RE: Frayed cable

Most run a single cable right down the center to a pulley at the back, then back to the front. The 2 exceptions I know of were, the Jaycos with the cable above the floor. They had the crank in the right front corner. And the Colemans that had the crank at the rear center. I don't think they used a cable.

RE: Alternatives for Michelin XPS Ribs?

Currently have XPS Ribs on my 5th wheel. Great tire but they are now 7 years old. Tons of tread left but feel 7 years is pushing my luck.
Looking to replace but XPS Ribs are costly. Are there cheaper alternatives that are just as reliable? Have had blow outs with factory china bombs. They don't last long here in the hot desert southwest.
What about Bridgestone Duravis (not sure which model), or possibly Maxxis? What else?
The Bridgestone Duravis R-238 is as good a tire, but won't be much if any cheaper. With a 10.5K GVWR I'd likely go with the the poly LT, or just spend the coin. We run about 12K with 14.4K GVWR. When we replaced the Bridgestone Duravis R-250's I went to Sailuns. Still overkill, but after 3 year I'd do it again.

RE: Highway speeds - Keep your distance!

Give it a try for a few thousand miles before you decry all the bad issues your mind invents.
150 miles was all I needed, I don't care for it. In fact for me it's a I will not buy a vehicle with it.

RE: F250 or F350 to Haul a 5th Wheel???

Your going to want a diesel to pull the load in the mountains. And your going to NEED a Dual Rear Wheel truck to carry the LOADED pin weight. That trailer could be around 4K for a fully loaded pin, plus the 4 people & stuff in the truck.

RE: Prentice Cooper State Park: Chattanooga, TN

Prentice Cooper is a State Forest, not a park. I haven't been up there in years.

RE: How critical is axle ratio?

And all that goes right out the window as soon as you back up. Only the lower rear gear helps in reverse.
