New TPMS

When I had the trailer tires replaced I had metal valve stems put on and then added 507 TPMS . I noticed on Thursday coming home the tires on the west side of the trailer were running 10 degrees hotter and 2 lbs. higher pressure. Is this normal that the sun side runs a little hotter? Something happened on the way home that was really strange. I have been towing campers since 1996 and have never had this experience. It was kind of weird and a little spooky, WE pulled in to a rest area on I43 and the truck/trailer side of the rest area was completely empty. I think there were 30 slots there and we were the only thing in the rest area for at least 1/2 hr.

RE: BAttery replacement.

Grizz272, Sorry to hear of the freeing issue. My solar keeps my batteries in great shape during the winter. I have had a camper with at least one battery since the mid 1990's this is the first time I have had this problem.

RE: Tire wear

$613.17 latter I have 4 new tires on the 5vr. The date code for the tires is 4920 . I had metal valve stems put in so I can use a TPMS system with the tires. I plan on having the axle checked when I put the camper away at the end of the season.

RE: Tire wear

5vr is level when being towed. I have scaled the camper when fully loaded and it was not over loaded. I have not weigh the individual axles though.

RE: It's hot!

WE camped on an island in the Mississippi river last Thursday to Sunday. Boondock no power or current bushes available. 96 degrees Thursday and friday was 90. The generator helped alot.

RE: BAttery replacement.

I found out what was wrong with my batteries. They had frozen over the winter and the cases were cracked. The one was cracked in 4 places and the other was cracked right where the top and sides came together. This battery would charge up but be dead in about 36 hrs. I replaced both batteries with deep cycle rv batteries.

Tire wear

The rear tires on my Fifth wheel are wearing on the insides edges of the tires. The right side tire has worn to where the wear bars are flush with the tread. The left side tire no tread or wear bars on the inside edge out to the second tread groove. No threads showing. They tires are 5 rs old and have approx 15 thousands mile on them. Why the wear on the inside of the tires. Fifth wheel is a 2018 Columbus Compass.

RE: King pin lock

My Wife's thought on the lock is "you have a huge investment in the camper The cost of the lock is negligible in comparison to the loss if the camper was stolen". We lock ours now. I did see 2 others locked this weekend at the campground.

RE: King pin lock

Driving around my area there are five fifth wheels. None were locked last year Yesterday they all had locks on them. These are ones sitting in someones yard or drive way, I saw one 2 weekends go at a county park. This the one that started me thinking about getting a lock.

RE: RVLock Keyless

One came on our fifth wheel when we bought it. It never worked real well. I asked my dealer about them this year and his response was take the battery out and don't use it. The wiring is not strong enough to handle the roads yet because of poor designs.

King pin lock

I never really thought about putting a lock on our fifth wheel until this year when I started seeing a lot of stories about stolen RV's. How long have you been locking your king pin?

RE: TV tire life

Every set of Michelin tires I had were junk! I will not run Michelin on anything i own. Blows outs, flat tires for no reason, unable to balance or keep a balance they were all junk. As far as I am concerned stay as far away from Michelin as possible.

How windy?

I visited my son on Saturday and the wind from the southwest was blowing 30+ mph gusting over fifty. I saw a number of trucks towing campers heading north but none heading south. Just how winding does it have to to be for you to pull over and wait for the wind to die down. I told the wife that there was no way I would been out in that wind towing our fifth wheel.

RE: 50 amp RV outlet

Well yesterday was interesting. After opening ad closing the outlet box a 1/2 dozen times the rivet on the left side of the top came off. This left the top hanging by only 1 rivet. Of course this was just after I had mounted the box to my garage wall. Looking closely at the rivet it was not set right and fell out. Today I need to buy a 5/32 screw, washers and a nut to replace the rivet. I will probably buy 2 of everything so when the other side fails I can fix it right away.

RE: 50 amp RV outlet

The plug came today. I now have everything I need to hook this puppy up. I had trouble getting wire nuts and the clamps that hod the cable in the junction box. I also could not find any romex staples to hold the cable to the wall. I did find some conduit clamps that will work. It will not be right but the cable will be secured to the wall. Four different stores were visited until I found everything I needed. Home improvement stores are lacking lot of general parts. There are no Lowes by me. I refuse to shop at Menards because of their mask rules. Home depot has rules but no one is enforcing them or commenting whether you have a mask or not.

RE: 50 amp RV outlet

NEMA 14-50 has been ordered. Now to find some wire. I try and buy local when I can. Nobody had 50 amp rv outlet. One hardware store had never even heard of it.

RE: 50 amp RV outlet

I am not sure of the wire size. You are right that the white and ground should not be connected but that is how they connected a 3 prong outlet to a 4 wire cable.

RE: 50 amp RV outlet

I have the four wires. Right now the neutral and ground are connected together. I will check to make sure the neutral is connected correctly in the circuit box though.
