RE: Help getting fridge to run while underway

Well, I think I'm in the final leg of this issue...I've spoken to Senior Member Jerry Parr, and Richard, a retired mobile RV mechanic, in pursuing why our fridge wouldn't operate correctly. Jerry suggested I call Norcold and run this by them. I did and they said if the red light on the Recall Kit black box was on solid, then that box was probably bad. They said go to Camping World and order a new one for free. I did and now I'm waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, Richard suggested connecting the two 12 volt wires from that box together...basically they way it came from the factory...I did and now the fridge works fine in every situation. I asked the Norcold rep. how long the Recall Kit boxes are good for...she said some last 10 years, and some much less. I think mine had a couple of different phases of failure, as the symptoms changed a bit over time, but I'm a happy camper now that I tracked it down to the Recall Kit.

RE: Help getting fridge to run while underway

Took me a while to get back to the storage yard where we have our RV parked. I've taken pictures of the fridge and some others I hope are helpful...unhappily, I can't figure out how to post them from my files. My thought is this is not a fridge problem, but rather something external to it...the power supply is disrupted to it when I start the drive engine. The code the fridge puts out when I start the drive engine is "no a/c." Why the propane supply would also be disrupted is a mystery. I can do some repairs myself if they're pretty straightforward, so would like to not have to take it back to a repair facility if possible. Thanks, Dan

Help getting fridge to run while underway

Our fridge and freezer run under these conditions: 1) while plugged into shore power, 2) on the inverter...with engine off, and 3) on propane...with engine off. When I start the engine, however, the fridge and freezer do not function. I get an alarm sounding and codes flashing. The code indicated the problem is not something I can resolve, but need to take it to a dealer. Just checking with the community before I go through that hassle...again. Among my frustrations is that I've already taken it to San Diego RV and they told me just to reverse the plugs to the refer and ice maker. They didn't test it or fix it. When I later did that, I got the same results. Any thoughts?

RE: Need recommendation for a replacement inverter

Have the dealer show you how the fridge is connected when you pick it up. This was a helpful tip. When I picked up the rig, I asked how the refrigerator and ice maker were plugged in. He showed me the outside removable vent cover for the refrigerator on the passenger side, and behind it, the two were plugged into different outlets. I said we don't do dry camping, so are not concerned about the refrigerator draining the batteries through the inverter. He said I could simply unplug both and swap their locations and I'd have the refrigerator plugged into the inverter. When I got it home, I did that. Took me 5 minutes. And that's because I work slow. So, thanks again for this suggestion.

RE: Need recommendation for a replacement inverter

While I'd agree with the thought behind that it sure would be easy to take a look and find out. I'm intrigued. "Easy" is a word about which reasonable men may differ. This refrigerator/freezer is recessed into a cubby and, at least at first glance, looks like it would need to be pulled out to see how and what is plugged in. Do you have information that may help me find the "easy" solution?

RE: Need recommendation for a replacement inverter

When you say refrigerator...is that a typical RV refrigerator with gas or electric option or is it a residential refrigerator? What brand/model refrigerator? I just heard back from San Diego RV, and they said the inverter only powers the ice maker, not the refrigerator; and that the refrigerator needs to run on propane. Now, we can do that, but the refrigerator works fine when we're plugged into the RV Park pedestal...and the propane is off. So why wouldn't it work off the inverter? probably not connected to inverter power. The ice maker is an integral part of and located inside one of the two freezer compartments. Hard to imagine it has a separate power cord.

Good call, and I agree. This may be something to do with the refrigerator instead. Hopefully something "simple." Read inexpensive. If there is such a thing in owning a motor home.

RE: Need recommendation for a replacement inverter

It's a typical gas/electric refrigerator...don't remember the brand name and we just dropped it off at San Diego RV for work on a list of things. I was able to confirm the inverter is working by turning on a portable fan that runs on ac. But the refrigerator has an error code that says "no ac." And yet, when we're at an RV park, it runs like a champ on ac. So, still confused about it not running off the inverter.

RE: Need recommendation for a replacement inverter

I'm curious what kind of problem you are seeing. That's a good question...something I've been pondering since you asked it. The problem I'm having is that the refrigerator will not run in inverter mode. Runs fine when we're plugged in, but not otherwise. There are beeps, and codes that I don't fully understand, but the bottom line is it doesn't run the refrigerator. I'm taking the rig in today for work on a list of things that need attention, and this is on that list. I'll report back what they say.

Need recommendation for a replacement inverter

The inverter in my 2002 Monaco Windsor is on the blink and I'm looking to replace it. Does anyone have a recommendation for a supplier of replacement inverters?

RE: Replacement Window Slide Lock

Is that lock held in place with a rivet? On my Monaco I have a broken one and it is riveted in. I'm not looking forward to drilling it out so I've used a piece of wood down in the channel to hold it closed temporarily. That's the one. I have the instruction sheet from the last one I bought and it shows drilling that rivet out and replacing it with a threaded "shoulder screw" and nut to hold the new one in place. That is, If there was a new one...

Replacement Window Slide Lock

One of the locks for a sliding window on our 2002 Monaco Windsor has been broken, and I've not been able to find a replacement. Does anyone know of a supplier for these? There are a short and a long version, and I need the long one. I haven't figured out how to add a picture, so...any help would be appreciated.

RE: Help hooking up power to back up camera

That's possible. Upon examining the back up bulb itself, I did see two different filaments, so I wondered if one of those was for the green wire, but not sure.

RV Campground recommendations for OR coast

We're planning a trip from Eugene, OR down 101 in a few months, and was wondering if any of you had recommendations for RV parks along the way down into CA. We have a 40-foot motor home. Any help would be appreciated.
