RE: Via 25T Mercedes Diesel

Success!!! Update on my travels with the motorhome. As a first timer driving the coach it was so easy. I took my time going over the mountain and only dropped it down to 4 from D, rpms never over 3000. Heck, didn't even hold anyone up. Thanks for the advice as I will be doing it again at the end of the season.

RE: Via 25T Mercedes Diesel

Hmmm....the mountain does have some 10MPH switch backs. I will take it easy and go just one gear down and watch the rpms. Our dodge dually has only 1 and 2 and that was the reason I go to 2. I will probably be getting a good cussing going slow but that's okay because I won't hear them...lol. Thanks all!

RE: Via 25T Mercedes Diesel

Is this a floor shift? If so try tapping the shifter left or right.
Thanks, just got back in and once the shifter is in D and then tap to the left and it goes throught 4-1 and back to right and can get it back to D. So I guess I will put it in 2nd going down the mountain. Thanks again for the responses...safe travels!

RE: Via 25T Mercedes Diesel

Ask your friend
I wish my friend knew...she has never driven the coach out on the road. Long story short but her husband can no longer drive it. I did notice a plus by the D but not sure what that means or how to get to that. Guess will need to pull out the manuals...ugh... Thanks...

Via 25T Mercedes Diesel

I am driving a friends motorhome to NC next week. I picked rv up today and brought it home and was looking at it and I don't see a 1st or 2nd gear to shift to when coming down a steep grade. I sure don't want the brakes to get hot going over the mountain. The mountain I speak of is going from Helen, GA to Hiawassee, GA. I have traveled it many times but not in an motorhome, usually in a dually so I shift down to 2nd coming down the mountain. She is too chicken to drive it up there so I volunteered..lol! Thanks in advance...

RE: Travel through Atlanta

The last time we went through Atlanta on I75 headed toward Tennessee it was crazy. I timed it so we would be going through about 2AM, geeze those people don't ever go to sleep. I couldn't believe how much traffic there was for the wee hours of the morning. Haven't been that way since...lol!

RE: fridge blowing out

We had major problems with our refrigerator while traveling, so aggravating. It worked great sitting in the yard. Finally, we used some rv oven outside vents and aluminum sheeting. We made a little bridge over our TC vents using the aluminum sheeting and bridging it over our fridge vents. The rv oven vents helped keep the alumiumn sheeting off of our regular fridge vent. Of course the top and bottom of the aluminum sheeting was open so it still had chimney effect. It still works great today. That was the last straw before selling our TC. It fixed it so we still have our TC.

RE: Is it common to remove your truck camper at your camp spot?

I like keeping the TC on the truck. We like having our facilities with us all the time, especially me. Usually we put camper on the truck in November or December and take it off around April. I love it for daycations and short trips.

RE: Is it smart to Register a 5th wheel in Maine

We have rv in NC, it's registered in Fl but that is where we live. It's not moving so I didn't even buy a florida tag for it this year. When we sell it will have a florida title that doesn't need to be notorized. NC DMV wanted to know if we were 6 and 6 meaning 6 months there and 6 months here. It got complicated so we said ok make it simple and we did.

RE: Not for us

At least you now know what you know. We lease a seasonal site in NC but we do own the rv up there but after a month we do enjoy coming home to our nest. 9 hour drive and we are there or home. Good Luck!

RE: Garmin 890 GPS unit ?

We like the Garmin DriveSmart. I am not sure of the model but I like being able to talk to it and it has lifetime updates and bluetooth.

RE: Coach Net, great service !!

We have CN and glad to hear good things. Heard lots of bad things about others so hopefully it's not needed but if so, hopefully we have our butt covered.

RE: Finding a TT that does not have Bunkhouse

We have same dilemma with our camper on our site in NC. Our seasonal site has a BH but we are seriously considering turning it into a big pantry and storage area. Our advantage is that we will never tow it off the site. We have a couch and table to convert to a sleeping area if needed. Hopefully not needed, lol!
