RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Rudy acts like he might have some vision problems so he's reluctant. He might also have a little PTSD from his former life. We've had dogs like that. Our weather's been pretty decent but there's storms headed our way.

Yep. Everyone's covered it. Welcome to the Cast Iron Chef club.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

I'm wondering about the butter too. What's up with people? When it rains our cats shrug their shoulders and take over the bed. Or conduct a couch coup d'état. I'm with you on the tourists. I see where the governor of Rhode Island is having their enforcement stop cars with New York plates and making them quarantine. I don't blame her.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

It's getting mean out there. We're glad you get to go to the senior hours. We go every chance we can to avoid the crazy angry going on. From what you describe Costco is doing a better job of cleaning their equipment than some emergency rooms I've been to. "Let's be careful out there". Esterhaus.

The CDC, John Hopkins, Oxford, and even New York City and a lot of others are taking HCQ and Azithromycin seriously. Lots of medical trials have begun already. There are several first hand patients that are telling of their own success. No one is saying it's the silver bullet but their is no room to not take is seriously. CDC John Hopkins Oxford and New York City Additionally, some New York patients are receiving vitamin C intravenously to improve their ability to recover. Link As more people are tested, more are identified. Each surge reflects the availability of the tests and their results coming back. There are also people who have not been tested, are asymptomatic, but are carriers. That's why it's a good idea to self isolate. The person standing next to you may not be coughing or sneezing but they can still be carriers.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Glad to hear that April 4th is magic day. Funny how some are happiest when they're worried. You should video the boys first encounter of the stair kind.

You have a fantastic sanctuary there. You're pretty blessed. Rudy reminds me of a relative of mine. He doesn't like change either.

RE: Army Corps Of Engineers Parks Are Closing?

Try the state parks. Some are staying open. There's a number of them in the same area as Gunter Hill. Here's a link to a map of them. Map of AL State Parks

RE: Reuben Casserole

Sounds like a great make-ahead dish if it tastes better the second day. When corned beef and swiss cheese are restocked I'll have to give it a try.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Yep-same here. We have milk, bread, eggs and booze in the stores. No tp, one package of paper towels. The store started putting beer and wine on the shelves that used to have the tp. I think they're trying to lighten the mood. Saw a lot of out of state cars in our Walmart parking lot. Someone said they rolled into town to do a tp grab so they can scalp customers. If that's what they're doing then that's just wrong. Glad to hear the fur-boys are okay and that your sister found what she wanted and quickly too. I'd say it couldn't have been planned better. Two more planks to do. I stopped at 1830. Will put in the last two tomorrow. I'm getting too old for this.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Roger that about feeling the age. Finished pulling up the decayed decking. Still working on putting in the new planks. It's good that the FW can be useful for your mom. We use our mh as a tiny home for visiting family. I'm hearing about people buying up older TTs and fixing them up as tiny homes. Whatever works. Semper Gumby indeed.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

It's always great getting a good contractor willing to work. That and a reliable septic guy. And electric and plumbing guy. We're going to have to replace part of our deck. I started pulling up decking today. When the new planks are installed I'll put some of that protective coating on it from HD. Our dog and cat have been trading spots on the bed. We end up pretzeled and sore by 2 am. Both have their own beds but they see us as the pack leaders so its imperative they sleep with us. According to them. :R

RE: Tims Ford SP to St. Louis, via Vogel SP

Vogel SP has both water and electric. No sewer, just a dump station. You should be able to fit in just about every rv site there. Word of caution: some of the COVID 19 patients will be under quarantine/housed in trailers in a GA St. Pk. Don't recall which one so call Vogel and find out if it's them.

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Good to see you posting again, WL. We were missing the Felidae and Cervidae updates. Wish your mom happy birthday from the forum. 95 is quite a respectable age. Glad you postponed that trip to keep your mom healthy. The deck sounds nice. I hope you get to use it frequently before the Texas heat hits. We like to keep a supply ready for at least 8 months of emergency situations. Plenty of SPAM and tp along with dog food. We also have water filters should they be necessary. Military preparedness trained us too. Keep us posted. You've been missed.

RE: Fish Chowder

My father made a fish stew. Simpler, but very yummy Bacon sliced into 1/4" wide pieces. Brown that Dice onion to taste and add 2 lb. haddock, diced in 1/2" pieces. 1 cup diced potatoes. Add fish, cover with water. Dice celery to taste and add. This makes the stew be sure not to be boiling. Stir in milk. 2 cups whole milk. Keep at low temperature for a good 20 miniutes. Actually, I find a day in the fridge enhances the flavour. Above quantities will make 4 servings. :B This is pretty close to mine. I do use shrimp, clams or scallops instead of fish. I also add about 1 1/2 Tbsp of real butter. Cook on low and add the shellfish last. If I don’t have whole milk I use evaporated whole milk.

A little more involved than my usual recipes I make in the DO but found this one and decided to give a try. It's a keeper. Corn and Poblano Soup

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Glad that SF is finally able to get some much needed rest. Rehab helps both of them. Glad to hear that Leoghaire is still there and the Dynamic Duo are doing well. We don't have any COVID-19 concerns. We just have our normal stock of stuff that we have in case we're snowed in. SOS tastes good on cold days.

RE: New River Gorge WV: Recommend best big rig friendly

Allstays is pretty comprehensive, listing Corps of Engineers sites. It also lists reviews for various campgrounds. Call those cgs listed to see if they have sites that can accommodate your rig. My brother and his wife stayed at ACE Adventure Center Campground and enjoyed it. They have pull-throughs. Here's the Allstays listing for Summersville. Summersville Here's the zoomable state map so you can expand your search. I see several very close to the New River Gorge. Map

RE: Winter camping...

Don't forget to get a no-freeze waterhose for you shoreline. It made all the difference in the world for our winter camping. Here's one that we bought: NoFreeze Water Hose. They also have no freeze waste hose attachments.
