RE: Dealing with campground reservations

We just returned from a 7 week trip to the Southwest. I am a planner so reservations were made for all but 8 days of the trip. I build in some “float” days on weekdays both going and coming home. We just them to spend extra time at several places in both directions that we liked. All of our major destinations had full campgrounds - Big Bend NP, Tucson, Carlsbad, NM, Joshua Tree NP, San Diego, Phoenix area, and Grand Canyon NP. Even before COVID, between the increase in retirees camping and people home schooling their children, campgrounds were crowded mid week. It has gotten worse! We did a 4.5 month trip to Alaska 2 summers ago and all the major destination campgrounds were full then.

RE: Rec Pro RV furniture

We bought a non powered loveseat with 2 reclining seating. It is a cloth upholstery and still looks good after 2 years of use. The recliners work in a fairly tight space. We didn’t have the space for a middle section with cup holders. We are pleased with the purchase and they were easy to install.

RE: Rear Deck System Worth It?

We have a XLR Toy Hauler with a screen that pulls down when the ramp is down. I thought it was a neat feature that we would use often. We have used it twice in 9 years. Most campsites are not deep enough to make it practical. I think you would find the same with a rear deck.

RE: Diesel Fuel Availability

We did the trip in 2019 with a Dodge 2500 pulling a 9,500 lb toy hauler trailer. I added a 30 gallon aux tank in the bed to give me 66 gallons of diesel. We average about 14 mpg when towing. I spent 3 months in Canada and Alaska and was able to avoid very high diesel prices the entire trip except for 3 fuel stops. Diesel pricing in the US is much cheaper than Canada but with a 25% exchange advantage we averaged approximately $3.75 per gallon in Canada. The three expensive stops were unavoidable because of our route and not driving below 25% in tank. Enjoy your trip!

RE: Pigeon forge

Quiet is what we are looking for. With the carona going around We are not concerned with no public facilities. We live in the area. Be aware that Sevier County continues to have a significant COVID problem. Many visitors are not wearing masks or social distancing. Great Smoky Mt NP is large enough you can enjoy and be safe. Start early and go to less popular destinations.
