RE: Letting diesel rv sit for 3 months

Everything Wolfe said. And do relax. There are a lot of us in the snowbelt who by necessity have to park their RVs for 6 months or so while that pesky white stuff covers the ground. No harm as long as you do some basics. Mine starts right up every time in the Spring after 15 years of winter naps.

RE: RVND 7710 GPS No More Maps

Bud, I do still get the construction updates. However, my map database hasn't updated in a while. It's on version 4151031. Doing a "reset" makes no difference. Here's what I got from Rand... info on the map update and how to get rid of the "out of date" message. *************************************************************** Thank you for taking the time to contact Rand McNally. Unfortunately, we no longer support this unit and no map updates will be provided in the future. Please complete the following steps to resolve the Maps Over a Year Old error on the device. You will need a computer, the device, and a cable with which to connect the device to the computer. If at any point you lose your way, or would like help, please don't hesitate to call us. You will need an internet connection when you call. 1. Plug in the TND device > close the Dock program 2. Open File Manager > TND Device > Navi > Bin 3. Locate the file named "navi.cfg" and right click on the file > Delete 4. Unplug the TND Device and use a paperclip/earring/etc to press the pinhole reset on the back of the unit. 5. Test for the issue after the unit restarts from the reset.

RVND 7710 GPS No More Maps

Well, got a rude surprise today. I have a 7 year old Rand McNally GPS model RVND 7710. Got a popup msg that my maps were out-of-date and realized I hadn't received a new map file in a couple years. I do have the "Lifetime Subscription" for maps that I paid extra for when I purchased the unit. Talking to RM tech support I found the 7710 is no longer supported and there will be NO future map updates for the model. Very irritating. Paid for "Lifetime" and unit is only 7 years old. Can almost see not getting any more OS updates, but how hard could it be to post map updates when (for now) they are still posting them for the later models? Anyways, just FYI and a head's up on both the Rand McNally units and their idea of support.

New RV TV show 11/17/19

Apparently there is a new RV show hitting TV on 11/17. It's called "The RVers" and will be on the Discovery channel at 8am. Made by the same guys who did "The Aviators" show on the same channel. Not a lot of info but it does appear to be much more about living/using/tech/do-it-yourself and not the usual junk about staged tours/purchases. Here's hoping...

I'd suggest you do some more researching. The BAL website (maker of the gadget) shows about 4 models, all of which only discuss mounting under trailers. A thread on the Forest River site discusses the mounts, one mentions it having a 100 lb capacity. Could be that this works fine for trailer-size wheels but might have a problem with our 22.5" heavy boys. You might want to contact the manufacturer directly with some questions before you dive in based on an Ebay listing (which also appears to be overpriced.) BAL web site

RE: Length restricted rv parks

Something I've seen occasionally are parks that have SITES for my 40', but the access lanes aren't designed for it. Most noticeably, those parks where you have the long rows of sites with 180 turns at the end, but trees everywhere. Mostly happens in the state/federal parks or older parks that were designed in the 50s/60s for smaller RVs.

RE: Tow Dolly Weight

The only (1) doc I've ever seen on the topic says figure ROUGHLY 62% of the weight if front-wheel drive, 52% if rear wheel drive. doc Of course, ALL the weight still comes into play when towing. You can't expect that you could tow your 4000 lb car on a 3000 capacity hitch just because only 2400 lb are on the dolly 62%). Sir Isaac Newton still rules... inertia is still there when you try to start/stop. And this ignores the weight of the dolly itself.

RE: Refriderator replacement

If you are looking for a replacement refrigerator, the best place to look is National RV Refrigeration Leon is a young Amish man who works on any RV refrigerator and can fix some and replace others. He knows more about the gas absorption units than anyone. He is as honest as the day is long and will not take advantage of anyone. He will answer questions and sell parts if he has them. You have to leave a message and he will call you back before the day is over. Dale +1 on Leon. Fixed my fridge in a few hours, great guy. Highly recommended.

RE: What Tire Monitoring System to get?

Whatever you choose, get a system where the sensors have user-replaceable batteries. My system is not, and it's a pain to have to send the sensors back and purchase a replacement, discounted or not.

RE: Power Door Awning

Usually when these fail they stay open due to the springs. Staying closed likely means either the release mechanism has jammed or the motor froze. This thread has a good How-To on fixing it... see the last few posts in the thread for details and photos. Clicky
