RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Great pic and thanks for the image hosting help. Things have been busy with our work and this endless summer is going to be around a while. Last weekend we heated the pool and decided to fight fire with fire! :) This is our 10.5 old shepard Bella, she’s slowing down but still controls her pack of 4 with 3 being rescues ages 1 to 11. https://i.imgur.com/NoHe8xzl.jpg

RE: What meal to cook next

Good subject! We generally eat low sugar/carb as a family and sent a group text this morning about making a traditional turkey dinner with all of the trimmings next week and also a pulled pork getting the thumbs up from everyone. Good rundown on the crockpot pulled pork recipe already shared, bet it’s great. We’ve been crockpot cooking for several years and have everything in the freezer to make a couple good and somewhat keto pot roasts down the road. I’ve smoked pork butts and shoulders a few times plus making them in the crockpot and they were good. One thing I don’t like is dry meat and doesn’t matter what it is. My wife got an Instapot a couple years ago and while it’s not really my thing, actually have never used it myself, she makes the best pulled pork I’ve ever had and only takes around 1.5 hours compared to all day in the smoker or crockpot. I’ll share the recipe once I know what it is but know it’s super easy. Tonight is easy and what we call a fend for yourself night and the kids are making hot ham and cheese sandwiches and my wife and I will have something light when she gets home.

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Wow, Kenny! I’m happy seeing this brother and see Marites too along with several names I remember. Life is good here, we’re still wide open between the kids and work and this virus is concerning and literally on both sides of it. A couple of the elders in the family are in the serious concern category and I’m in the process of launching a floor removal business heavily based on our FL tourism industry including the cruises ships. Tomorrow is always new day though. I couldn’t share a picture tonight until I figure out the host situation again but if you guys want to try and fire it back up I’d be into it. It would be cool seeing Pete too and we haven’t talked in a few years.

RE: Went to the Springfield RV & Camping Show

It makes complete sense to me too, we’re all going through the stages of life and it’s more of a river than a planned destination for most I think, at least for us, situations can change quickly. We went from tents to a pop-up to travel trailers (remember tuning in the Hensley Hitch just right). A couple of years before the 08’ housing/financial crash happened we bought a brand new 40’ four slide 5th wheel with the perfect truck to match planning a 3 month summer vacation with our 3 kids heading west and my work was on cruise control to allow it. Something to really remember. That didn’t work out well not getting to go but looking back some of the best family times we’ve had were camping together. Our oldest DD rowed through high school and her freshman college year with us spending a lot nights in hotel rooms some good some not so good. I can possibly see us buying a small 2 person only Class C sometime in the future but when you run the numbers on cost per year it would buy more nights at 5 star resorts than we would ever have the time to use anyway.

RE: Electronic Device Addiction

Some observations I’ve made and I’m 52 growing up long before cell phones or the internet with a DW48, DD22, DD16, DD15 is it’s the generation before mine that spends the most time on social media forums. An example is my mom and MIL, my wife and I have never had a Facebook account but DD22 does and they both ask us about things she posts and it gets kind of old trying to keep up with that. From my daughter’s mouth asking her opinion before sharing this, live and in person a few minutes ago, she says Facebook is an old bored peoples group, her group is about our pet rescues. Our DD16 does half of her school day in virtual school and can do that on her phone if necessary. My wife and I both have the latest phones and connected watches and we got home today from 3 nights unconnected but really connected. Yes we had a lifeline to the kids 24/7 if needed. :)

RE: Terrifying Blizzard Buries Town , video Time Lapse !

That looks really cold. But imagine what us Floridians are going through when you have to be aware of the iguanas warnings? They can fall from the trees and knock you out cold! :B

RE: Folly of searching for used cargo trailer

Good timing on this. For a new work opportunity I’ve been researching both enclosed and dump trailers extensively to dial in the right solution to handle the need trying to buy used to save cost and that ended in a lot of frustration. Finally found something new I’ve never seen before that should work perfectly and will have to have it built, a 7x16 hybrid with a 6’ front equipment deck and a 10’ dump bed rated with a 14k GVWR. The piece of equipment I’m trying to haul and be the most efficient with is a small (roughly a 2’ x 5’ footprint) battery powered ride on floor scrapper that weighs 2500 pounds. Extreme tongue weight around 3500 pounds but will be pulled with a 2010 Silverado 1 ton dually dump truck so no problem there. Here’s a link to the trailer solution if anyone wants to check it out: https://sleequipment.com/dump-utility-hybrid-trailer-7x16.html Attempted to sell a piece of heavy sports equipment online recently and that ended in frustration with all of the scammers. But will say we’ve found some great deals buying used sports equipment on Craigslist over the years.

