RE: Thousand Trails New Membership

I plan on springing for it next year. Too many disney trips and places allready booked that were hold overs from last year. I dont go out often, but do at least 5 one week trips. And the campgrounds are in places i want to go. Worth it to try it, if you will use it. If its close to break even, i wouldn't bother.
I like the TT Orlando park- nice and convenient for Disney. Add in Trails Collection and it opens up 3 more parks very close to Disney.
In New Jersey, Sea Pines is our favorite park. We've driven through Lake and Shore but never stayed.
In Pennsylvania, Hershey is one of the nicest parks in the system. Gettysburg Farm is decent. Circle M isn't my favorite, but we've actually spent quite a lot of time there.

RE: Thousand Trails New Membership

I'm interested in TC+, but not at $615 per year. However, I fear the current TC program will be phased out soon - 2-3 years.
And the $16,000 upgrade cost is the highest ever in TT history I think.
Yeah, I talked with a sales rep this morning. It does sound like they'll deal a bit on the buy-in price even from what's advertised.
I don't think $615 for TC+ is that terrible. It pays for itself in just a single 2-week stay, never mind a 3-week stay.
The TC+ is about the main reason why I would consider upgrading. It would help with our Florida wintering and let us travel up the coast a bit more.

The good, I feel less bad just giving it away and buying a decent mattress that suits me well.

Thousand Trails New Membership

Has anyone been following the new Thousand Trails membership offering? I'm less interested in the membership as I am the new "Trails Collection Plus" program. We use the TC add-on a lot and am really interested in the longer stays (21 days vs. 14), longer booking window (90 days vs. 60), and ability to go from one TC park directly to another.
(No, I am not affiliated with Thousand Trails.)

RE: Drip

Its cold and rainy here in AZ for a few days and I will crawl around under it soon and try to find the source of the drip.
You may know this, but since it's been cold- mind the working temperature of whatever solution you come up with. Sometimes you'll have to wait for things to warm up before you can use different products.

It’s very likely a HappiJac bed lift. I would reach out to them for assistance.

RE: FLKeys suggestions

We stayed at this great resort.
Bluewater Key
We’ve gone here twice as a family of 4. It’s stupidly expensive but oh so wonderful.
Oh and we did Key West at all hours of the day (same with Las Vegas and other “adult” towns). We treat it as openers for frank discussions. Key West was great from the “be who you are, as long as you’re happy” discussions.

I didn't see Campendium mentioned. That's been my favorite for a while.

RE: Slide topper noise dampening

Back to the OP's question of noise dampening of rain. I would say it does help though I've only had them. Here's my anecdotal evidence...
Our first fifth wheel had us sleeping in a bedroom slide out, so the roof was only 2-3' above our heads. We were camping with friends who had the same kind of bed setup. They complained one morning of the rain keeping them awake and asked how we faired. We knew it was raining but didn't notice the sound. I always assumed it was the slide toppers.

RE: FLEXIBLE FRESH WATER HOSE

I wonder how long the Zero G hose will last in full time use?
Just fine. I want to say that mine were 2-3 years old when we stopped fulltiming. Hoses were fine.

RE: Wall mount electric heater

Gdetrailer, thanks for the info. I did go ahead and buy the replacement T8 bulbs from Lowes. About $20 for a pack of 2 and the light in our kitchen is soooo much improved.
And now, back to the original point of this thread... which was something.

RE: What is the best way to deal with snail mail?

There are several mail forwarding companies in Florida that work well for full and part-time RV'ers. Since you plan to end up in Florida anyway, establishing your domicile there now would make things like vehicle licensing and insuring a little easier later on. One of the more popular services is "St. Brendan’s Isle"
The suggestions of reducing the amount of physical mail is a good one. But you can't eliminate it and you'll need somewhere to establish your residency/domicile. I've used St. Brendan's Isle for the past 5 years and highly recommend them.
Let the collect your mail. They'll scan envelopes which usually gives you a good indication of what things are. Anything that you need right away, they can scan. And then every so often (for us, it was about every 45-60 days), we would have them mail a package of our mail to us.

RE: Wall mount electric heater

I went with a lot of T12 40W per tube 4ft fluorescent fixtures back then, over the last 5 yrs have been converting all of my fixtures to T8 18W LED retrofit bulbs.. less than half the wattage and not quite 3 times the brightness..
Thanks for that kick in the pants. I just went looking for replacement bulbs for the kitchen of my new house. Found that at the local Lowes and they're not very expensive.

RE: Lighting fixtures Forest River 5er

Is there any chance that you can post a photo of what they look like?
If they're small round disks, there are 2 possibilities:
1, you have to rotate it until there's an opening in the lip and then pull down
2, just pull hard

I don't get the joke? Is this your family? Or...?
Looking at the picnic table, I think the photo is off kilter, not the RV.

RE: Towing Advice

Since you have the rig already, next time out (fully loaded ready for camping), swing by a CAT scale and get the real weights. Take the time to get 3 weights:
- Hitched with the WDH connected.
- Hitched with the WDH disconnected.
- Unhitched just the truck.
The compare that to the weight ratings to see where you really stand.
For HydrogenCyanide, here's a write-up about getting these 3 weights and what to compare them against from a ratings perspective:

RE: Disney World 12/21

I didn’t like the lack of privacy in the full hookup sites. I always opted for the premiums because I felt like you got some shrubbery between you and the neighbor. But, don’t let me oversell it... it’s not a lot!
And honestly for getting holiday season reservations at the Fort, I just use a travel agent. Doesn’t cost me anything and they do the grunt work. I have a couple of anyone wants the recommendation.

RE: Turlock California to Orlando FL in 12/21

We made that basic drive back in January 2015. We went from Jamul (outside of San Diego) to Seffner (outside of Tampa). We took I-10 the whole way.
Here's the route mapped out on Google Maps. I did it from memory and I think it's missing a Harvest Hosts stop outside of Tucson.
We didn't have any weather issues others than a couple of colder nights. Tucson was the coldest and we were poorly prepared for boondocking leading to a comedy of errors.

RE: Disney World 12/21

As mentioned, Disney's Fort Wilderness is a beautiful campground. We have stayed there a handful of times. It's quite expensive, though.
Here's an older write-up about it:
https://learntorv.com/camping-at-disney-world-fort-wilderness/
As for driving down to the Keys, we like to go down to Miami first for a night or two. We have always stayed at Larry & Penny county park. It's nice and has decent spots. It's right behind the Zoo and you'll occasionally hear the lions roar. We do that so we're fresh and awake for the drive down through the keys and are able to arrive at our campground there earlier in the day.
In the Keys, we've only stayed at Bluewater Key resort. It's absolute luxury (with a price to go with it!). Be aware that December is considered peak season in the Keys and pricing reflects it.
