RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

When we stayed in Riley(mid-June) we saw Moose all the time, with calf. One day we put up the shades and there were a Mom and her calf 2' from our rig munching away. We also had been warned about a Mom and her 2 calfs being very aggressive in protecting them and to avoid. We were at Riley mid June also, site A22. Maybe we were neighbors! We saw those moose too along with a mom and her triplets that hung around the entrance!

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

We drove it in July. No problems at all. Several bear sightings, beautiful scenery. Little traffic. Long stretches between facilities. Go for it!!

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

In Wisconsin on way back home. Traveled over 11400 miles so far. Steer clear of Tok cut off between Tok and Glennallen. Use rt 4 between Delta Junction and Glennallen. Tok cut off is in bad shape (frost heaves) and construction. Broke a spring and shackle there. Saw another guy who broke an axle. Long delays there also. Unfortunately our caravan is scheduled to take the TOK cutoff in early August, will go slow. Mile marker 38 to 50 is the worst construction, but maybe it will be better by then. We went through there in late June. It’s only one lane so Pilot car has to take you through. Long delays because it’s so slow, we averaged 5-10 mph

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

Tomorrow we are leaving Mississippi headed towards Yellowstone, glacier, Yukon and Alaska. We traveling with our Ram longhorn dually and host cascade camper. Wife and are excited we have eight weeks and never been on this route before. Hope to do some fishing along the way. We are six weeks into our trip. I hope you’re coming up through Banff and Jasper National parks! Well worth it! Saw 17 bears in BC and Yukon, one was hit on the road. We are currently in Kenai and heading over to Wrangell tomorrow. It’s been a great trip! A few bumps along the way but great so far!

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

Just talked to a ranger here at the park. He confirmed there is a fire ban but having a camp fire in a fire ring at the park is ok as long as it is not left unattended.

We are there right now also at Pine Lake Government campground.. only about 6-7 kilometers from Haines Junction. Have not seen any smoke or notices here at the campground about the ban. The guy next to me was burning all night!

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

I actually do have reservations at Denal State park for two different arrival dates as I’m not sure when we’ll get there. Also have reservations at Denali National park (Riley Creek) for a different arrival date yet. I had heard about how it fills fast. Also made reservations for Banff and Jasper due to their popularity and the fact that the largest campground in Jasper is closed for renovations. the rest of the trip we’ll be winging it, hook ups or boon docking, we’re ready for both.

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2019

Leaving May 15, going up through Winnipeg and over to Banff, the ice fields Jasper then up up Alaska highway. Hitting Fairbanks, Denali, Kenai and whatever we think looks cool! Winging it without reservations. First timers, this is our bucket list trip, got my milepost 2019. Nervous as hell but can’t wait! We’re both 70 but going for scenery mostly and whatever else we can get into. Pulling a fiver. Been combing the forums and many other sites for info on what to see and what to do. Wish us luck!
