RE: ac maintaniance

As others have said - clean the drip holes in the drain pan located under evaporator. If your going up to remove the shroud you might consider spending additional time and clean the evaporator coils - they tend to be ignored by many/most because they are hidden by a metal shroud (which requires removing a dozen or so screws). A clean evaporator will improve the overall performance of the air conditioner. Another possibility is that the air conditioner gasket is old or needs to be tightened. Lots of threads on how to do that - but don't over tighten the gasket. Hope this helps.

RE: Life of AC?

Life of AC may depend on how it was treated. My 91 is working fine ... I did add a hard start capacitor when it was about 18 years old. If AC is like most things - older units probably have greater life than newer units ... but I have never heard anyone say that life of newer units is 3-5 years. As others have said running AC on low voltage will create issues.

RE: Onan Genset Spark Arrestor Cleaning

For what it's worth - many generators do fine with little/no maintenance of the spark arrestor. I never could get my spark arrestor removed for cleaning and my generator works fine (and my rig is 91)

RE: How many miles a day can we go?

When I first got my RV I used to travel from Portland Or to Los Angeles often ... about 1,000 miles. I made that trip in two days with no problem (with two young kids and wife who didn't want to drive the RV). I found that leaving very early was helpful. Things changed as I got older - my two day trip is now 3 days.

RE: RVing with no mechanical capability

Many/most RV repairs are pretty simple and with a little guidance from people on this/other forums can be handled by almost anyone. As others have said you can always hire someone to perform the repairs

RE: Onan Emerald 4000

I would start with the basics - clean all the battery grounds as well as the generator ground - clean/tighten the battery connectors - and make sure the batteries are fully charged. After that - start your engine which will put your chassis and house batteries into parallel mode and then try and start your generator using the start button on the generator.

RE: House/Chassis Battery Charging Issue

If your referring to a Trik L Start an easy way to determine whether it's working is to turn on your headlights for a few minutes - that should deplete your chassis battery sufficient to kick on the charging light of the Trik L Start. Trik L Start Instructions

RE: Road trip Portland OR to Las Vegas

I suspect if you wait a few weeks you can get that interview near your home.

RE: Registering an out of state RV in CA?

As far as registering I would talk with someone at DMV and if Calif is like Oregon there likely closed because of the pandemic. Buying any vehicle from 1977 will likely require extensive attention/repair and if your looking to RV vs have a project I would look elsewhere. Just my 02.

RE: Resealing the Edge of the Roof, Dicor, Eternabond, or Both?

I elected to use Eternabond along all the edges in my Class C many years ago - my 91 is still leak free. When you apply eternabond pay attention to the "prep" work as it requires a clean surface to properly bond. You should remove the loose caulk ... if you elected to remove all the caulk (not mandatory) I would recommend that you use an oscillating tool with a special caulk remover blade (rounded flexible blade that isn't sharp and won't harm roof membrane).

RE: The latest on Oregon State Parks

A smart state you live in, taking this pandemic serious. With an average of 130 new infections daily, you sure would hate to be one of them. Other states are not taking this serious enough, and they might pay a high price for that. Not sure how smart it is to keep a states economy shut down when you have an overall population of 4.2 million, and you are having an average of 130 new infections per day. I guess the only solution is to keep everything closed forever. Agree 100%. The potential for contracting or spreading the virus in a campground when you follow the CDC guidelines for hygiene and distancing is next to nil. Here in SC we have had 177 deaths which while tragic for the families is a rounding error on a rounding error when compared to the total population. We have thousands of people out of work, hundreds of businesses teetering on closing permanently, so in many cases the cure is worse than the disease. I think that the Oregon Park shutdown had more to do with the concerns expressed by the small communities near the parks and their lack of medical facilities than camper to camper contagion within the Park. The small communities just don't want the influx of campers/visitors - some of the beach communities actually have signs that tell visitors to stay away.

They kept the gun stores open here but closed the gun ranges - go figure.

RE: New Cell Phone Choice

I have started a similar search because my S8 screen has cracked twice and I need to find something less expensive and more durable. I think the move towards tiny bevels is the root cause. Currently considering an unlocked Samsung a50 - inexpensive, hot spot, long battery, decent camera ... but not waterproof.

RE: Forest Service closes all camp grounds in OR - Sept. 30th

I few weeks ago I got a letter from the Oregon State Parks explaining why they closed - one of the logics behind their move was their desire to keep campers from infecting the small communities near the parks. Those small communities have very limited medical facilities and would be easily overwhelmed by the virus. Kinda made sense to me and in the big picture closure is just an inconvenience and if it helps contain the virus then so be it.

RE: Cold Weather & De-winterized RV

I use a thermo cube connected to an electric heater. The Thermo Cube is a Thermostatically Controlled Double Outlet that plugs into any of your 120 outlets - it will turn on your electric heater when the temp gets close to freezing. Inexpensive way to protect your rig.

RE: NE Oregon to Indianapolis Sept 2021

If you have the time consider spending time at Yellowstone Natl Park, Rushmore, & Devils Tower. Lots of stuff in that area of the country.

RE: Water filters

Might consider one of the gravity filters that campers use - plenty to choose from - Katadyn makes an 8 liter one that sells for about $100.

RE: Converter charging circuit

Also - check for auto reset circuit breaker near your battery (google because they don't look like typical circuit breaker) - when they go toes up it essentially takes your battery off-line.
