RE: How much 5th Wheel can I tow with my truck

With 3,000 pounds of cargo carrying capacity left, you're looking at fifth wheels in the range of 12,000 lbs (if 25% pin weight) to 15,000 pounds (if 20% pin weight). The challenge then is looking at the weight carried by the rear axle and making sure there's enough leftover in the GAWR and the tire loading capacity. If you can take the truck loaded up like you would normally travel, it'll tell you real numbers of what's left over from a payload and rear GAWR perspective.

RE: We have to move

From driving around, Tropical Palms in Kissimmee, FL has a bunch of open spaces.

RE: Add steps without mounting box?

TorkLift has replacement steps for the fold-up ones. The Torklift steps I have are more adjustable than the MorRyde/Lippert solid steps. Maybe check them out and see if they're better for you before you go cutting into the body panels to install old-style steps.

RE: Washer/Dryer worth it?

Our DRV came with Whirlpool Apartment size side by sides. The Washer was a Chinese POS. Dumped it after a year and went with the BOSCH 500 series 220V washer. The US Made 220V Whirlpool dryer has been great with full time use for 4.5 years. The BOSCH is VERY nice!!! Did you camper come setup for 220v breakers? Or did you have to modify the electrical system to support it? I'm just curious what it takes.

RE: Break away cable

I connect mine to the rear corner of the truck bed. In 7 years of travel, I did have it accidentally pull once.

RE: Keystone Montana for fulltiming??

I don't have a Keystone. But, last January I chatted with the online customer service about using mobile RV techs vs. taking the rig to a dealer. They said it was dealers or nothing for warranty service. That's a non-starter for me. System: To better serve you, please provide us the Vehicle Identification (VIN) Number. System: Welcome to our live chat! System: I am here to provide live assistance. How may I help you? Me: Hi there. I'm considering a Keystone as an upcoming purchase. I wanted to find out what your warranty process is like if I need a mobile RV tech to come out or if I go to an RV service center? Jeannene: We require all warranty concerns to be addressed at an authorized dealer after reporting any concerns to Keystone. In emergency situations, we can assist you if a mobile technician is needed Me: So I can't start at a local RV service center that I've used before? Jeannene: Onl;y if they are one of our authorized dealers Me: No, they're independent and don't actually sell RVs. I find their scheduling and turnaround time to be much better than most dealers I've worked with (3-4 now). Hmm, ok. Me: Thanks for the information. Jeannene: you're welcome!

RE: Washer/Dryer worth it?

We made it 14 months of fulltiming as a family of 4 before we got a Splendide Combo washer/dryer. I can't believe we waited that long! We run it regularly, even when we don't have sewer. I just make a trip to the dump station after running it. The biggest issue people have is they buy the ventless models. They have very long dry times and clothes often end up wrinkly. And yes, the load sizes are smaller. But we do just fine in our family and we mostly only wear clothing a single time before we wash it. RE: RV campground Ideas

And, don't know if it helps or if you're looking for specific recommendations- I generally use Campendium and RVParkReviews.com for searching out parks near a destination.

RE: RV campground Ideas

For Arches/Canyonland, we stayed at Archview RV Resort and OK RV Resort. Both were full hookups and both were nice. I liked Archview better (better location, could see Arches NP) but liked OK RV Resort's prices better. Otherwise, I'd also consider boondocking nearby.

RE: How to lose an awning

Come on, the suspense is killing me. It's morning, is the awning still there? :) For the folks saying I should have stopped, I would have but we were short on time with dinner reservations and no one was outside. Every other time I've driven past (maybe 2 times), it's been in. The awning has been out and in a few times. My wife said a motorhome had to drive on the grass to the right to get around it.

RE: Is Socializing a Dying Thing in the RV Community?

This is 100% the opposite of our experience. We wave and almost always get waves back. I'm not good at talking to strangers so I won't instigate a discussion unless you have something specific that I have questions about. I'm OK with talking back if someone else talks to me. This describes me exactly. I am not antisocial, I am just not good at making conversation. I also have ZERO ability to end a conversation. ependydad, wow, that was you! I thought I was never going to get away from that urinal! LOL! Jus Kid'n. :B Some people can talk the horns off a billy goat, I fit kinda in the middle. :p Safe travels, MM. I’m a hugger, too! Makes for interesting pees.

RE: How to lose an awning

YEP..........good way to get it torn up Did you stop and talk with the folks that the awning could be torn/damaged/ripped from their RV or just post here? Be a helpful neighbor and have a talk....they surely do not KNOW that it is an issue (for whatever reason----stupidity/just not thinking etc) We were headed to dinner reservations and no one was outside or I would have stopped to talk to them. I haven’t been outside and/or down that way yet today.

RE: How to lose an awning

Looks like the next guy down is sticking out into the roadway too. That one is a trick of the photo.. that rig is right at the end of the campsite at the road, but they’re within it.

How to lose an awning

This isn't a trick of the photo, this awning is literally over the roadway. I drove under it in just my truck. https://i.imgur.com/ufBxweZ.jpg width=600

RE: Is Socializing a Dying Thing in the RV Community?

Now you get either "that deer in the headlight look" or the facial expression of "what the heck are you waving at me for"? It also carries over to being on the road. This is 100% the opposite of our experience. We wave and almost always get waves back. RE: Full Timing on our own lot - HELP! - Insurance ?

Over on Escapees this company gets a lot of recomendations: Miller's Insurance for full timers. Not sure if you can see this link on Escapees. You should think about joining Escapees especially if you plan to full time I've used and have spoken with the folks at Miller. Very helpful in helping to decide what you need.

RE: Fulltime family of 4: 2019 year in review

Thank you for posting stats on your travel year. Interesting data. Your frugality is impressive! Lifestyle? You are dedicating your life to raising the children and teaching them family values while exploring the country. In contrast, many of today's children spend very little time with their parents and spend more time with school personnel and a variety of sport coaches. I believe your approach is excellent! Thank you for the kind words! Our frugality ended up in a year without a whole lot of travel outside of Florida (except for 2 months), but you make your choices as to what's important at any given time.

RE: Toyhauler weight vs truck capacity

At 16,000 pounds and over 3,000 pounds of pin weight, you're going to have a hell of a time staying at/under the tire loading capacity on the rear tires and may very well be butting up against/over on the rear axle capacity. Based on numbers and ratings, I got a dually for a 15k trailer. And then upgraded that dually to a newer model year for my 22k trailer. There's no way I'd tow a trailer that large with a 3/4 ton truck or even a 1-ton SRW truck. But we all have to make our own decisions.

RE: 2019

“First damage while parking in 8 years of RVing” Still waiting for my first. It will come! Yeah, surprised the heck out of me. Just like kids, the moment I made contact and everyone realized what happens- all those old fogies scattered like Mom was coming!
