RE: Interior Design – Painting

This is water-based, cheap sealer, design for saving money while painting new drywall. When you apply it over lacquer or vinyl it will peel off at alarming rate. What kind of RV has lacquer or vinyl walls? Many have vinyl walls as the wall board that was used was covered in vinyl. How about naming one? I've never seen one. The Northern Lite I had used a vinyl covering on the wall board material. It was a thin board with a wrap around the board to give it the texture pattern. Several of the Bigfoot's that I have seen used the same wall board. Also many trailers use the same board. Thanks.

RE: Alternative Generator For our campers

I think solar makes more sense and also works when the TC is in storage. $395 plus seems like a lot.

RE: Charging camper batteries with generator?

Plug in because the TC onboard charger will do a better job charging and has less chance for a mistake.

RE: maybe add some heavy duty pressure treated lumber?

PT wood guidelines. It's corrosive to aluminum. https://www.popularmechanics.com/home/outdoor-projects/how-to/a3103/your-guide-to-working-with-pressure-treated-lumber-15655848/

RE: maybe add some heavy duty pressure treated lumber?

I'm not sure why you expect to have lots of water in the bed. Doesn't it have grooves? BTW, it's typical to have untreated wood in trailer floors. Better to dry out than keep water in for mold. I'd go with simple and light and replace easily if needed. After all, it made it years with the original design.

RE: Tripple slide weight

Which triple slide are you interested in?

RE: 11 1/2’ TC owners wish they had a 9 1/2’

Why do you think Dodge doesn't offer Mega Cab with long beds? Would not work for grocery getter as impossible to park at common parkings. Since you have no issues with your truck and camper, how could they have an issue? :D

RE: Moisture under mattress solutions please

We keep Reflectix under our mattress and don’t have a problem with condensation under our mattress. We didn’t do “testing”, but DW and I both noticed less cold air around the edges of the mattress after adding Reflectix. Try using a mattress pad (water resistant or water proof) if you aren’t already. Just an idea.

RE: 11 1/2’ TC owners wish they had a 9 1/2’

I have a 9 1/2 and never had a 11 1/2. The 9 1/2 is only 1 1/2 ft longer than the truck. A 11 1/2 is 3 1/2 ft longer. That's noticable in parking lots. I doubt it would matter in many camping spots. It will make a difference backing in with more overhang.

RE: New Ford 7.3 Gas

Watch me get whacked by a meteorite on my last day of work : ) Of course, that’s why you should retire as soon as you can. :D

RE: What happened to Side entry?

Host McKinley was 8 1/2 and side entry. I don't find the center door to be that big of an issue with trailer. The Fox Landing is Northwoods solution that folds down over a trailer tongue.

RE: New Ford 7.3 Gas

Tfl channels on YouTube, has a few tests on the 7.3 including mpg of 3.55 and 4.30. Take a look. I expect they will have more.

RE: Clean Diesel trucks for TC ... maybe not!

The point of this thread was we don’t know how much pollution really happens when diesels regen. AFAIK, there is no emission test for regen mode. Who knows how much a PSD, Duramax, or Cummins puts into the air? For sure, is probably more than the non Regen mode. Just thought provoking.

RE: Ideas from those of you who built your own hold downs

I would also like to put the low profile, molded splash guards on my factory dual wheel fenders, I found some but I don’t want black. You would think they would make them in custom paint colors like they do for auto’s. I have been trying to find grey with no luck. I like black, but you should be able to paint the black ones if that is what you want.

RE: Please help me decide on a truck camper

Fiberglass just will not leak, and if it does the fiberglass and foam are waterproof and the foam fills in all the voids so there is nowhere for water to go anyway other than the floor or back outside. Of course, this is not true. It’s easy to find examples of significant damage in fiberglass shell campers as well. You just have to do a search. Besides, many “stick” campers includiing my Host has aluminum studs with walls filled with foam. Yes, they have their own set of problems. It’s a double slide with tremendous amount of room compared to a “fiberglas” shell TC. Bottom line is nobody has built a perfect TC. There’s always going to be a tradeoff. Pick the tradeoffs you want to make, but all TC designs can leak. Maintenance is important for all types because they all have holes cut in the front/sides/back/top.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

I have been in touch with Doug karr at northwood and he says the wolf creek 850 would not be a problem at all with a set of firestone 5000 pound air bags to help out. I’ll be the first one to burst the bubble. Sounds like discounted all of the experience posted. That’s fine, but don’t forget that the motivation of Northwood might be a bit different than the people here. :D

RE: Roof Vent Security

I agree about the overthinking. The point of your escape hatch is to be able to escape in case of a fire. If you that worried about going to the place, I’d find somewhere else to go.
