RE: Border closure extended

You know the feelings that get ruffled when a US resident is caught bringing guns into Canada? Well..if you are an American that insists that travel into Canada for sightseeing is somehow their right? or...the border doesn't seem closed? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/rcmp-americans-banff-alaska-1.5621452 Gary Haupt

RE: Border closure extended

See'ing that there is some talk now about extending the closure to end of the year. So far...just scuttlebutt, but.... Gary

RE: Border closure extended

We have decided to just travel-in-province. We'll take the month of October and wander BC. I would guess too, that we won't be going south this coming winter. I wonder what Winnipeg is like.in January and February, from the inside of an RV. Lots of tourist highlights I bet, and no crowds. No bugs, either. Gary

RE: Border closure extended

The linked article suggests on May 19 it was extended to June 21. Where is the July 31 part? I don't see it. That is correct, the Canadian Govt will readdress on 21 June, the US Govt will on 22 June (why the day apart I'll never know). I'm stuck up here in Alaska and have been keeping an eye on the reopening date to get into Canada and then back into the US. Have you contacted the border authorities? It is my understanding that you CAN cross into Canada and continue your journey back into the lower 48. They will expect you to make a fairly expeditious transit of BC/Alberta and of course, the US border people will see you in, no problem. Gary Haupt

RE: Canada/US Border still shut...

I have an item bought and paid for in Feb in Saskatchewan. I was supposed to pick it up 2 wks ago. But because of the closing I'm in limbo as too when that can happen If it were a medical item, you could probably talk your way across. Other than that...after June 21st...and then wait in line... RE: Canada/US Border still shut...

Funny, I never would have thought of pepper spray as an offensive weapon. Seems to me that it is for defense only. “Intent” can be a very dangerous notion legally.i only intended to rob him, I did not intend for him to die. Therefore you can’t charge me with murder. As far as the border goes, like you said, it’s your country, your half of the border. I will always defend a country’s sovereignty to do what ever they wish within their borders as long as it doesn’t affect anyone’s basic human rights. If Canada doesn’t want our tourism dollars, so be it. cmarkj... What many fail to note in my post...Canada/US borders closed. Both ways...not just for tourists coming to Canada..but the same type of person isn't entering the US. Gary Haupt

RE: BC Residents only

BC is making it very clear that it is BC residents only in the provincial campgrounds. If a camper were to have non-BC plates, they could/will be refused. https://www.castanet.net/news/BC/300622/Camping-in-BC-provincial-parks-for-BC-residents-only-this-year?fbclid=IwAR3XHCSlA_cguIGZfNwAJRFOrKdLOEFVYS6q8lx7LiC8Z1xyd81My6c5avo#300622 Gary HauptCool Idea. Maybe Arizona could do the same and keep the state campgrounds open only to AZ residents during the snowbird season. I sat on my fingers for 24 hours, wondering if I had the energy to respond to this sort of trash talk. I guess I do.. You have singled out snowbirds, so I will take it personally. Your comment is so typical of the nonsense coming out of some folks mouths. Protectionism, US only...that idea may appeal...right up until it doesn't meet the countries needs, then it's all about 'now what'. Be ever so careful what you wish for..water, oil, foods..oh...airfields to park your aircraft and passengers in the event of another tragic event. I can hear the voices now...'we don't need...'. Oh yeah...you do. By all means..stay out of ours...or be thankful we are good neighbors who are doing what is necessary too look after things. Soon enough, people will be able to cross the border and carry on with their lives. And people like you don't need to travel BC to get north...take the ferry. Gary Haupt

RE: BC Residents only

I've been wondering about this very topic myself, and how things will play out. I have read some conflicting information, depending on the source. A group of us are planning a fishing trip to a lake near Merritt the first weekend in June. Several of us are attending. 2 from Penticton, 1 from OK Falls, 1 from Kelowna, and myself from Alberta.... I'm wondering if I will run into any kind of challenges since i am no longer a BC resident. I used to live in Penticton years ago. Location is a rough, totally unserviced area by a lake, FCFS. Park ranger wanders through and collects a nominal fee based on nights spent. Hope I don't drive all the way from Calgary, only to be turned away.... Could leave the TT home, come out in my car and occupy a spot in a buddy's MH. I prefer my own space though. It's a tough call, if basing it on available info. There is a lot of real estate that is NOT part of the BC Parks system. I am thinking that if your lake is not a reservation type location, that you will be ok. Emotions are running high, right now and you will need to judge the situation accordingly. Check your private messages Gary

RE: Oregon trip

We drove up the entire state on 101 the day they were closing all the parks, view points and state line. Now that was some weird. Left Brookings about 7am and until then, hadn't spent much time with the radio on. We were kind of dumb-founded. As we drove along...no traffic...no people...and we could see the barriers going up, the tape being run from post to post. It was like they were closing the doors, behind us. With zero traffic and cities so quiet, we decided it might be in our best interests to boogie straight thru. We drove over the Astoria Bridge about 7? so..a 12 hour drive..a drive that usually takes us days. We pitched up at the Dismal Nitch rest area for the night and as we drove out at 9am, Washington Highways was closing THAT. Just a really weird drive. In fact..now that I am remembering, we drove thru Seattle that day about 2pm..and never took it out of cruise. Gary Haupt GARY, didn’t see you wave or hear you honk as you passed Beachside SP, just south of Waldport! You didn't? Darn..and I was on the radio yelping for you and everything. Gary

RE: Oregon trip

Just tossing this out...I know it wasn't the question...in your planning, if you go from north to south, you will not regret that. That direction of travel will enable you to leave the highway to oohh and awww and then pull back into traffic withput risking life/limb. Going south to north is just plain dangerous, for the mentioned reasons. Even other RV'rs accelerate to try and get ahead of an RV driver trying to get across two/3/4 lanes of traffic. Gary Haupt
