RE: Ditching Dometic Thermostat?

Its only the touch pad face plate that are defective. Call dometic they will send new faceplate no charge. I had 3 that were that way. How long did you have to wait on hold to speak to someone? My calls to Dometic have been met with hour+ wait times and I end up giving up. It was two years ago. You might hit their website. Might be able to do it all via email. you can check with your RV dealer too. they may just swap the face plates out for you. I found my old posts in another thread with part numbers, and it looks like I contacted them via their webpage and never had to talk to anyone. Here is link to that thread if you are interested. https://www.mygrandrv.com/forum/showthread.php/15174-dometic-thermostat

RE: Ditching Dometic Thermostat?

Can I swap out my POS Dometic Thermostat with a simple household thermostat? These thermostats are fine. I have the same ones, and had the same problems and frustrations as you. The problem I suspect with yours is that they had a bad batch of the touch screens causing the erratic behavior. Call Dometic customer service, describe the problem, and they will send you replacement face plates for free. Since I have done that, the problem has completely gone away.

RE: Frozen Dump Valves

Its most likely the cables are frozen. Had you previously lubed them with something like WD40? The problem (happened to me) is that petroleum based lube in those plastic cable sheaths, causes the plastic to soften and glue itself to the cables. I had dealer fix twice. After the third time, i ripped the cable pulls out, and installed electric dump valve actuators. Problem free ever since. I highly recommend that modification.

RE: Flag pole buddy

I would never go down the road with it, but you could engineer something to still use that method. just put it up, take it down as needed. I use the flagpole buddy mounts for my cellphone booster donor antenna mounted to a few sections of old flagpole I no longer use. Works great. As a side note, i no longer use flagpolebuddy flagpoles. The fiberglass sections are too weak, as in the pinholes enlarge, etc. I now use flagpole from uncommonflagpoles. Much beefier, mounts with a trailerhitch adapter, or under-the-tire mount, etc.

RE: cold temps/water lines

So having all this free time in the days of social isolation, last Friday I drained all the rv antifreeze out of my lines and flushed them good and got the camper ready for the summer...if we get a camping season. Put water in the fresh tank and ran it into the lines and we even had a meal in the camper last weekend. Anyway, now I see a few days coming up with overnight temps in the 20's and daytime temps in the 30's. Thinking of just draining all the lines and blowing them out with air and emptying the fresh water tank. Or, would just leaving the lines pressurized with the pump on be safe? Suggestions? It's no different than camping late in the fall. I'd drain the fresh water tank, or turn tank heaters on if you have them. Then turn the furnace on about 50 for the overnight.

RE: Bigfoot Hydrolic Jacks - Electrical Connection HELP!

Figured it out and everything works. With the advent of camera's on phones, I tend to take a photo before I start, just in case I have that brain fart moment. Saves me a lot of hassle.

You might contact Lippert and ask?

RE: Washer/Dryer worth it?

We have stackable units. Wont be without. Why waste a couple hours in the laundromat? Like others have said, just throw a load in every few days, go do your thing, come back, throw them in they dryer. Another item i used to consider "unnecessary" is a drawer dishwasher. No longer! That was the best move we made even over the W/D! Both take a bit more time when winterizing, but really its no big deal.

RE: Auto leveling/ strongarms

The only wiggle I get is when someone is at the far rear of the unit, as the furthermost jacks are just behind the wheels, so there is a bit of flex. One more set of jacks at the rear would be nice, but then again these are meant to be mobile :)

RE: Demco Autoslide or B&W Companion Slider

You are comparing two totally different hitches. The Demco is auto slide, and there is nothing to do to engage the slide feature. It is quite heavy, and I use a chain hoist in the fall and spring to lift it in and out of the truck bed. B&W slider is a manual slider. You have to get out, engage the slide mechanism. The problem is that you don't know you need to slide until it is almost too late. If you are set on a slider hitch, get the Demco, or Pull right auto slides. If you dont need a slider, then get the B&W standard hitch. My next truck will be a long bed, and a B&W will go in then, and the Demco will be history.

RE: Demco Autoslide or B&W Companion Slider

I've been running the demco autoslide now for 4 seasons. Works good, no issues.

RE: first time winterizing my 5th wheel

No problem running af into the dishwasher. It's not just the water inlet, it's also the drain pump as well. Start a cycle, let run for 20 secs, cancel which starts drain. All done. Same process with washer, just do both hot and cold sides.

RE: first time winterizing my 5th wheel

I hope someone with a MS gets on here to give you some good info. If you have never winterized, you might consider bringing it in to be done. Reason being, if not done right, and water freezes in the lines, you will be looking at potentially thousands of dollars of damage come spring. That said, You most likely will have to use the onboard water pump to siphon the AF in through all the lines, and out all the fixtures. you don't want to pour AF into the fresh water tank if you can help it. If you have a dishwasher, or clothes washer, builtin ice maker, those all take additional steps to properly winterize. Good luck, and hopefully someone with rig similar to yours will come along and give better information.

RE: Frameless windows question

I happen to like the way they look. My Cardinal is loaded with them. Two have leaked over the years, and both have been fixed. No big deal.

RE: Urgent Need of Advice re Winterizing!

make sure you have enough propane to keep the trailer warm. 4 days of cold like that you will burn a bunch of it!

RE: Fresh Water Tank Drain

i discarded the cap, and put a PVC valve on it. Still have to crawl under, but just a 90-degree turn to drain.

RE: generator stalls when converter tries to charge battery

I have a Honda EU1000 that won't run the on board charger either. With all 120V circuits turned off, the generator overload cuts out immediately when the trailer is plugged in. Not sure what is going on here. The carb has been cleaned & it runs fine. If you have electric water heater, make sure that is off too. On mine that switch is on the WH itself. that element is a 1500 watt, and would for sure kill that EU1000. Otherwise, is your battery dead or heavily discharged? If so the converter will kick on high output to recharge, and could be your issue too.
