RE: Ripped off at Chevron

Must be good to pull this on an experienced MX traveler :( Those guys are amazing! I have been cheated so many times at Mexican stations I only buy fuel in Mexico when I have to. They know every trick in the book.

RE: Transfer Switch

No damage inside the TS. Panel breakers are good. Power to one side of the points. It won't engage the relay to move the arm to power up the AC side? Make & Part number would help. Is it just a transfer switch or is it also a surge guard?

RE: Oops, Dodge just threw you under the bus...

For the first time the latest commercials from Dodge are now calling their Half ton Dodge Ram's "Light Duty Pickups". The commercials don't verbally say so but the print on the screen is quite clear. I know it is just marketing but then again many of the Ram so called half tons come with well under 1,000# of payload so maybe they have a point. Pardon my chuckling but after having a Doge Ram 4X4 crew cab guy tell me that my Honda Ridgeline was not a "Real truck" it is hard to keep a straight face. His "Real Truck" comes in at 977# of payload so maybe the new Dodge commercials are right. For the record... Ridgeline, Tacoma, Colorado, Ranger, Yukon and even the Frontier typically have more payload than the venerable Dodge Ram. :B Since I can flat tow a Ram, Chevy and Ford half ton I'm missing the point. I haven't seen any Honda, Nissan or Toyota trucks behind a camper.

RE: Locast adds Atlanta and Phoenix

Is the only point of this service to have local TV on a computer or when travelling? All I have to do is turn the TV on to get local TV, although rural folks don't always get a good signal.

RE: 50 amp coach on 30 amp power

Being Comanche, I'm just gonna start a campfire in the middle of the front area. My people, the original full timers, have been doing that for generations. GM That's funny! Seems like we all started out as full timers way back when.

RE: 50 amp coach on 30 amp power

The adapter might overheat. The 30 amp receptacle might overheat. It is really NOT good to exceed a 25 amp draw on a 30 amp service because you don't know how good the feed really is. Excellent advice. Grab the 30 amp adapter after using high amperage for a while. It will almost certainly be hot to the touch. That is going to start melting the adapter as well as overheating the receptacle. Campground electrical get a lot of use and abuse, the connections are usually well worn and not making the best connection. Poor connections = heat. Their circuit breakers are also well worn. I carry spare 30 and 50 amp plugs for that very reason. We were parked on a farm plugged into a grain elevator this summer. DW called and said we lost power. Turns out she tripped the 90 amp breaker on the grain elevator! Lets see; 3 A/C units, AquaHot 4000 watts, microwave & electric skillet etc. all at the same time! We had an impromptu class on electrical consumption....:S

RE: RVs and California's Planned Power Outages

I have read some RVs use the on board generator to power their home when needed. It's fairly easy. If you decide to power the house circuitry instead of extension cords to the refrigerator, etc. you have to turn the main breaker off to keep from back feeding the utility.

RE: Printer

Example, we used to print boarding cards for air flights...then they started letting you download them to your phone (plus you can always get a printed copy at the airport). Solved the problem without maintaining a printer. I used an airline app with a boarding pass recently. It showed on the app so I did not download it (that won't happen again). When I showed up at security after waiting in line the app wouldn't show the boarding pass and I had to go to ticketing, the kiosk wouldn't print it either. I had to get in line and get an agent to print one and start over. Lesson learned, paper if available always works.

RE: Printer

We will soon be able to take our MH out for 2 to 4 weeks at a time, maybe 3 or 4 times a year. We will be taking a laptop, cell phones and IPad with us. Would one of the small portable printers be worth while for us? Does anyone use one in a scenario such as above? As you can see, everyone has an opinion. I want a printer with me for many reasons. The inkjets will dry out but are so cheap I just throw them away after 2 or 3 years. I like color for troubleshooting diagrams. I'm currently using an HP 3700 series FWIW.

RE: Not A Joke Top Off With Gasoline or Diesel

Hey B.S. It's been what? A week? Shame you cannot differentiate a week from a month. Costo Chula Vista CA. prices jumped fifty-one cents a gallon. But of course, that is beyond your vision. The issue was and is this: Saudi Arabia sooner or later is going to drag us kicking and screaming in the middle of all this. Meanwhile, the who filled his gas tank is laughing his ass off. Let's hear more comments. I found it interesting that Loves local retail price for diesel jumped to $3.28 but the wholesale price that truckers and RVers with an EFS card has decreased to $2.57. Costco is in the business of making money...............

RE: First time Eternabond user observations

Wow is this stuff sticky! Once it touches anything it is stuck for good. When doing a long seam make sure you get the tape started straight. When pulling off the backing to expose the adhesive make sure to pull it off straight. I tried pulling it off at an angle and the backing tore at a 45 degree angle so now I had a piece that only half stuck. That was not fun trying to fix. Prepped the area with acetone and that worked well. Using a razor blade to cut the tape works best. Rolled with a plastic wall paper roller and that worked good. I know some people here like to follow up with a dab of Doctor at the edges but I see no reason to. Putting it in the freezer before use makes it more manageable.

RE: RV dump station map

If you would have looked, there is a map of the USA three inches down. No map on my screen for some reason. The other posts with individual states is helpful. I have yet to find a site or app that is 100% correct.

RE: Vehicle Size Issues at Border Crossings

Does anyone worry about height of the lanes at Lukeville. Last time I went thru I was in a car I noticed that my camper is taller than the lane. I'm going thru into the US in March and would like some feedback. Thanks The Lukeville height signs are wrong. I've seen all sizes of RV's go through and don't see any scratches on the overhead. The sides are a different story, there are lots of scratches on those poles. Go slow, very slow to avoid rocking. Remember, no one cares how slow you go or how long it takes. If you damage your RV it's not because you were rushed through by anyone. If your mirrors are spread out more than 9 or 10 feet you need to have the tools to bring them in.

RE: Entry door pin pad won’t work

You didn't say who the manufacturer is. Mine is Trimark, I usually unplug the power from the module in the dash but a couple of times I had to unplug the keyboard which is in my passenger side console.

RE: 50 amp cheater box

I use it quite a bit with two 30A plugs. As stated the 20A plugs are normally GFI which don't work but if you find a non GFI 20A it would work. ALWAYS test with a meter, If you read 240 VAC across the 50A plug and 120 VAC on each side to neutral and ground it should work. If it doesn't do not use it!
