RE: Stay on your own side....

It's a scary time. I see that Australia is closing off the state of Victoria..6.6 million people, as of midnight Tuesday, using the military. I have friends in the US and I fear for them...for all of you. A vaccination may not be found as early as we'd all like. It matters not what I think about travel across state lines. But...I hope that if you are making a trek, that you do it with extreme caution. No one wants this virus and there have been enough 'Come to Jesus' moments by now, that even the non-believers have to be thinking....'maybe I spoke too soon'. But..people will do what they do. Make sure you have health care before going too far from home. Gary Haupt

RE: Stay on your own side....

Alaska has a 2 week quarantine also. Anyone traveling to Alaska from outside must quarantine for 2 weeks upon arrival. Were they traveling home to Alaska? Probably should have stayed put, or parked and flew home. Sounds like they deserve the fine. Also, very surprised they were let in. I have a fried who was having a truck serviced in BC before the boarders were shut down. When he went to pick it up they would not allow him in to pick it up. He had to pay to have it towed across the boarder so he could take it home. Kinda apples and oranges wit the truck problem. The truck was serviced IN BC, then he wanted to take INTO the US. This is about being IN the US and wanting to enter Canada. There is a cross border agreement...people in Canada can use land travel into the US for essential travel. Same applies for US citizens entering Canada. The essential travel part seems to mostly apply to folks that are going TO home in Alaska..or going FROM Alaska to home in the US. People are arriving at the CDN border crossing claiming to be going TO Alaska...when they aren't. Why on earth someone would do that is beyond me. The odd thing is...a person can fly either way impunity. Gary

RE: BC winter travels...

A winter trip without skiing and farther from your part of BC means you're going east. Wood Buffalo? Or do like we talked about and head to Cape Breton, pretty mild there, relatively speaking If it weren't for the 10 day drive, Cape Breton would be the cats meow. Gary

RE: BC winter travels...

We would spend more time around Muncho Lake, and also your neighbors around Kelowna. Muncho, eh? You did see I was saying winter time. Kelowna is up the road by 45 minutes...nawww...too close. Gary

RE: Longer closure gathering momentum... I am sure you know, but for others...the lock-down that is now lifting in stages has spawned a tidal wave of RV purchases and a drive into the hinterlands. RV sales have skyrocketed...anything that 'appears' to be usable as a camping method...tents, tarps, old anything...huge debt being incurred. Any scrap of ground they can camp on is taken between Vancouver and probably Prince George. If a person has field with a pond? man...they could almost retire. Gary

BC winter travels...

We have been going south the past years. Not the case for this one coming, so am considering/talking about...BC home travels. Rather obviously we won't be away for 3 months straight. A week here...two there...if the weather gets really ugly we are never that far from home. We like wild hot springs. Have been to Lucier, Half-Way..going to Sloquet in September. I don't think we'll do Liard..that's a drive and a half...Any secrets spots you want to share? [email protected] No doubt we'll be in Vancouver a bit. Plague the kids and some friends. If you have some thoughts? Ideas...I don't ski anymore, so that's out. Lots of craft brew places to visit. Purely research, of course. Gary Haupt

RE: Bikes n ladders..

Any plans to relocate the stop, tail, turn signal, and backup lights? From the picture, it looks as though the (very nice) box is pretty effectively blocking them from view from many angles. Yes...they will be installed before delivery. Gary

RE: Bikes n ladders..

Looks nice. Couple of questions/comments: 1-looks expensive 2-weight 3-to me a box like that says something expensive is inside ( to the crooks ) Your bike must be much more valuable than mine. Talked to a guy the other day who is buying a 4500 dollar bike. I would probably lock that one up for sure. Well how does one measure what's expensive? The RV is a THAT's pricey. My camera gear is worth a bunch. With a capitol B. I can't seem to buy a computer under a grand. Our bikes combined are the same price as the box/ladder and spare mount. So..I am good with that. Also..I am many more years am I going to be able to do this? I want to be broke when I die. People steal whatever they are going to steal. If they want into the box...they will. RV's are inviting targets anyway. I don't like it..but,..choices choices..right? Gary

RE: Bikes n ladders..

That's pretty cool looking....light gauge stainless (for the box) or ???? Ladder's pretty neat as well I don't know the gauge...he builds these for RV's so I am going to go with...he builds it for that. Gary

Bikes n ladders..

I have dragged bikes all over...carried on racks hanging from the rear, the front...they get filthy and always worried about thefts. Met a gut in Az this past winter, that lives in Nelson, BC...5 hrs from me...who builds bike boxes and adds on a few touches. The spare will be up in the left corner...] Gary Haupt
