RE: Food!

Our grandsons had the confidence to cook when they went to college since their parents taught them. Nothing fancy, just good & filling food. One worked at a truck stop where he could buy all kinds of things to eat but always brought leftovers from home to heat up. People he worked with said “it smells good, you know how to cook ?” Its so important to learn.

RE: Camping experiences

I read that multiple times and cannot see how you think the sheriff never showed up. Perps were removed. By who is not stated, but maybe the sheriff provided motivation?
Anyway, seems like the OP handled it all very properly.
To clarify - sheriff came, even ran siren for a bit as he approached, presumably to get their attention. He moved them along.

Camping experiences

3 days at one of our favorite places. Arrived at 2 but check in is 4. Never been an issue but there was a tent on our spot so we killed time for 1.5 hours. They had packed up, but not loaded & ready to leave yet. We drove by & I could see there was fighting between them. We found a place to wait & 4:15 we talked to office. He said they’ve been reported for disturbance during night & sheriff’s coming. They were removed & I heard they’ll not be allowed back since it’s not first time. Now I’m hoping they don’t show up & make trouble for us.
Caretakers were called in to clean up garbage they left. I asked if they would wash up the aluminum picnic table & they scoured it up good. Made me feel better.
Next day I went to restroom & when I closed stall door, one hinge broke & door came down on me so I’m alone & trying to lean it on a wall, then 2nd hinge broke so I could at least set it aside. These are almost new partitions but hinges appeared to be ....plastic.

RE: Is anyone doing anything fun lately?

Had the camper out 5 times. Helping my friend (behind the scenes) who sells at a Farmers Market. She gives me all the produce I can handle in exchange so I’ve froze & canned quite a bit.
I sew quilts for charity and just made & delivered 30 tote bags to Child Protection Services so they have something other than plastic grocery bags when they remove children from an unsafe place.

RE: We are Drowning in our...

Dad made an impression on me 60 years ago with these words “Don’t walk over it, pick it up.”
After I was married, we had an empty lot behind our house. It was 1/2 block and it had a chain link fence around it & it caught litter as it blew around so it could look unsightly. Once a month in nice weather, I’d take a 5 gallon pail and walk around it. I found people’s mail ( which I dropped in the mailbox ) money, postage stamps and of course my pail was full of trash when I got home. At least I didn’t feel like I lived in the dump.

Telling the truth

I’m beginning to think nobody tells the truth anymore. Recently I asked our 50 year old daughter if she remembered the cardinal rule in our house. She said it was “don’t tell a lie, because you’ll be telling many more to cover up the first one”.
People are lying all the time & I’m getting very weary of this. I’ve been dealing with my Aunt’s estate. The bank trust department lied, the attorney is skirting some issues with me and another heir is bold face lying.
Thank you for letting me vent.

RE: 72 ounce steak and potato and salad

We stayed in Amarillo on our way to AZ and it was New Years Eve. We took the campground office lady’s offer to accept a ride to the Big Texan but we had no idea what to expect. The driver knocked on our door early. Who in the heck comes early ? Then I opened the door to a man wearing a black cowboy hat with the biggest brim I’d ever seen. I laughed all the way to the steakhouse. Good memories.

RE: I've Rediscovered Butter

I grew up on a dairy farm. The creamery in town made butter & ice cream and when the truck came to pick up our milk, he automatically left 2# locally made butter. Mom had a standing order for it. Used to be a commercial, “everything’s better with butter on it”.

RE: Leather Sofa Or Fabric Sofa?

We have real leather. It’s nice looking but I don’t like it. Pillows don’t stay where they should & that bothers me.

RE: Loading the rig and freezer...

I precook at home. I steam potato chunks & veggies & rice then make meals in aluminum pans. Meat is quick cook (minute steaks, tenderized pork loin) or precooked at home (chicken, browned hamburger). I use a fry pan & add steamed vegetables when meat is browned. Cover & warm up. Your plan to eliminate boxes is great & I freeze flat packages too. I removed 2 bins at the bottom & made more refrigerator space.
Since we almost always eat outdoors, I have a plastic 3 drawer unit ( utensils, silverware, plates, salt/pepper ) that I love. I sewed a strap to keep drawers closed when moving it & a waterproof cover so it stays outside all the time. Saves me many trips in & out. I put dirty dishes in a plastic dishpan & slip in an old pillowcase because I only do dishes after dinner.
Always open to more ideas.

Small trailer cooking

Since I do all cooking outside, I find it helpful to get a head start at home. I steam small potatoes, rice & vegetables etc then make meals in aluminum disposable pans. Cover with foil. At mealtime I brown tenderized pork loin or minute steaks. Pour on the contents of aluminum pan, cover & simmer until warmed through.

RE: 2019–20 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC POSTINGS

My hair salon has an advertised rule. Wear a mask. My hairdresser said a man came in demanded a haircut but refused to wear a mask. Caused a big scene & left with no haircut. Now what did he gain ?

RE: Help with two Easy Dutch Oven Dessert recipes

I know they sell round aluminum pans that fit Dutch ovens & I know someone who makes his breakfast casseroles (quiche) in them at home then freeze. Defrost & cook at camp. I would think caramel & cinnamon rolls too.
