RE: Sangria Gelatin Ring

Sister had a themed dinner, where we'd bring a dish that was popular in our birth years. For 1952, I found this one, and it's magnificent. The original recipe used lemon Jell-O, but I couldn't find any, much less sugar-free, so I used lime and it was very Christmasy looking. It's a keeper, and we'll be serving it often. SANGRIA GELATIN RING 1-1/2 cups Sangria or sweet white wine 2 packages (.3 ounces each) lime, raspberry or cherry (or mixed flavors) sugar-free gelatin 2 cups club soda, chilled 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries 1/2 cup green grapes, halved Bring wine to a full boil. In a large heatproof bowl, add boiling wine to gelatin; stir 2 minutes to completely dissolve. Stir in chilled club soda. Refrigerate until thickened but not firm, about 45 minutes. Stir in berries and grapes. Pour into a 6-cup ring mold coated with cooking spray. Refrigerate until set, about 4 hours. Unmold onto a serving platter. If desired, place more berries in the center of the ring. Makes 10 servings. NUTRITION per serving: 117 Calories 16 total carbs 2 g fiber 6 g sugar (from the fruit) 1 g protein 52 g sodium This looks great. I'm going to try this one. I'm guessing the alcohol is evaporated off from boiling so it can congeal well.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Yes, any rain is good unless the house is floating away.:B I wonder what Czarny would do if you got some chickens?

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Our hummers have decreased in visits as well. I'm sure they all migrated farther south. Sorry the food wasn't up to snuff. Dog slobber is contamination in the view of our cats. They think its toxic waste.

RE: Clusters of dog diabetes in households-Dr. Doug et al

Don't know for sure. I read somewhere once that there might be a virus that contributes to diabetes. Don't know what the latest on that theory is though.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Poor Czarny; those pesky birds just keep getting bigger and bigger! Better not replay Hitchcock's "The Birds". Poor feller would need therapy after that. We have a German restaurant here but Herself is not keen. It's no longer open now because of COVID. We headed over to a mom and pop's tonight for steak and shrimp. Great to not have to cook tonight. Hoping we get your cooler weather here.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Glad you got some rain and the deer herd is on the increase. Deer here like our acorns. We've been going to local restaurants for about 2 months now. Everything is spaced out and the food just seems to taste better. We went out for pork chops and gravy last night. Nothing on tv. Saw they were televising cornhole championships. New one on me. Passed over it too. We've been going through our dvd collection and enjoying movies that you don't normally see anymore. Probably because they have John Wayne in them. He's not considered politically correct anymore.

RE: Anyone Mountain bike in Asheville-Pisgah?

I use Allstays campground finder. I cannot help you with mountain biking questions but if it were me I would do a search for Asheville mountain biking or call up the campground once I pick one out and ask them. Most of the campground office personnel I have asked have good info on the amenities of a nearby area.

RE: The sad part of pet ownership

I'm sorry about your sheltie. 12 good years is a respectable age. But it's never easy. Love her while you have her.

RE: Campground with RV sites and cabins

Double ditto re the state parks. Check them out. They are often less expensive and have more room between the campsites.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Sounds like a plan for the deer. Natural is always better. Don't know much about deer forage so what you've shared is new to me. Do they like clover in addition to rye grass?

RE: Laura evacuation.

Bottom line: if any category hurricane is predicted to impact your area, bug out, get out, evacuate, vamoose. Storm surge is a killer. The disasters of Harvey should still be fresh in the memories of Texans. The storm surge for Laura is expected to be at 20 feet in some areas. That's 14-15 feet above the average person's head. Did I mention that everyone should get out?

RE: Marco & Laura

Just remember. There's gators and water moccassins in that part of the US and they tend to get displaced by bad storms. Watch yourselves and your pets. A gator can outrun a dog.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Did you get that kibble? Hoping the twin storms don't do much damage either. Glad the move is done in essence. Breathing room for sure. Our animals are all getting their winter fur in early. May be a cold one this year. Time to go chop some wood for the wood stove.

RE: Recommendations on portable flat-top griddle

Camp Chef has modular stoves too. Their flat top grills are nice. Flat top grills. Personally I like to go the modular route instead of a specialized one-trick-pony appliance. I have a base stove (I have the Camp Chef Tahoe stove). Then I added the 3 burner griddle, the bbq box, plus my cast iron DOs work well on it too. That way I can interchange the components based on the kind of cooking I'll be doing. Not every accessory travels with me on every trip. I plan out the meals ahead of time so I can limit my cargo weight in the mh and maximize space. There's only one trip a year that everything goes in the mh and that's for the 4 day family renunion.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

My money's on the extra exercise. I don't use a CPAP so I can't give any advice. I know I wouldn't be happy having to wear one all night fo sho. Glad the move is on the move. Best wishes to your family in this effort.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Moving is rough stuff. I wish I had pool to soothe my back. I have a heating pad. LOL. Downsizing duplicate kitchen items makes for a good yard sale. Never had a Foreman grill. Furniture and kitchen items seem to sell fastest in our neck of the woods.
