RE: Idle Jeep Wrangler while towing?

This is my 2nd Stay-in-Play. Just had the new one installed this summer. Didn’t have a battery issue with the 1st one, so already have a charge line installed. I was concerned maybe the installer made a wiring issue. I’m hoping it was just time for the 4 1/2 year old battery to give out. When I unhooked the toad, it started up and we drove it a couple hundred yards to our site, but it was dead the next morning. So, hopefully, it had received enough charge through the MH before dying overnight. I like the idea of a volt meter that plugs into a 12V outlet in the Jeep. Where do you get those? Ezgoin

Idle Jeep Wrangler while towing?

Morning everyone, I have a question? Is it OK to let a Jeep Wrangler idle while hooked up to MH for towing? The reason I asked is my battery was dead after towing for 2 days. Fuses checked out OK so not sure if issue was new install of Stay-in-Play brake system or if battery was just old (5 yrs old). I had to replace battery and I don’t want to buy another new battery when I drive back 2 days (if the problem is brake controller). So i thought I’d see about idling while at rest stops on the way home as a precaution. Thanks Ezgoin

RE: Check fuse in Ford Power Distribution Box

I’m leaning towards an installer problem. When the brake controller activates while braking, a LED lights up on coach dash, letting me know it’s working, and that indicator light worked flawlessly. If it was only getting power from the toad battery (which was dead), it wouldn’t be working. I’ll give the installer another call tomorrow and see what develops. If his problem, he pays for the new battery!

RE: Check fuse in Ford Power Distribution Box

I have not towed a toad, so pardon my ignorance. But this all seems really strange. 1. Why would the toad's battery be needed for anything and go flat after two days ? 2. The brake controller when towing a trailer does not use the trailer's battery. What is the story with your MH and toad? 3. The trailer's lights get power from the towing vehicle via the 7-pin. Not the same with a MH and toad? So what is the story here? (curious in case I get a toad) Anyway, even if you do find and replace the fuse, and that was the problem, so what? You need to know what blew it. Is your "installer" to be trusted???? BFL13, My ignorance is just as bad, so we don’t need any forgiveness. Your questions pretty much mirror mine. I had to replace my old Stay-in-Play brake controller several months ago, using the same installer as the old one. So what changed? Same brand of controller....same installer, maybe a different employee? The original worked fine.....the new one is causing the problem. Sounds like installer issue. What changed on the MH? Nothing! My problem is I had to replace the depleted battery and now am faced with another 2 day drive going home. What if the new battery dies over 2 days going home? I can’t say I have much trust with the installer after this trip. When I called them and explained what happened, he said check fuses. I, like you, would question IF a fuse blew, what caused it to blow if nothing changed between old unit and new one? Stay tuned. Bill

Check fuse in Ford Power Distribution Box

Hi all, Just drove 2 days from Phoenix to Colorado with new Stay-in-Play break controller and arrived with a dead battery on Jeep Wrangler. Called installer and he said to check 30 amp fuse on coach that feeds power to tow vehicle. Coach is 2014 Ford F53. Manual shows fuse 13 is 30 amp “Trailer Tow Electric Break Controller Feed”, so I assume that’s the one I need to check. It’s under the hood of the coach in the Power Distribution Box which says to disconnect battery cable before removing the cover to expose fuses. I’m not the most tech savvy person around so I don’t feel comfortable trying to open (and not be able to close) the cover. Since Jeep battery was dead I had to replace it because it couldn’t hold A charge after jumping it. Now I am concerned that if I can’t check the fuse i will end up having to replace a new battery if it dies going 2 days back home. Suggestions? Bill

RE: Onan exhaust hangers don’t last

Hangers usually FAIL because they are NOT installed correctly. If, when you install you are putting a load on the hanger, the Rubber will fail. AFTERMARKET Hangers (Auto supply stores) are much better grade. Sometimes, you may need 2 depending on how long the Tail Pipe is. Doug Isn’t the intent of the hangers to support the weight of the genny exhaust? I currently have 2 completely broken, with another one attached near the engine exhaust that is ready to break. Bill

Onan exhaust hangers don’t last

I had to replace the Onan exhaust hangers several years ago when the exhaust dropped off while driving. Now, just 3 years later, 2 of the 3 hangers have broken again. The rubber part of the hanger appears to to just rot away, maybe because of the Arizona heat. The weight of the exhaust pipe also may be a factor in the rubber breaking. Wouldn’t a full metal support strap be better? Are there any available that are compatible with the Onan exhaust? Thanks, Bill

Do you leave MH plugged in for power at home?

Just asking. Is it OK to leave MH plugged in when stored at home? I use a 20 amp outlet and an extension cord, but wondered if it is Ok to leave it for extended periods of time. Thanks, Ezgoin’

RE: North from Colorado to Mt Rushmore

We are actually starting from Arizona, stopping in Colorado Springs before heading farther north. Planning on the trip for early fall. I guess I should have made my route more understandable. Not looking forward to the drive through Denver either.

North from Colorado to Mt Rushmore

Hi everyone, We’re taking I-25 north to Orin, then East on hwy 18 thru Lusk and Edgemont. Then onto 89 and 385 north thru Hill City. I would appreciate any info those highway conditions. Google maps looks pretty good, but some personal info always helps. Thanks to all, Bill