It breaks my heart to read what you’re going through right now. On a positive note, my wife and I are stronger because of it. Stay strong brother

RE: Leaking door on house-thoughts?

Since you mentioned a patio my guess is water is dripping off of the eave and splashing on the door getting in where the door meets the jamb seal. Very common to see here on side garage doors that have a concrete door pad and no gutter above and eventually leads to rotting at the base of the door and jambs.

RE: Christmas shopping

Saw something on the news explaining the need for seasonal workers for UPS and how long the season actually lasts. Basically, it explained the different rushes they experience with the first being the Christmas presents bought on Black Friday, the next rush is returning the presents people didn’t want claiming a gift card… then shipping the presents people really wanted/needed using a gift card credit. It was interesting, and in a way glad our kids are old enough now they would prefer gift cards for a place they like along with the smaller special things we enjoy giving each other. It’s also the time of year we use the credit card rewards we’ve earned so the major shopping is pretty easy ordering the gift cards.

RE: Knee Pain

I agree completely about seeing a good orthopedic doctor over trying to self-medicate pain if that’s possible. I’m 52 and have been in the trades my entire life and had elbow tendon surgery last Tuesday with a good outcome thankfully, already back to work taking it easy on the arm and it’s going well. My wife is a nurse and the surgery was expected to take 45 minutes, a little over 2 hours later causing a backlog for everyone after me the doctor gave her the rundown. It finally blew out working out with one of our daughters and he said he could see once in the amount of old damage the MRI didn’t show and if I would have done this 10 years ago the quality of life would have been better being a pain that never really goes away. Ibuprofen has always worked the best for me for pain and haven’t taken them in a couple of days either with a huge cocktail of drugs prescribed including opioids.

RE: Colorado by drone

Watched the video yesterday and sent it to my wife and 3 daughters via a group text with all of them responding and we watched it on the 70” tv last night. Have a feeling the OP cost me money that wasn’t really in our vacation budget... but that's ok! :C :)

RE: Neighborhood bear-UPDATE AT END

We live amongst the black bears here and the key is securing your garbage and any other food source. It’s common to see them regularly and there have been some bites mostly from surprising a mamma with cubs while walking a dog but never remember hearing about a serious life threatening mauling. By all means defend yourself with the best tools you have if backed into a corner but the most effective solution here is just being ‘smarter than the average bear’. They are beautiful creatures and enjoy seeing them. This was on our local news tonight. Black bear in garage

RE: Visa scam

I’m definitely in the camp of keeping your accounts set on the highest alert levels for any transaction. Last month my work card, a Capitol One Spark was hacked and declined twice before I called them. Someone was charging it way out of my norm and they locked it down without an app message, text or email. Was actually impressed with their security measures after we got it figured out, the biggest pain was having to deal with the auto pays I had set once getting a new card.

RE: Disney World (not fort wilderness)

Nice Jebby14! Our kids are a little older now, 14, 15 and 22 and they remember the fun stuff we did when they were 3 years old. The weather should be perfect too, have a safe trip. :):C

RE: Hurricane Dorian

If cost was no concern I would build a square box using the type of concrete pilings that support major overpasses taking into consideration the highest recorded tidal surge doubling that elevation for the first floor of living space. If the budget allowed there is no doubt I could do it without the civil or structural engineers getting involved and survive for months or years self-contained. But what fun would that be when everything else around you gets decimated? Not to mention our budget wouldn’t even come close, nice building fantasy though. :)

RE: portable generator placement

We live roughly 35 miles from Cape Canaveral going through a lot of storms in 40 years. The longest outage was 8 days between 2 different homes and have always used our portable generator on the covered porches close to the house without a problem running 24 hours a day. Thankfully with Dorian we didn’t experience anything strong and didn’t lose power, I did buy a battery powered CO detector just as a precaution for this one though. In covered open air conditions unless a window is open close to the generator or the house is in bad shape I wouldn’t be worried. I would be very worried about one running getting wet though, not to mention trying to refuel it in the open while conditions are still bad. Wishing the best of luck for you and feel bad for the people in the Bahamas. As an active FL general contractor and home inspector it is heartbreaking to see.

Beautiful pictures! Really appreciate the help on how to do this again, the technology changes so fast it seems and all of my pictures are on my phone. Read more on Imgur and choose that option over Photobucket.
