Telling the truth

I’m beginning to think nobody tells the truth anymore. Recently I asked our 50 year old daughter if she remembered the cardinal rule in our house. She said it was “don’t tell a lie, because you’ll be telling many more to cover up the first one”. People are lying all the time & I’m getting very weary of this. I’ve been dealing with my Aunt’s estate. The bank trust department lied, the attorney is skirting some issues with me and another heir is bold face lying. Thank you for letting me vent.

RE: 72 ounce steak and potato and salad

We stayed in Amarillo on our way to AZ and it was New Years Eve. We took the campground office lady’s offer to accept a ride to the Big Texan but we had no idea what to expect. The driver knocked on our door early. Who in the heck comes early ? Then I opened the door to a man wearing a black cowboy hat with the biggest brim I’d ever seen. I laughed all the way to the steakhouse. Good memories.

RE: I've Rediscovered Butter

I grew up on a dairy farm. The creamery in town made butter & ice cream and when the truck came to pick up our milk, he automatically left 2# locally made butter. Mom had a standing order for it. Used to be a commercial, “everything’s better with butter on it”.

RE: Leather Sofa Or Fabric Sofa?

We have real leather. It’s nice looking but I don’t like it. Pillows don’t stay where they should & that bothers me.

RE: Loading the rig and freezer...

I precook at home. I steam potato chunks & veggies & rice then make meals in aluminum pans. Meat is quick cook (minute steaks, tenderized pork loin) or precooked at home (chicken, browned hamburger). I use a fry pan & add steamed vegetables when meat is browned. Cover & warm up. Your plan to eliminate boxes is great & I freeze flat packages too. I removed 2 bins at the bottom & made more refrigerator space. Since we almost always eat outdoors, I have a plastic 3 drawer unit ( utensils, silverware, plates, salt/pepper ) that I love. I sewed a strap to keep drawers closed when moving it & a waterproof cover so it stays outside all the time. Saves me many trips in & out. I put dirty dishes in a plastic dishpan & slip in an old pillowcase because I only do dishes after dinner. Always open to more ideas.

Small trailer cooking

Since I do all cooking outside, I find it helpful to get a head start at home. I steam small potatoes, rice & vegetables etc then make meals in aluminum disposable pans. Cover with foil. At mealtime I brown tenderized pork loin or minute steaks. Pour on the contents of aluminum pan, cover & simmer until warmed through.

My hair salon has an advertised rule. Wear a mask. My hairdresser said a man came in demanded a haircut but refused to wear a mask. Caused a big scene & left with no haircut. Now what did he gain ?

RE: Help with two Easy Dutch Oven Dessert recipes

I know they sell round aluminum pans that fit Dutch ovens & I know someone who makes his breakfast casseroles (quiche) in them at home then freeze. Defrost & cook at camp. I would think caramel & cinnamon rolls too.

RE: Cooking on a Discada

A buddy and I made a few with the tractor blade and horseshoes. That is real cool.............I think I have all the stuff to make that! And I'm usually not critical about descriptions........but I'm a farm boy, that is a disc blade, not a tractor blade...... Disc blade, yes. Great idea to create this !

Pudding Sandwiches

Make at home, bring for the kids. In mixer bowl combine 1.5 cups milk with 1.5 cups creamy peanut butter. Use low speed. When smooth add 1 package INSTANT chocolate pudding. Mix 1-2 minutes on low speed. Let stand 5 minutes then spread thickly between 2 graham cracker squares & wrap in waxed paper or Saran. Freeze. I like to stand them on end in a bread or loaf pan. I prefer Nabisco brand grahams. .

RE: People suck

There is a TP shortages at my local stores. Now would it make sense for me to just buy a roll or two and hope that I won't be raking up dry leaves next week? I know you are joking but I refuse to stress out over toilet paper when there’s old cotton T-shirts and a washer & dryer in my house. This might be a good time to teach kids how to “make do”.

RE: hand sanitizer scarcity

Story out of Denmark from BBC. One store will sell you the first bottle at regular price. The second one will cost you $150. So far no takers Smart solution, eh ?

RE: They mean well...

I wish I could buy dry cereal in the retro single-serving size package. My Mother bought 10 pack of little boxes of cereal for our kids and they loved choosing their favorites. They’re still available in grocery stores so I get them for our grandchildren now too. They’re not “cost effective” but what the heck ? You are probably not wanting kids cereals however.

RE: hand sanitizer scarcity

Running out of toilet paper is not my worry, I buy on sale & have a 4-6 week supply. Now if I can’t get it - I will cut up a couple of thin t shirts & drop them in a pail of water with a lid. I can wash every day, my automatic washer is just a few steps away. I diapered the kids with cloth diapers & washed them in a wringer washer so it would be no different, people. I would rather use disposable items like everyone else but I refuse to stress over toilet paper. What I am concerned about is what I really need: toothpaste, dental floss, medications, laundry & dish soap, eggs, milk, yeast & flour. I’m happy to say I was already supplied with that. We moved 8 years ago & I was determined to cook from the freezer & pantry so we have less to move. It wasn’t that hard. My cousins in Europe tell me 1 bottle of sanitizer is normal price & each bottle after that price goes up almost 30 times to curb hoarding.
