the 2 during his Navy days the story goes.

RE: Conversation with Goodyear about Marathon tires

This unit was a trade in at a dealer so I didn't have have the experience of talking with the original owner and judging his maintenance experience. Also, when we first looked at it the spare was in the left rear position and the fancy wheel and tire that used to live there was in the under storage and blown apart. Blown apart was putting it mildly. It didn't throw the tread, it exploded across the tread all the way around the tire but was still attached at the bead. I've never seen that before. I should have looked at that tire better but the dealer had replaced it with the single Endurance when we went back to negotiate. The plastic/cloth was gone above that position but spray undercoat and a piece of coroplast took care of that minor issue. The spare in the storage area was very under inflated so I am doubting how often the other tires were checked and maybe they learned their lesson when they had to replace them when the unit was only 3 years old. I'll feel better with new tires. Somebody out here in east booney NC will buy the Marathons for a trailer.

RE: Nascar Follies

Each one of the owners mentioned had a love for racing before it became a business. They never dreamed that it would become what is is today. It will be interesting to see the new NASCAR when shareholders run the teams. I can only imagine what the real estate will bring in Daytona, Charlotte, Richmond, and the California tracks etc.

Conversation with Goodyear about Marathon tires

Our recent to us 5er has 1 Endurance and 3 Marathons mounted. I am well aware of the issues with Marathons and they will be replaced shortly. 2 of them are early 2016 and the other is late 2015 manufacture. I don't know if they were intended to be an "upgrade" at some point. The unit is a 2014 so not original. It's a FR product, I can't imagine that they used them as OEM but maybe. I went out yesterday to get the DOTs and went on GY's website to see about any possible assistance. Their own website stated that the DOT numbers were not recognized as Goodyear products. I thought that was funny, so I called. No luck on the assistance, imagine that. I never stated that I had bought them nor was it asked. Another weird thing was that in several places max pressure is listed as 65 psi when the tires themselves clearly state 80 psi. I wonder how many blowouts that caused when someone let it get any lower than that.

Is there enough water for the GD and the hot tub? Priorities man, priorities. :R

RE: First tow with new 2019 Ram 3500 and ...disappointed.

The specs on that unit show a 2200 lb pin weight. That should be plenty. I'm thinking nose high.

RE: Is camping Fun Anymore

We were at Myrtle Beach State Park this month for 5 nights. It may as well been spring break. Golf carts round and round, Segways almost running over the dog, people right on top of each other on the beach, just on and on. Everybody has cabin fever, and everybody is buying a RV. In exchange for the show, I'm happy to help if asked.

RE: How to price a used fifth wheel.

How could all of that happen since 2011? Just give it to him, but haul it wherever he wants it or it will sit at your house forever.

RE: Is anyone towing with a Chevy/GMC 1/2 ton 3.0L Diesel?

The first of the coveted 7.3 powerstrokes where 250hp and 500ft lbs through a 4 speed auto. 24V Cummins was 235hp and 420ft lbs with a 4 speed auto. 12V Cummins had even less power. 3.0 Duramax is 277hp and 460ft lbs with a 10 speed auto. I think it will do just fine. The chassis may not be a replacement for a 3/4-1ton, but the engine will do the job. Beat me to it. The BabyMax engine should be far lighter as well.

RE: Nascar Follies

And probably 450 of them not working, and 49 of them with a grainy video, and the other 1 pointed the wrong way. Looks like enough of them were working to figure out that that thing had been there at least since Oct 2019. I love overtime finishes when they make the white flag under green. It is ON from that point. No big one though.

RE: Frozen Dump Valves

Cut a flap but make sure you make the "hinge" towards the front of the unit. When was the last time that rear set of tanks was used? Maybe spray some penetrate where the cable attaches to the valve and the handle and let it sit.

Fridge sounded like it was blowing up

We got home from a trip yesterday evening with temps on the 90s and full sun on the fridge side all the way. While unloading the camper I heard a noise like the fridge was in final launch count down. Now I know why some fridges have 2 access panels. There is a cheap cooling fan in the upper one as there can't be a vent when the fridge is on the slide. Just got this 1/1/2020 after retiring our older 5er and FL this past winter wasn't hot enough to trigger it. Anyway, there are cheap dual fan set ups available online that will cure the racket. I'm glad it didn't set off while we were sleeping one night. Easy fix if it happens to you.

RE: name of a valve I need to replace

The factory ones are really a cheap product very prone to freeze leaks and breakage when installing a new one. Find a 1/2 barb 3 way valve made out of brass, you'll be better off. If you want the factory one see the link below. valve

I think a go fund me page is the safest bet. You don't want some stranger snoring all night or worse yet waking up dead in a ditch.

I guess the idiot in Talledega doesn't know about the 500 cameras in the garage area. They are there to keep cheaters under control.
