RE: Durango, Silverton & Telluride Area

So jffnkrn, did you get a ton of rain? Just got back from a week in Ouray. Mudslides up Yankee Boy Basin, street flooding in Telluride, streams to jump in Silverton, East Portal Road closed in Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP from rock slides. We've desperately needed rain but every day??? We have been in the area for a week as of tomorrow. Rain, well let me say we have had some perfect weather up to this point. Arrived north of Dolores 8/1, set up and kicked back at Circle K Ranch, had a horseback ride Tuesday, just after our three hour ride getting back to camp, a little rain, did Rico Wednesday, Rain for an hour or so every afternoon, just enough to keep dust and temps down to 75 /48. Then on to Ouray KOA, (not the best of places), rained every afternoon so far, again just an hour or so without flooding etc. toured around the areas, hikes etc. rain just after noon when we were done, except lunch yesterday a light rain, just perfect. today will be another day like those, then head south to Silverton a couple days, then Durango area for the last week of our stay. for us from Arizona, we are loving the cool wet weather. just been a great trip. just about two weeks to go.

RE: Durango, Silverton & Telluride Area

just an update, three weeks, a few days in Dolores river front camping, horseback ride, then on up and around to Ouray, hot springs, gondola ride, sight seeing, Telluride and Gunnison, Then on to Silverton, mine tour and sight see, then on to Durango for some more river side camping, train ride and whatever. So a little persistence, daily calls to get into spots from cancelations and wha la we have a place to be every night for three weeks, kick back and enjoy. So just thought i would share that with a little persistence and time we got r done!!!

RE: Fifth wheel length question

Might as well add another comment, thought, etc. When we upgraded form bumper pull to fifth wheel, we really never thought about our favorited spots as we can still camp near by, do day trips for the sights and activities. So the larger one is great, still get to do all the travelling and camping we want and then some. When we stay for three to five weeks at a time, it does make it nicer to have the extra room. As others have said, floor plan is one of the main issues. be happy with what you want to spend time in, the spot, it will be there, somewhere.

RE: Cleaning your 7-pin connector: air gun brushes

I have kept my trailer plugs, bumper pulls and now fifth wheels up and out of the dirt, pointed down or now in the hitch. Never had an issue, also make sure the plug on the truck is kept closed when not in use. I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a little electrical lube to the male and female plugs. :)

RE: Fifth wheel length question

Past: bumper pull, 19 foot, 22 foot, 26 foot then fifth wheel, 33 foot twice, now 37 foot. All have been great. We do sometimes have a little issue getting into some places, but planning ahead to get a great spot and place hasn't been an issue. The last trade up gave us a bit more closet and bathroom space, living area about the same, plenty of room. plus we now have the washer and dryer so that will pay for itself hopefully with in the year. Just make sure you like the floor plan and get it, enjoy it and have fun. Boondocking won't be an issue, just remember about "off grid living" - water, sewer and electricity, how long you can be off grid. I know said before, have fun! ! !

Durango, Silverton & Telluride Area

Well, thanks in advance for any input. We are heading to the area of Durango late July for a few weeks and looking at places and things, a lot. A lot of places to camp. Last time I asked here was a few years ago and someone told be about Four Mile State Park near Niagara Falls, perfect place. So this time, near Durango. will stay for about a week near there and take in the sites, maybe move on to Silverton or Telluride area. Any great ideas of camp spots, roads to avoid will be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff & Karen

RE: Camping Safety

WOW, the OP just wanted some info on safe camping. Hopefully all this and that didn't or doesn't discourage them. OP, just do it, and enjoy it and like said a number of times, be aware, use your gut and eyes, you'll be fine. so safe travels,You ask an open ended question asking for opinions, you may get a lot more than you figured. I didn't see anything in any posts that would cause someone to be discouraged from traveling or RV'ing. Sorry, My interpretation of some of the comments, not meant to offend anyone.. Travel safe, Have a great day.

RE: Health rant

Yep I would have to agree with the majority of "Just Do It", My mother, wheel chair bound for years, at one point in her life while at our place for a bbq, wanted to go go outside. I helped to put her arms on a low hanging tree limb, helped her stand up, then after about a minute or so, she had tears in her eyes, I thought I hurt her, nope, she was happy and said' " Don't ever wait to do something you enjoy, you'll miss it, just like putting your feet in the grass". May she continue her rest where she feels no more pain and suffering. So My thing, as long as you can, go and do! Safe Travels to you, if needed re-arrange your route so you can get your treatments and go. You worked for years to be able to do it, now do it.

