RE: Are class A resorts just as filled up as other RV parks?

Mankind and all its works are parts of nature. Fancy RV parks included.

RE: Ultra Lite vs Normal Weight

Just a note: many 3/4 ton diesel trucks have surprisingly low payload, some I saw were under 2400 pounds. 3/4 ton gassers are generally over 3000 pounds.

RE: Forty Foot Gasser

Ford's heaviest gas motorhome chassis has a GVWR (total weight limit of coach) of 26,000 pounds and a GCWR (total weight limit and coach and what it is towing) of 30,000 pounds. Depending on your needs a 40 footer might put you in a bind with regards to payload and the vehicle you can pull behind it. Not necessarily but possibly, it's something to be aware of. Now Forest River is building that 40 footer you like on the 24,000 pound chassis and I'd be leery of that. I'd be leery of the 252" wheelbase too; that's pretty short and will result in a long overhang behind the rear wheels; that means wide ass tail swing and possibly poor straight line stability.

RE: Are all new RVs built this bad or is it just mine?

Keep in mind that talent chases money in the blue collar world, just as in the white collar one. The good paying blue collar jobs are in NW Indiana, not NE Indiana where the RV makers are. Those in Goshen and Elkhart with some moxie head west over Hammond way for a job in the mills or refineries. Or a few more miles west to Chicago. Now if the RV makers raised wages they'd attract better help. But even the best help is constrained by the policies of management and if management wants it cheap and fast and stuck together with staples then what can the workers do but satisfy those goals? It all comes down to management. Anyway, people value good work...until they have to pay for it.

RE: Tow Bar Age

Over rigging is a waste of effort and money.

RE: Disappointing test drive

My 34" Tiffin 32SA gasser goes down the road fine. Maybe it's the 228" wheelbase, no coach its size has a longer wheelbase and most have one significantly shorter. No long rear overhang either.

RE: Tiffin 2018 33AA

Some owners report it's a kind'a squirrelly, perhaps because of its short wheelbase. I suggest a thorough test drive.

RE: Diamond Shield removal

I think chipped paint looks better than a bra.

RE: Towing capacity - surprisingly little on new coaches

It would be interesting to talk to an engineer from the manufacturer. What is the limiting factor in the GCWR? Is it the brakes? If it is and the toad has a braking system is that covered? I know that doesn't change the number but it may be the reality. As for the Ford F53 chassis: Ford states that the brakes are rated for the GVWR of the coach, not the GCWR, and recommends auxiliary braking systems when the combined weight of coach and towed vehicle exceeds the GVWR. I have a Ford based coach with a GVWR of 24,000, a CCWR of 30,000 and a hitch rated at 5000. The coach weighs 22,500 loaded and pulls a car that weighs, rounding up, 5000 pounds. Thus my combined weight is 27,5000, leaving 2500 pounds of unused GCWR. I wonder if the chassis is up to handling a hitch of higher capacity.

RE: Senior Citizens Speak Up

RE: What's Opened?

I think we should give the Comanche the freedom to leave Oklahoma and wander Texas as they once did. And we can leave Dallas Steve free to deal with them on his own.

RE: Anyone seen a Van Leigh???

They came out about five years ago and we looked at them several times, including the newer Beacon, the top of the line. Very nice real wood cabinetry and on the Beacon gorgeous paint. I think it's the nicest of the lower-upper mass produced rigs---nicer than a Landmark or Redwood and far nicer than a Montana, Bighorn or anything from Grand Design. But lacking the heavy duty bones of a DRV---the heavy box beam frame, thick walls, independent suspension, standard disc brakes, available fiberglass roof etc.

RE: Don't come to Massachusetts

The Pilgrims came to America so they could pray. When they weren't preying on the Indians they preyed on each other.

RE: Psssst...wanna see a Wall?

Make it a felony to employ illegal aliens and then give a few employers of them stiff sentences in maximum security prisons. When work for illegals dries up so will their presence.

RE: Electric heated water hose

I use the heated hose in the winter only. It has a thermostat that turns it on when it gets sufficiently cold so I don't worry about plugging and unplugging. We don't get hard freezes where we spend winters but it doesn't hurt to use it. Anyway, come April when we move out the heated hose goes in storage under the coach.

RE: Paradigm RV Alliance

I doubt frames, suspensions and brakes are anything special.

RE: Morryde Step Above

The MoRyde steps are a case of the manufacturers doing something for their benefit and getting the customers to think it's done for theirs.

Count your blessings; at least our nomads aren't Steppe Peoples bringing fire and sword in addition to garbage and unsightliness. No Scythians, Alans, Huns and Tatars.
