RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' Legacy

Glad to hear SU is not giving up. Sorry to hear about Tall Friend. It’s hard but I hope you all keep trying to find something that will get him going again. Sometimes it does click in. Our deep fried turkeys are nothing but bones in the freezer to make stock later. We had no leftovers not even mashed potatoes to make potato pancakes. Had to dig into my emergency stash of Cousin Ts pancake mix to make breakfast the next day. The pantry was bare like Mother Hubbard’s. Waited until today to go to the store for restock. There was no way we were going on Black Friday. News said cars were lined up out to the street to get into parking lots yesterday. Today was back to normal. 300+ later and pantry is restocked. There’s another couple of supply trips but the haggis for Hogmanay is ordered and will arrive on time. Czarny’s a smart cat. He knows when to stay in. Looks like we have some storms headed our way.

RE: Slippery Doo Dah

'Tis the season for black ice. We had unexpected snow squalls last night which can create black ice in heartbeat. People just need to slow down. Exactly and even a little condensation on the roads mixed with the oily film from leaking vehicles is a problem. The latest problems are the speeding motorcycles dodging in and out of traffic. The kids driving them take some awful risks especially on winter roads. 6 motorcycle accidents in one week, all motorcyclists killed and 3 drivers put in the hospital who tried to avoid hitting the motorcyclists. Winter is here folks. Slow and steady for safety.

Slippery Doo Dah

Awakened to a thin layer of ice on our roads this morning. Nothing hardcore but enough to get the careless ditched. Winter wonders are wiley when we are driving. Let’s be careful out there.

RE: Good weekend site with full hookup

Is it for winter? CGs might be closed for winter. Have you tried looking at state parks on the map feature at Allstays? That’s where I’d start looking. Nebraska - state parks are marked with SP.

RE: Easy Corn Pudding - Camping

Last thanksgiving I made corn chowder from TH OLD MILL ain’t pigeon Forge. It turned out great. My mother and I loved it,but my kids and nephews hardly touched it. Yeah kids are different sometimes. Just made another double batch for a pot luck last week. The sweet Jiffy mix makes it tempting to our kiddos.

RE: Discount RV furniture source?

Specifically the jack-knife sofa or a lounge sofa. I've already gone the furniture store route and nothing's available that fits the space.

RE: Stowe Vermont this weekend things to do

We had a good time. Sat and visited with relatives, and went out and explored. Turns out... unless you are skiing, hiking, drinking, or eating... there is not a whole lot to do in Stowe! lol, yea yea, I know... there are some things to do. The center of Stowe is pretty cool, with some shops that are worth visiting. Not big, but cool. And also, remember that everything in Vermont is about 30 minutes away. Nice drives, but everything is spaced out. Sounds like my kind of place. I'm glad you had a good time.

RE: Stowe Vermont this weekend things to do

If a guest shows up at my place with a list of things to do that tells me they're just using my hospitality for convenience instead of visiting me. Not in my family. Having fun is part of the reason we visit each other. We don't have to sit staring each other in the face to have meaningful conversation. Our doors are always open to family and friends, even if it is just to borrow a bed for a night or two. It's called being a family. Every family has its own culture, rules and sensibilities. We choose to sit and have real conversations without distractions.

RE: Easy Corn Pudding - Camping

I have this same recipe, but modified by a friend a bit: Spread the sour cream on the top and cover with about a cup of grated cheddar cheese. You can also add a can of diced Ortega green chilis. Yep, you can do any number of additions for the flavors you want. I stick to the basic for the grandkids.

Georgia State Parks Improvements

We get the newsletter and there's some interesting improvements at the GSPs. All-Terrain Track Chairs for those who have mobility issues are now available at a number of GSPs. The list of the parks is in the link above. The FHU installations continue in their campgrounds. Red Top Mountain now has a number of FHU campsites available now. Ours is booked for our winter roamings.

Easy Corn Pudding - Camping

Here's a simple "dump and bake" corn pudding that can be made at camp. Or make at home then freeze and take with you. It can be defrosted and reheated in the mw. Easy Corn Pudding Ingredients • 1 (15 ounce) can creamed corn • 1 (15.25 ounce) can whole kernel corn • 1/4 pound (1 stick) butter, softened • 1 (8.5 ounce) package corn bread mix (I use Jiffy). • 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream (optional) (*Double everything for a crowd.) Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C ). Put butter in 2 quart casserole dish, place in oven until melted. 2. Remove casserole dish and add creamed corn, kernel corn, corn muffin mix and sour cream. Mix well, bake uncovered approximately 30 minutes *Doubled recipe takes 50 minutes to an hour.

RE: Stowe Vermont this weekend things to do

I'm more of a "go with the flow" kind of visitor. If my hosts want to just sit and chat I'll sit and chat. If they have plans I go along with that. The hosts are the ones I want to visit first and foremost. If a guest shows up at my place with a list of things to do that tells me they're just using my hospitality for convenience instead of visiting me.
