RE: Rest Areas in Az, CA

I don't know about the rest areas along I-10 but the ones in CA along I-40 were open to the public as of 2 weeks ago.

RE: Are the $25K lithium battery systems worth their cost?

How big are these battery packs. Capacity wise and dimension wise. I found this info at a Winnebago Travato dealer. The Travato offers the Volta Pure 3 System. "Under 200 lbs. the three-module automotive-grade energy pack provides 8,700 Whrs. Watertight and durable, the steel housing is the safest in the market. Travato's dedicated 58V alternator is 2x as powerful as competitors. Its compact design keeps it out of the way of curbs and road debris."

Are the $25K lithium battery systems worth their cost?

I noticed several Class B manufacturers are offering as an upgrade lithium battery systems such as Volta and other brands costing in the neighborhood of $25K or more. Based on what I have learned, the coach manufacturers get rid of the generator, add a second alternator to the coach engine, add some solar panels, 2,000 or 3,000 watt inverter and of course the lithium battery pack. If I'm not mistaken, in order to run the AC using the batteries, a 10K or 11K BTU unit is used. Ostensibly, you should be able to run the AC for a few hours before the battery pack is discharged. Taking the high cost under consideration, do any of you see the advantage of ditching the generator and switching to this type of system? From what I gather, if you're stationary and the batteries need to be charged you must run your coach engine 2 to 3 hours to charge the batteries. Personally, I don't see any advantage by doing this. For years, I have managed to dry camp for days using 2 lead-acid batteries, 200 watts or less of solar panels and running the generator about an hour or less every day in the evening.

RE: Dish/Direct TV is going Bye Bye Millions soon to Disconnect

For how long has timmac been telling us about the pending demise of satellite TV? 10 years? As I mentioned before, I don't see satellite TV disappearing any time soon. Funny how timmac only mentions the TV satellite industry but not the cable industry when he says new technologies are going to put them out of business. I'm thinking he must be a disgruntled worker that was fired by one or both of the satellite companies.

RE: Firearms in Calf.

It didn't take very long for this thread to turn into another California bashing by the California haters in this forum. If there is a thread that should be closed for legitimate reasons, this is it. To the OP, ignore the know-nothings that spout nonsense and visit official state websites or contact law enforcement agencies for accurate information.

RE: Thor Axis/Vegas

I looked at them when I was looking to downsize. I think they are decent value if you can live with the mediocre quality.

RE: Question on Sprinter based motorhomes

Winnebago Navion owner here. We downsized to this unit to get rid of the toad. No regrets. Like you, I have seen several Sprinter mohos towing Jeeps but I have no personal experience towing that much weight behind the Sprinter. I occasionally tow about 2,600 pounds and it handles the weight fine. Make no mistake, Sprinter mohos are slugs going up grades with or without a trailer or toad behind. I have the propane genny but I can't tell you with certainty how much propane the genny consumes under load. I can tell you, however, I have never run out of propane. Diesel gennys are a $4,400 option offered by most makers. For me, the additional cost wasn't worth it. To my knowledge, the only maker that offers the diesel genny as a standard feature is Tiffin. It goes without saying the cost of the diesel genny is built into the base price of the unit.

RE: The camping industry is going to be hit hard

Yep, I did say "if." Do you feel lucky? I'm wondering how many members in this thread are willing to take one for the rest of this team. :R

RE: The camping industry is going to be hit hard

Public campgrounds will reopen since they're owned by the govt. As far as I know, private RV parks are open now, where allowed. For sure, the RV industry is going to get hit really hard since the last thing anyone without a job is going to consider buying an RV.

RE: Register M/H in Calif

I would try to keep it registered in Az.--Ca. fees are extremely high as you probably know. Not true. AZ registration fees are almost twice as high as Ca's. I moved from CA to AZ and my vehicle registration fees practically doubled. Really? give examples What examples do you need? Suffice to say my vehicle registrations almost doubled in my vehicles. You can easily confirm it by visiting the CA and AZ DMV websites.

RE: Places near Vegas Or Needles Ca ?

There are some BLM areas around Lake Havasu and Bullhead City in AZ. The Riverside casino in Laughlin is allowing RVers to park in the parking lot even though the casinos are closed. Don't forget this area is going to start getting warm soon and it may be nice to have FHU to run the AC.

RE: AZ Governor Statement on RV Travel during Stay At Home order

The AZ governor has his priorities right. He deemed golf courses as essential businesses and can remain open. :S Actually, he deemed exercise and physical activity as essential. Here's the paragraph from his declaration: "Engaging in outdoor exercise activities, such as walking, hiking, running, biking or golfing, but only if appropriate physical distancing practices are used." I'm not a golfer, but it seems like social distancing would not be difficult to maintain. Sitting next to someone in a rented golf cart and using common area facilities such bathrooms isn't my idea of social distancing. Coincidentally, I just received an email from my local motorsports dealer announcing they are considered an essential business and they are open.

RE: New Mexico State Parks Suspend Overnight Camping

Coincidentally, I started to plan a trip for early April that would have included camping a few nights in campgrounds in western New Mexico. I guess I'll have to stay in RV parks if I proceed with my plans.

RE: Private Seller - Financing

The OP is looking for financing suggestions, not lessons on how to spend his money. It's irritating and condescending when some posters feel the need to chime in just to bash other posters for financing their RV purchases or buying new ones. Without those two options there would be no RV industry as we know it.

RE: Old National Trails Road

...you can drive leisurely.... Speaking of … I'm looking at your maps and am curious how 'tis you made it to Virginia and S.C. but missed N.C.? Teach The map represents more than one trip. I need to update the map to reflect additional states and Canadian provinces. The only states we haven't visited are Iowa, Nebraska and Alaska. I also need to add the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario.
