RE: 2011 Ram HD 3500 DRW Cummins 68RFE 523k miles!

98 dodge we had with very poor brakes. solo or towing didn't know which direction the truck was going left or right when stopping. Might just be ours. chevman True! But there things that can be done like removing the proportioning valve for the rear brakes along with changing to 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" rear GM wheel cylinders. Forget what size. Or change to EGR rear disk kit as I did on my 98 after doing the other options. You really don't want to just increase the size of wheel cylinders. I know this is a common mod and shops suggest it all the time but you will actually get worse braking if that's all you do. If you made this mod and did get better brakes, it was because you changed out the factory pads (Dodge pads get less effective over time) or it was just because it got a good bleeding. I just know what I did made a difference along with many on the TDR at the time. The Proportioning valve removal for sure did the most. Was not an issue with the rear antilock braking. I did the GM switch. 2001 3500 chev dually. Brake issue solved and one more gear in the trannie. chevman

RE: Electric black tank dump valve. Worth it?

simple is better and also why I like our 05 truck. Install the valve at the end where the cap is on for travelling and problem is solved. simple job. chevman

RE: Ram 3500 MPG test

"there doesn't seem to be a stinker in the group." I concur. I agree... But there's also One that stands out from the group! Let's see after some time and a few miles... ;) At 7.5 years here's where I'm at! What about yours? I believe it was 2003 when Dodge has issues with the Dana rear gear. Nothing is perfect . Chevman https://i.imgur.com/qOFP9Otl.jpg My truck gets used as a daily driver and essentially gets driven every day. I'm talking about the "new" 2020 Powerstroke. Ford has a history of having a few "glitches" with new diesel releases..... ;) I lived it first hand with my 2003.

RE: Suggest a TPMS.

I had this happen to me. The bolt (3/8 by 3 inches) was picked up on the highway. https://i.imgur.com/d9VweBll.jpg My TMPS was showing a slow loss of pressure. I was on I40 going toward Kingman AZ. A very busy highway with a lot of truck traffic. Not a good place to replace a tire on a 5th wheel on the side of the road.. I was able to make the next exit while still having good tire pressure but I am sure if I had continued without knowing I had a tire in trouble the tire and possibly part of my trailer would have been destroyed. But more important I was able to safely get off a very busy freeway and find some shade to install a spare tire in 100+ degree Arizona temperatures. Exactly why we have the TST. chevman

RE: Ram 3500 MPG test

I can't imagine doing that for mileage checks. If the filler tube shows fuel after the 2nd hit the tank is full. Chevman

RE: Water Heater Relief Device

Several years ago when we were back from the winter I removed the relief valve and soaked it in vinagar for 2 days. Looked new and no leaks. Had many old timers not know about the air chamber. Thermostat can make water too hot and valve will drop. Chevman

RE: 100K miles - what maintenance?

It is a want not always a need. I traded a great truck will a want only not a need. Lots of so called million mile trucks are traded for the want reason. Ok I think Chevman

RE: 2020 IKE raw and unedited

Cummins makes engines. Cummins doesn't make Trucks. Ford and Gm make a ton of engines for their products. Ram uses Cummins because they are good. Makes ram owners brag but ok. Chevman

RE: 2020 Cummins IKE pull

I was wondering when I saw the engine temperture at 217 degrees in a cold day what would it be during the summer months? Fun to watch all 3 but better on the same day testing. chevman

RE: Auxiliary fuel tank?

we bought our truck to tow. 55 gallon inbed tank has been an awesome advangtage so we can fuel up where we want to. Custom tank to fit the space. My thinking was to get the aux tank when the truck was new to get the best use of the money spent. chevman

RE: Duramax vs Power Stroke Fuel Economy Tow Test and Drag Race

Why does FCA not want to test at the same time as ford and Gm? chevman I don't think it is a matter of Ram not wanting to test as the same time as it is just getting a truck scheduled at the same time. Several years ago these guys did a few videos on what it takes to get these loaner test vehicles and it is a long and arduous process. It is not something you can just phone up someone and say you want a truck to test and it is done. These vehicles are shared by regions and you have to wait until the previous tester is done with it. Thanks for your answer. Just seems like it would be nice to test on the same conditions. Fun stuff to read. chevman