RE: Camping Safety

Well, my two cents or experience, whatever you want to call it. Over the past 20 + years, no issues. We travel all over, been up the west coast, stayed in multiple states, state and national parks, private campgrounds and rv parks, walmart, museums etc. For us, we just make sure we are aware of our surroundings, don't stay in an area that doesn't feel right. Staying for free, we go in to the establishment, ask for the manager, get permission and they usually tell you where to park, get their name and are very comfortable. We stay most anywhere, also carry maps and check websites for stopping points. Cracker Barrel, Cabelas, other restaurants, museums, even stayed the night at a gm dealership as we were getting an oil change the next day, stayed at Lowe's in California. But overall, no worries, on our part, about 6 to 8 thousand miles per year, only one time had an uncomfortable issue. That was at a campground near mount hood oregon, i woke up about 3 am, something didn't feel right, we left. no biggie. Anyhow, just go, be aware, be carful and know where you are and enjoy your travels.

RE: GM 6.6 & 3:73

Towing a fifth wheel, GVWR at 14K. I am just looking at comparisons on what others had from gas to gas, more specifically the change form the 6.0 to the 6.6, gas yes, 4:10 or 3:73, Preferably the 3:73. Just getting some real life info. not opinions. thanks

GM 6.6 & 3:73

Looking for actual input, experience not opinions without experience. Anyone that has a GM, 6.6 gas with 373 gears, towing I would like to know your experience with towing power, fuel mileage and overall performance. Again, looking for actual information and maybe a comparison to what you had before. thanks in advance. Jeff

RE: Good Sam Rally/ Convention

The Washington State Good Sams has three rallies annually in Lynden, Moses Lake, and Cashmere. I believe they are well attended, however, attendance is dropping. I've spoken to people who have attended and they had a really good time. How do i find out when and where those are going to be for 2022. We will be in the northwest towards the end of summer. maybe it would work out that we could attend.

RE: Hartland TIres

well just thought I would give an update, if anyone cares, yep too much time available to do stuff. We have made another trip, about 1000 miles and I am happy with the tires. they run cool, actually may help a little with gas mileage as they are smooth and have very little friction. so since I originally "May have put the cart before the horse". It has all worked out. Also the cost right at $1000 was acceptable. so again, thanks for listening and providing your feedback. have a great day.

RE: Dryer Vent / Exhaust

yep to all a thanks. I was planning on just dropping through the floor, thought it would make things nicer inside, but after some more checking, getting input, i will just go through the spot on the wall. will have to cut a notch in the shelf for the hose, but no biggie there. I will order the black one off Amazon when i get back. thanks again. have a great day

Dryer Vent / Exhaust

Good day to all! Have a thought, question, etc. need ideas, thoughts, comments etc. All comments will be appreciated. So here goes, we have a 2019 Reflection 337 fifth wheel. Closet has space and hook ups for washer and dryer. both sides of the wall inside the closet are marked for a dryer vent that goes through the wall. I am going to use an inside vent temporarily first while gathering info. I am thinking of going down through the floor of the closet and out underneath near the hitch area. Obviously I would pull the plastic panel down first to make sure I wasn't along a structural cross piece or any wiring. This thought is to keep from cutting a hole in the side and just having the vent downward to the ground. Securing it closed would be simple with a little hinged door as to keep bugs, debris etc. from coming in while traveling etc. So thoughts, ideas etc. welcome. Have a great day!!! Jeff

Good Sam Rally/ Convention

Well the last thread for rally was closed due to lack of activity. How weird when this subject brought up. Yeah not many people replied. Me, Just wondering how many people would actually attend another Good Sam Rally, like the one about 8 years ago in Phoenix, the only ones We attended were Redmond Oregon, Phoenix Arizona, Albuquerque NM. We had a nice time with the seminars, exhibits etc. but mostly the visiting and meeting new people with likes of traveling and enjoying the outdoors. I also emailed Marcus with questions about the rallies, of course NO RESPONSE. HM if were not happy is he really not happy??? This thread may get closed too! Just thoughts rambling through this crazy mind of mine. YOU!?!?!?!?
