RE: Need tow vehicle - preferably under 10k

I have a Buddy who has a Pioneer 30bh quad bunkhouse and he has an 07 Expedition EL. The thing tows the trailer very well. We have some dialing in to do on the Weight Distribution hitch, other than getting the full floating axles I don’t see much of an advantage with the Excursion. Jeremiah FYI - The Expedition has full-float axles too! It's a necessary part of IRS:) You are absolutely correct! Thanks for the clarification! Jeremiah

The independent suspension of the Expedition gives the big Beast a large, wide, stable platform. He upgraded the tires to stiffer XL tires. However, I must jab in there that my 5.3 does out accelerate his rig when hitched even though I just have 3:08 Rear axle ratio and he has a 3:73. My trailer is about 600 lbs lighter than his, but mine has the 6 speed transmission. For his rig, we need to adjust the hitch head angle as it’s pretty much pointing straight up and we are going to try to get his front end pushed back down some. He is about 3/4 inch higher on the fenders. We are also going to add a second sway bar to his set up. IMHO giving up the superior modern suspension on your Expedition would not be worth it to me to go with a 20 plus year old design. You can always have the receiver tube reinforced if it is flexing too much from the weight distribution...even though these things are only rated to 10,000 lbs 1,000 lb tongue weight max with weight distribution I have not seen any flex at all with the GM or the Fords integrated receivers. As to feel, I never want to “not feel the rig back there”. I need to know and make adjustments as needed. The ProPride will help for sure, but I’d fix any misbehavior before I put that on. The forces that cause sway can break those fancy hitches, its better to be stable first and then add them on for insurance purposes. Thanks, and of course...JMHO. Jeremiah

RE: Ok what truck to buy ?

Define “Struggle” please? If you mean it slows down on hills and you have to get the RPM’s up to maintain speed, you will have to do that with any Gas V8. Thanks! Jeremiah

RE: 2008 F250 Manual Extending Mirrors

I would try spraying some WD up in the sliding part. That may loosen it up some. Did it slide before? Thanks!

RE: Looking to buy, bunkhouse ~26ft, all advice welcome

We just bought a Zinger 270BH. It has a double over double bunk bed arrangement. The top bunk has a 300lb capacity. One thing I noticed when we were looking is that most top bunks do not have a lot of capacity. That may not mean anything right now but it can in the future especially as kids get older or you want to bring family along. Enclosed, heated, and insulated underbelly's were important to us as we like to camp in the late winter. It may not be an issue for you. Finally, lower your expectations for quality. Even the best of these things are slapped together sticks and staples. You will have to tighten screws, tap in staples as they back out, tighten lug nuts, etc... Finally, enjoy the journey. Thanks! RE: Burbman Crosses over to the Dark Side....

Well, Burbman still works. Looks like you live in the Suburbs. :) Congrats on the Diesel. I’m probably going to be looking for one very soon. Thanks! Jeremiah

RE: General Grabber ATX?

I just put them on my Tahoe. I love them. Only about 1,500 miles in but so far they are great. I’m only running about 42 PSI...I’m going to try 60 PSI when I test tow my travel trailer. Thanks! Jeremiah

RE: PSI of LT tire after upgrading from P rated tire

Just want to quickly say that my P tires on the Tahoe were rated to nearly 10,000 lbs of capacity at max PSI. REGARDLESS of that. It was a squishy ride with my TT... and now that I have them on the Tahoe I realize just how squishy the empty ride was, because even at 41 PSI the ride is much more sure footed. As to how am I going to air up my tires. I’m going to test on it and see which psi works for me while empty and which works for my load while towing. I just changed to LT’s and I am well pleased. Relax a bit and stop getting lost in the charts and just test on it. It’s really not that complex. Thanks, and JMHO Jeremiah

RE: Got my New Tires for the Tahoe

Good lookin' shoes .... how's the road noise? Thank you! These are not bad at all. Not as quiet as the Goodyear Wranglers they replaced but not bad at all. Small trade off for stability! Thanks! Jeremiah

RE: 5th wheel verses travel trailer

Depends on the rig. Some fivers have TONS of excess capacity... some less than a ton. Just shop around. In general... a TT will have less CCC than a fiver. But it can’t be an always statement. Thanks! Jeremiah

Got my New Tires for the Tahoe

I went with the General Grabber ATS 265/70R17 in Load Range E. I immediately took a road trip to see my folks so I have about 600 miles on them. Ride great and look great I think. All the squishy jiggly ride is gone even without the trailer. https://i.imgur.com/mbDHWTll.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3SbB8d4l.jpg Running the PSI at 44. I’ll bump that up to 60 when I test on the tires towing the TT. Thanks! Jeremiah

RE: Tire issue

Same here... my Michelin’s failed just like BenK’s.. Every set of Michelin’s I have ever owned failed either spectacularly (sidewall failure) or slowly (leaking through the cracks) I’m part of the Never Again movement as it relates to Michelin’s. To their credit, I’ve never worn the trad off of one. Lol Thanks! Jeremiah

RE: Tire Recommendation for a 2011 Tahoe Please

Well, I think I figured out Some of my interstate handling issue. Changing the oil tonight and of course doing my normal checks. https://i.imgur.com/4XrdSYpl.jpg Funny thing, when I installed the transmission cooler 3 weeks ago this tire did not look like this. I visually checked the suspension components and everything looked good, nothing is loose. Oh well, I suppose I’ll be getting those Cooper AT3’s a little earlier than planned. Off to the shop tomorrow to get this sorted out. Thanks for all the suggestions! Jeremiah

RE: Tire Recommendation for a 2011 Tahoe Please

If you haven't read about Burbman's search for a dually...he is going to sell his big block 8.1L Suburban soon... We got 60K on our original Bridgestone tires so I replaced all four with the same OEM tires. Pricey but it'll last a lifetime. Thank you! I’m probably going to look for a 3/4 ton Suburban in the next few years. How much payload does yours have? Thanks! Jeremiah Yes I have! There are two legendary 3/4 ton Burbs out there. Yours and Burbmans! Ha ha! I have to save a bit to buy one. Good hearing from you Ben! Thanks! Jeremiah

Sorry for the multiple posts. The site had been glitchy saying “temporarily unavailable” each time and then all of a sudden they all went through.?? Thank you for the recommendation! I will look them up! The RV.Net portal is just about worthless for me. I’ve been using forums.goodsamclub.com with much greater success. The log in is the same as RV.net. Thanks! Jeremiah

Tire Recommendation for a 2011 Tahoe Please

Hello, I need to buy new tires for my Tahoe. I'd like to put LT tires on it as we are pulling a TT now. Any recommendations on tires? I'm thinking about BF Goodrich AT's but am open to other suggestions. Looking for a stiffer sidewall then what I have now which are Goodyear Wrangler something or other P rated squishy tires. Thanks! Jeremiah
