RE: Loss of Power after New Fan Clutch

You didn't notice it because the old clutch didn't work well to start with and was worn out. These units lose 5~10% of their efficiency each year as they age. You probably hear it roar in the morning now and when ever it has cooled of some - that's a good thing and a sign it's healthy. Ram has changed the logic of how and when these fans actuate. They keep the eng cooler and temp more consistent. You will also find your AC works better and has an easier life (lower pressures) during stop and go traffic. Yes, because that fan can move so much air (way more than any electric), it takes a lot of HP. The one for my diesel pulls 23 HP. Other than the HP loss, everything about that new clutch is positive. Scott- My buddy, who is a good mechanic told me the same thing, sounds like a healthy fan clutch...still, my old fan clutch was quieter and my truck had a lot more power, even pulling my truck up from Southern California to San Francisco.

Loss of Power after New Fan Clutch

Hello Everyone, I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 and it blew the water pump and fan clutch at the campsite. Got it towed to a auto repair store in San Diego and they replaced the fan clutch, water pump, and thermostat. Since they replaced everything, I noticed that new the fan clutch is unusually loud and tends to stay on a lot (yes, it was a very warm day in Southern California). The fan clutch seems to be matched to my throttle acceleration...meaning the fan clutch roars more with when I apply the gas pedal. Going up into the mountains where I lived, I noticed a significant loss of power..I really had to floor it to maintain 40mph when I could easily do 50mph before. I hate towing my trailer now and the new fan clutch engages a lot. Ive owned this truck for three years now, and it ran great, never even noticed the fan clutch before. I read that there are thermal and non thermal fan clutches? Do you think they put in the wrong fan clutch? Looking for some advice. Thanks in Advance

RE: Best/Favorite RV Resort

Cal is great for camping but the speed limit blows and so does your fuel prices. Left Oregon a month or so and paid 3.29 for diesel and got to CA and it was 4.19. Add to the fact that everywhere is packed to the gills it's just not worth going there anymore. Sure we'll go back but not this year. The official speed limit towing in California is 55 but its more like 70. Yes, our gas prices suck! You can still find lots of places to go camping in the summer and the winter. In the winter, we go camping in the desert (Death Valley, etc) and in the summer, its the Sierras (yes, there are plenty of places in the Sierras that you can get even without an advanced reservation). I work for the Navy and I often camp in San Diego when I go in for work but I live up here by Big Bear. I get the best of both worlds! How many other people can say that they can be in the mountains and down at the beach in just over hours??? Also, California has a bad reputation as being a "police state" and lots of crazy, insane people...well kinda. However, when you go camping, you run into many more like minded, good hearted people who love to camp and enjoy the outdoors, just like everyone else. Just my two cents.

RE: Best/Favorite RV Resort

Hey Jonas, Born in Boston, Red Sox fan - American League. And, Brooklyn Dodgers fan - National League. Moved to SFV 1956, became LA Dodgers fan ... Fan of both teams!!! So, what did we do when Dodgers played Red Sox in WS? HA HA Root for good games and didn't care who won. Magic Nights. Trust me, we would love to see a Red Sox game in Boston one day! BTW, we love watching the Padres play at Petco Park but it doesnt matter if the Dodgers are playing in Oakland, Anaheim, San Diego...Dodgers fans will always outnumber the home team fans, except maybe in San Francisco. Still, Petco Park is a great place to watch a game.

RE: Best/Favorite RV Resort

My favorite campgrounds are around Zion National Park, Utah..Bryce Canyon National Park is amazing as well. I love Arizona, Nevada as well but why stop there? Come to California and you will be amazed...Yosemite, The Central Coast(Avilla, Pismo, etc), The Sierras, even Half Moon Bay (40 minutes from San Francisco) are phenomenal. San Diego is nice too...you can camp at Mission Bay RV Park or Campland on the Bay and catch a Uber to downtown San Diego, even see a baseball game at beautiful Petco Park (I'm a Dodgers Fan)...great experience. BTW, I was born and raised in Florida...I know Florida like the back of my hand but there is no comparison to camping in California. Yes, the gas is expensive out here but it is well worth it.

RE: NorCal Fridge wont run on AC

OK, I feel like an idiot. I removed the cover and realized that the fridge was not plugged into the AC receptacle. I kept looking for the plug but it was run way up on top and took a little while before I was able to get my hand around the end and bring it back down to get plugged in. Thank you so much for all your help.

RE: Must Have Boondocking Items?

Ive seen a 12 guage or handguns mentioned a couple of times. Probably will never need but it sure does help you sleep better at night.

RE: Best State for Camping

Believe it or not, many of us here in Southern California are exercising are constitutional rights. I think I know what you are getting at, and yes, many of us have permits. OK, gas is expensive but you get used it. I have been out here since I left the military, and I still love it.

Best State for Camping

For me, hands down, California is the best state for camping. Why? Beautiful beaches! (San Diego, Orange County, the Central Coast, Pismo, etc...) Beautiful Mountains! (The Sierras, Tahoe, Big Bear, etc..) Beautiful Deserts (Death Valley, Glamis, Dumont Dunes, etc..) Beautiful Interior parks ( Yosemite, etc..). Its a crazy state yes, but I still love camping here. In a few weeks, we will be camping in Mission Bay, and watching a Dodgers/ Padres game at Petco park.

NorCal Fridge wont run on AC

Hi Everyone, Just bought a new 2021 Coachman Catalina and I am waiting to get it back in the shop for some warranty work. In the meantime, it has a Norcal fridge, with only one button on the front. The Fridge runs on propane, but it does not get cold on AC. The fridge light opens when I open the door so its getting AC. I have turned the Fridge off, with AC plugged in and then turned it back on numerous times, and still it does not get cold. A red light will eventually come on, telling me that there is an issue. Any suggestions on what to look for? It's going to be another 3 weeks before I can take it in. Thanks in advance, Jonathan

RE: Real life Hybrid towing experiences

I towed a 3000 lb hybrid Kiwi trailer with a 2003 Honda Pilot 4wd. It was a great towing experience, even though I was extremely hard on the Pilot. It did everything I asked of it, and more.

RE: LED Awning Light Strip Does not work on Brand New Trailer

A friend had a similar issue, the LED’s were obviously installed by someone who doesn’t know they are polarity sensitive. I reversed the positive & negative and they worked just fine. Are you talking about on the little 4 pin connector or this something else?

RE: LED Awning Light Strip Does not work on Brand New Trailer

I can't believe you took possession before it was fixed. I wanted to go camping and I figured it would be an easy fix.

LED Awning Light Strip Does not work on Brand New Trailer

Just bought a brand new 2021 Coachman Catalina 263BHSCK. Upon PDI inspection, I noticed that the LED light strip would not come on (yes, I had the exterior light button in the on position). I cant believe my dealer did not have this fixed before I picked it up. Anyway, I took the trailer home and there does not appear to be a fuse behind the control panel inside. I checked the connection on the right side of the awning where the LED light strip plugs into DC power by the awning and it was very lose (little 4 pin connection). One pin looked bent so I straightened it and plugged it back in. When I turn on the exterior lights now, the LED awning light strip flickers once briefly and turns back off. Any suggestions? Yes, the dealer can fix it but its going to take weeks before they can get me back in because I am having some other stuff done. Thanks in advance!
