RE: Cooking on a Discada

A buddy and I made a few with the tractor blade and horseshoes. That is real cool.............I think I have all the stuff to make that! And I'm usually not critical about descriptions........but I'm a farm boy, that is a disc blade, not a tractor blade...... Disc blade, yes. Great idea to create this !

Pudding Sandwiches

Make at home, bring for the kids. In mixer bowl combine 1.5 cups milk with 1.5 cups creamy peanut butter. Use low speed. When smooth add 1 package INSTANT chocolate pudding. Mix 1-2 minutes on low speed. Let stand 5 minutes then spread thickly between 2 graham cracker squares & wrap in waxed paper or Saran. Freeze. I like to stand them on end in a bread or loaf pan. I prefer Nabisco brand grahams. .

RE: People suck

There is a TP shortages at my local stores. Now would it make sense for me to just buy a roll or two and hope that I won't be raking up dry leaves next week? I know you are joking but I refuse to stress out over toilet paper when there’s old cotton T-shirts and a washer & dryer in my house. This might be a good time to teach kids how to “make do”.

RE: hand sanitizer scarcity

Story out of Denmark from BBC. One store will sell you the first bottle at regular price. The second one will cost you $150. So far no takers Smart solution, eh ?

RE: They mean well...

I wish I could buy dry cereal in the retro single-serving size package. My Mother bought 10 pack of little boxes of cereal for our kids and they loved choosing their favorites. They’re still available in grocery stores so I get them for our grandchildren now too. They’re not “cost effective” but what the heck ? You are probably not wanting kids cereals however.

RE: Heading Home (North)

If you are self contained, you can stay almost anywhere can’t you ?

RE: Grocery store

And now kids are being home schooled by parents so spankings have returned to the classroom.

RE: hand sanitizer scarcity

Running out of toilet paper is not my worry, I buy on sale & have a 4-6 week supply. Now if I can’t get it - I will cut up a couple of thin t shirts & drop them in a pail of water with a lid. I can wash every day, my automatic washer is just a few steps away. I diapered the kids with cloth diapers & washed them in a wringer washer so it would be no different, people. I would rather use disposable items like everyone else but I refuse to stress over toilet paper. What I am concerned about is what I really need: toothpaste, dental floss, medications, laundry & dish soap, eggs, milk, yeast & flour. I’m happy to say I was already supplied with that. We moved 8 years ago & I was determined to cook from the freezer & pantry so we have less to move. It wasn’t that hard. My cousins in Europe tell me 1 bottle of sanitizer is normal price & each bottle after that price goes up almost 30 times to curb hoarding.

RE: Preparing for isolation to avoid contact with Corona virus

* Our elderly neighbor man hasn’t stopped going to his coffee group every morning. If he brings this home, I’m not sure his frail wife can endure it. Or him either. * Another retired neighbor works part time in a facility with elderly people. On her days off, she’s never home. I fear she’ll infect the residents. * The “rules” seem to be for the “other person - just not me” seems to be the attitude. * We’re stocked pretty well but I’ll need produce eventually. I buy essentials on sale & usually have 60 days in the supply closet. We were about to leave on a trip so I had just refilled prescriptions - 90 days. Also had hand sanitizer & wipes to keep in the truck for our trip. I grew up on a Midwest farm & we were snowed in 17 days when I was growing up.

RE: Insanity in the grocery stores...

Was shopping in a local Publix today. Talking to an employee and jokingly asked when this all subsides the store will be buried in a tsunami of returns. She said that's true, and also said government regulations (she didn't say state or Federal) mandate that any returned non perishable items must be discarded and cannot be restocked to shelves because there's no way the store can know product has not been tampered with. Wonder if that would slow the panic hoarding if people knew? Waste of product, lost revenue to the store. Sad.......... Would be good if store policy wouldn’t allow returns if sales slips are dated during this madness.

RE: Anyone else camp in an A-frame?

We leave table at home & use small folding table which works outside too. Also had smaller cushions made for dinette since my husband built a cupboard that goes from side to side in the front. Keep groceries, dishes in it. Sliding doors. I sewed a waterproof cover for our stove so it can be left on the picnic table. Also made waterproof cover for a plastic 3 drawer unit - holds silverware, utensils & plates because we cook & eat outside. If weather isn’t good, we often try a local restaurant. He made 2 metal brackets that hook into left & right roof seam above sink. They support a wire shelf to keep clutter up & away. When we sit down for dinner, I put on a teakettle of water so it’s hot to do dishes. I only wash dishes 1x day. During the day I leave them in a plastic dishpan & cover with a white dish towel. We use the campground shower house. Not running the water heater, that’s too much bother. Our water pump is just for the toilet and it was running all the time. We noticed the water connection coming out of the pump were cross threaded (meaning like when you put a jar lid on crooked) and when we corrected that, it quit. There was no leaking it just started & stopped all the time. We think it’s solved now.

RE: Prescriptions while on the road?

When I order refills from CVS Caremark, one of the standard questions is “where is this to be shipped?” My home is the default answer but I have the option to get it at the campground. I always alert the campground office with a note IN WRITING that I’m expecting medicine by mail.

RE: Sheets for non-standard beds.

I successfully altered fitted sheets to fit my rv mattress. Queen Rv mattress was 6” shorter than what we use in the house. (I determined that with a tape measure. ). I sewed a 3” tuck from side to side right through the middle. Visualize this: after sewing I have a 3” flap (by that I have shortened the sheet 6”.). Then I removed 2” of the flap, leaving 1”. I cut just ONE of the sides again to 1/2” and folded the 1” over the 1/2” and pinned it in place then stitched through all thicknesses. This makes a Felt Fell seam. Raw edge is encased just like the side seam down your leg of jeans. Sheet fits perfect & you never notice the alteration. I had extra sheets on hand so no expense to me.
