RE: Dually valve extenders

Stay away from the screw on type, most of them leak. They are also not intended to be used with TPMS which keeps pressure in the stem all the time. Then they really leak. We went with Borg all around. Be sure and get the rubber wheel hole supports for them at the same time. Dave

RE: Howling wind

We've had to pull in our slide a few times to slow down the rocking. Once even had the Winegard travl'er antenna bent it was so bad. Dave

RE: Garmin GPS

We use CoPilot RV on a 9" tablet for this. Works great. Dave

RE: What air compressor do you carry?

I use this compressor from Home Depot to air with. light and 135 PSI does anything I need for the RV, trailer, car, motorcycles. If I don't have power I just start the genny and do my business. Dave

RE: 31Ft Minnie winnie

We had HWH levelers put on our 31' C and they've been great. Solid performers too. No problems with auto level or manual. Did loose some carrying capacity but it was a good trade. Dave

RE: Caulking

Not much sticks to silicone, I had to scrape all my joints on both end caps and top, cleaned well with acetone (carefully, don't rub off paint) and some places mineral spirits. I used pro Flex RV this year on the vertical surfaces and dicor self leveling on the roof. I even applied some eterna bond tape to the top where the end cap joints are. tired of caulking it every year. The Pro flex seems easier to work with and doesn't attract dirt like some caulks. It also sticks like crazy! Dave

RE: Valve extenders safe?

I have the long valves on my Itasca with TPMS. Its not recommended to run extenders if you plan on using TPMS as they pressurize the extender all the time instead of only when airing up. They tend to not seal well and leak. Dave

RE: 2 6v batters VS 2 12v

Mostly because 2 large six volt batteries in series gives you more amp-hours than the 12 V batteries do. For example Our 6V Interstates have a rating of 220 AH (amp/hour) each where a 12V might give 80-90 AH each for a total of only 160-180 AH (example). Plus the deep cycle battery handles deep discharge and recharge better. Dave

RE: Roof Vent Type (brand) on Winnebago/Itasca

We just replaced 2 vents on our Itasca. Had to order from Winnebago because they do their own vent and the hole in the roof is slightly larger than normal. Their vent is slightly larger to fit the hole. Normal vent we purchased from RV supply didn't fit. Too small. Also, the vent came with NO holes drilled for install so I had to drill all before installing. Be sure and use putty under vent, then cover with your favorite self leveling sealant after you are done. Have fun. We ordered the vents from from Winnebago Parts. Dave

Norcold 8421 seals

We have a 15 year old Norcold 8421 that needs new door seals. Seems that the door are dis-continued and not available any more. Anyone replaced those seals with some other type of seal? If so what did you use, how did you attach them.. Any help appreciated. Thanks for any ideas.. Dave

RE: Escapees?

We've been members for years in our class C. Like their parks, plus they do 4 corner weights at 3 locations and the escapades. Makes it easy to get the RV weighed and balanced. their Road side service seems to be good also. Dave

RE: 2006 Grayhawk Ford e450 v-10: Power increase

After doing the weight reduction stuff we installed a 5 Star tuner ($549) on our 2005 Itasca V-10 class C which increases HP but more importantly added torque and moved the peak torque point to slightly lower RPM (3200-3400). Improved both the shifting which really helped and a slight MPG gain. We were surprised how much better she climbed the mountains, passed many Class A's over the years. Dave

RE: New GPS needed

if we used a dedicated tablet, would the gps function use gps data directly or cell phone signals? We also use a dedicated tablet with Co-pilot RV. It has no cell capability so just uses gps only. We update it if needed when on Wifi. Co-pilot RV downloads the maps to the tablet so no data is required. It also allows you to add POI files. Seems to work pretty well for us and is easy to read. We use a USB charger plugged into the cig lighter port for full time power. Dave

RE: Braking System Recommendation

We use a Demco Stay-N-Play Duo for our toad. Energizes the power brake system on the toad so it doesn't require much force on the pedal. Works great for us. Dave

RE: Recommended Tow Set-Ups (Brands) for the Toad

We tow a 3200 tracker with a Roadmaster Sterling tow bar and base plate. Demco Stay-n-play Duo semi-permanent brake system. We had a charge line installed in our E450 based C to keep the car battery charged and LED lites installed for toad lights. Dave

RE: Roof fan

If you have a Winnebago or Itasca verify the fan size as they use a non-standard size. I just replaced one of mine and had to order from the Winnebago parts distributor because the normal replacement fans were about 1/4" to small.

RE: valance removal

We also put in metal blinds to replace our old day/nights. We decided to leave the valences because it looked more complete with the blinds. We recovered them to be more modern looking and match the newer upholstery. Dave

RE: 5 star tuners

We also have one in our 2005 Itasca class C and it worked wonders on performance and shifting. Been in about 5 years now. It increased our gas mileage about 1 1/2 MPG which was unexpected. Well worth every penny. Its really just an update to your ECU software. Dave

RE: Phoenix Area Storage Recomendations

We've used 2 that have covered parking with power for 150-185 range. Coyote Pass RV Storage at El Mirage rd and Olive (in Surprise I think) and Advantage Storage Advantage Storage just North of Bell rd and Grand Ave. Dave
