RE: Driving south and bypass Richmond VA

I have for years taken I-95 straight through Richmond going South. Sometimes taking the 295 by pass. You could continue on I-64 East to I-295 South but 288 is a good route to bypass most of the Richmond-Petersburg grief. I-295 puts you South of all of it.

RE: Thinking of buying a Class A and seeking advice

I started around 1970 with a 18ft trailer and moved up over the years to a 36ft trailer. Then had one of those "B" things a short time then 2 class Cs. Class A, I have never had a gas one but went big and got a 45ft 4 slide Monaco right off the bat. Huge costly mistake, worst was how useless the interior was if slides were not out. Awful. Then got a 40 ft Winnebago Luxor and there was lots we liked about it but it had no slides. I really liked the basement AC. Our current A is a 36ft Monaco with 1 long slide and we really like it. It drives with the agility of a Honda Civic with the power of a Corvette (Big Cummins Motor). My advice would be to avoid the entry level models where everything about them is built cheap from small motors to partical board cabinets for example. I could have bought one of those for 1/2 what the Monaco and Winnebago Luxor cost. Do lots of research, LOTS!

RE: SC to Maine, our first long trip

Kind of depends on how much urban areas you can stand, but, since you are going to Hershey be sure and take that bus tour. Its worth the money and the time. Buy your candy at Wal Mart as its cheaper than at their own factory store.

RE: When to replace the hitch pin?

Not a pin but I once had a ball shear off where the rounded part starts. The lower part was still in place. This happened at 70 mph on I-40 the Friday evening before the 4th of July. Thanks to safety chains and a big enough truck damage was minimal. But what a traffic mess. I guess a pin could fail.

RE: Unsolicited want to buy your RV people

At least they just want your RV. Near here they are building a plant to build electric cars. They just walk up and offer to buy your property and everything on it. Thieves wanting to make a buck.

RE: Best way to market a dinghy tow vehicle

I see them often on Craigs list. In fact I have right now a Smart car that is all set up for flat towing that I found there. I prefer a dolly so have the tow bar etc for sale. Craigs list is good for local sales.

RE: It wouldn't go anymore

All seems good. They rebuilt the alternator and came to my home and installed it. I hooked up all the new batteries and everything seems to be good. Maybe they will post this

RE: VA to pigeon forge

I think after this location I would go 460 to Petersburg, north on I-95 to the bypass around Richmond then take I-64 over to I-81 and head South to exit 407, 66-441 into Pigeon Forge. I think this takes you right to your camp ground

RE: VA to pigeon forge

I go to Pigeon Forge a lot but where is Zuni, VA? 81 sure is no where near Richmond as someone suggests. But if you are going down I-81 just go to exit 407 (66-441) which takes you straight to Pigeon Forge. As far as getting from Zuni, its not even listed on the VA map so I couldn't help.

RE: Old Timer RVing

I am 82+ and still doing it. I also still drive my drag racing car. So far this year been to Bristol, TN, Baltimore area, and up along the Ohio river in WV. We live in central NC and have a DP. When towing the race car trailer we are 72ft long. I do have some arthritis, not bad, but otherwise the VA keeps me going.

RE: Selling an RV/payment

As stated above, whole bunch of "experts" commenting on something they know nothing about. Cash is king and have you not heard of the under ground economy the government is trying to do away with that robs them of taxes and fees. You can use most of the methods mentioned above but cash is good everywhere and when its Sunday, the banks are closed, and a buyer is standing there with cash. I'll take the cash. Someone above said the title had to be notorized, maybe in NC but most states have done away with that nonsense. Don't make it complicated!

RE: Quadrants, rather than one big cross country trip?

When youngest was 12 we left Baltimore with no special plans other than to get away from the Eastern US. Many side trips, Grand Canyon, 2 days skiing at Mt Hood, Yellowstone, etc. All the way to the west coast then went South, saw the BIG trees, LA area, over to AZ, Phoenix, Tucson, Bisbee, Tombstone, Nogales Mexico, Dallas, OK City, St Louis, Then beat feet for home. We were gone 2 1/2 months if not for school would have been gone longer. Lots of things and places not mentioned here but for her it was an adventure of a lifetime in the US. The next trip was straight up I-95 into Canada where we circled around and came back into the US in Michigan. As for the South East, we have wore it out over the years. We have had an RV for around 55 years and we used them all. There is always something up the road to see.

RE: It wouldn't go anymore

OK, Sat evening it was check batteries. The chassis one is about 24in long and 18in wide. It was less than a year old and ok as were both cables hooked to it. There are 3 more big 12 volt batteries hidden below that in a sliding tray. Here was a mess, cables carroded and 2 of the 3 batteries had failed to the point of leaking acid into the tray. What a mess. I removed the batteries and took baking soda to all of that mess in the tray. Used a stainless steal wire brush and cleaned all the cables and connections till they looked new. Last thing I did was paint the tray 2 coats of acid resistant paint. Early Sunday I headed to town, 25 miles, got 3 new batteries came home and installed everything back to the way its supposed to be. This morning they came and removed the alternator and I have yet to hear back from them. More later!
