RE: Towing a 42 footer… What do you think?

Several feet of a 42 5er will be over the bed and will be deducted from overall length when towing. 65 is easily attained. I'm sure it's happened but I have no first hand knowledge of any LEO stopping a RVer and pulling out the tape.

RE: Help! A/C only works when below 100°

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's rare anymore that someone comes on here with a well explained specific issue that gives the brains on that particular subject enough data to help. Then the OP has the ability and the tools needed to follow the advice to a probable good result. Rare indeed and kudos to all involved to this point. That's how this forum used to be.

RE: Late Snowbirding/ full timing

I think that up until Christmas you might be able to find things in south Florida. After that it is going to be really tough and what you find may scare you. Think Texas.

OP please come back and share the solution.

RE: Florida to Arizona Trip

Since AZ is a big state and the OP didn't name the north Florida town or the AZ destination it's tough to give advice. Fernandina Beach FL to Kingman AZ is 2140 miles. Pensacola FL to Wilcox AZ is 1500 miles.

RE: Shuttle bus conversion

^^^^^^^^^^^^^Awesome "Presuming it’s presentable and the conversion is done legally, with the proper inspections and certification, etc., it would come down to each park owners choice." You're kidding I presume. Certainly not anywhere I've been. Good on Canada if they do it.

Quotes puzzle me.

A new post is added and the first response is a quote of the new post. Anybody else understand this? If so please quote and respond.

RE: Need advise from the Ram Owners

I'm with Dodge Guy on this. I also have extensive background with CDJR(F) dealerships. The newer Cummins isn't the reliability issue, it's all the emission garbage he mentioned. The warranty will cover the cost of repairs but when you are stranded on I10 in the middle of nowhere TX in 100 degree heat with high humidity 2000 miles from where you need to be it doesn't much matter does it? And that's before you find out the part is on backorder with no ETA. That's why I drive old Ram diesels. I didn't look for a 06 or early 07 because of the TIPM issues. My 05 will last until I'm not towing anymore. I should have kept my first year 24V with the Banks kit. The 75 decibels in the cab under load was the reason I sold it. If that is your opinion tHat doesn't speak well for Ram in general. You are giving validity to Devo's claim that Ram's are junk. I have a 2019 Duramax with 70K on it. No issues so far, certainly never been stranded. Is Ram building such a poor product that the mechanics don't recommend them? Our comments were about the emission systems, not Ram. We never saw the diesels in the shop before the emission stuff started piling on. All the manufacturers face the same problem, the OP was discussing Ram, hence our replies.

RE: Replacing front landing gear box and motor.

I'm thinking I'd move the rig to a level parking lot somewhere before tempting gravity.

RE: Brown stuff in compartment in new trailer

Probably leftover nuclear waste. Just clean it up and throw it over the neighbors fence. Wear gloves.

RE: After towing RV with bad batteries, truck blinkers...

Sometimes the clutch in my brain slips before engaging. Maybe the delay mentioned in the fault is due to a bad relay. Often there are several relays in the box with the same part number. Swap the headlight relay with another one of the same part number and see what happens.

RE: After towing RV with bad batteries, truck blinkers...

Try this to isolate the affected circuit. Start pulling fuses one by one for the lights involved. Put the fuse back you just pulled before pulling the next one. Hopefully that will give you a glue. Also since you are in PA where rust is a "thing" a frame harness may have been compromised. That generation Ford had corrosion issues at the top left corner of the windshield allowing leakage down onto the components behind the dash on that left side. That's where the headlight switch is. Ohm your switch or try a new one. Maybe you have a pal that would let you try his switch. You don't have to pull yours, just pull the connector down to plug into the test unit. Do the 4 ways work correctly? Do you have a trailer connecter in the bed? Something is back feeding either due to a bad or missing ground or a bad switch somewhere but the delay puzzles me. I hate these type of problems and a lot of techs just throw parts at them and hope they get lucky.

RE: After towing RV with bad batteries, truck blinkers...

Unplug the brake controller and see what you have then. I've had that issue. I forget the brand but they sent me a new one overnight at no charge.

Interesting dog names

I saw the best name for a dog in another section on here. It was a long hair mini Dachshund named Zamboni. We had a long coat Chihuahua that I got to name for a change. He was Chimichanga, Chimi for short.

RE: S.E. Pennsylvania to North Myrtle Beach

I'd say stick to your guns on 95 but no way on a weekend. The beach traffic on US 13 to the CBBT will all be east west with the exception of the Outer Banks traffic that will disappear in Chesapeake VA. Your early start time should beat that rush. The new Royal Farms station with diesel truck lanes is 3 miles north of the CBBT and there is a lobster roll food truck next door on weekends. We lived on the Eastern Shore for 20 years and the key to 13 is just hang back and take it easy. They have improved the light timing somewhat over the years but it can get frustrating at times. You are going to have a long day whichever route you choose. The lack of law enforcement since covid has turned 95 into a very dangerous race track with massive accidents every weekend causing very long delays thru NC If you end up on 95 for part of the trip run Wase for slow down alerts and be aware of where you can jump over to 301 thru NC.

RE: Transitioning Class A to Super duty truck and Fifth Wheel

An honest assessment would be easier to get without the reference to the MH. It muddied the water. Good luck with whichever you choose, you have a lot of towing experience so that won't be an issue.

RE: Homemade Tire Scale

This is awesome, the best post of the year. Thanks so much. Our 5er has got to be way heavy on the road side as everything is on that side. I'd like to know just how heavy. This will do it and at a great price.

RE: Nascar Follies

We now have 13 race winners without Hamlin or Harvick. Will we see a race winner get bumped from the championship? Still can happen, wow.
