RE: Possibly upgrading from TT to Class A

my 5ver had 4 slides and 425 sq ft of room. So much storage we didn't use it all. We were 65' bumper to bumper with the truck. Now we are 55' bumper to bumper with the jeep. We have far less storage and find that a 38' MH gives about 35' of living area,We find the cockpit area to be useless, although you can turn the chairs around, it's too much of a pain to fool with. With three slides (one is full body) we have about 325 sq ft of room. Not to mention the learning curve of driving the MH,and the fact that my wife can't ride in the passenger seat. Too nervous riding in the window over the bumper. Just saying, be careful what you wish for. It might be the right move for you but it was certainly regrettable for us. Well, I had a '97 class c motor home. Traded it for a 5er with 4 slides, 1 1/2 bath, blah blah blah. I missed the "little" motor home the FIRST trip out in the 5er. Took WAY too long to get ready to go, WAY too long to set up. Wife & kids couldn't move around while in motion. Had the 5er 5 years, traded it in for a Class A. We'll never go back to a trailer.

RE: Connected to shore power

Mine's plugged in 24/7, if not plugged in, the genny's running.

RE: Diesel Pusher, side vs rear mount radiator

Mine is a rear mount on my Bounder. I've never had anything else, and it doesn't seem to bother me...….maybe I just don't know any better.lol

RE: I hate dinettes

We're 60 years old, 160ish lbs. When we were shopping for our moho, one of the prerequisites was a booth. We had booths in all of our other RVs and got talked into a table & chairs when we bought a new 5er. We hated the table & chairs for as long as we owned the 5er. Swore we'd never buy another RV without the "booth".

RE: Screwing into shower wall?

I mounted a couple of things in my shower. I just drilled small pilot holes and screwed the things to the wall. I "felt" the screws actually go into something solid (no, it wasn't wire or pipe either, lol) behind the plastic surround.

RE: Texas?!? I'm shocked.

I'm proud to be an Okie. OK did away with the state inspection in 1982 IIRC. OHP said they never investigated an accident that the "safety inspection" would have prevented.

RE: Chaser and Chasee

My wife and I decided we would not tow and she will drive the car,I’ll follow her. So far it seems to be working well for us. She drives a Kia Soul getting 35-37 miles a gallon and 10-10.5 with the class C. Just interested to see how many others go this route. I guess that means you're getting 45 MPG, lol.

RE: i got lucky

I'm sorry that your weekend didn't work out. Are there any other places you can go ? Even if they are further away or not as nice ? That being said: I'm a bachelor. When I see a post titled "I got lucky" I think of something else. lol Well......I had to check it out too.:B

RE: House Power Problem

Malexander , do you think it could be the inverter, even though it appears to be working properly? (Charging the batteries, clicking on and off with power source change, breaker switches working?) I'm really hoping to not buy an inverter right now. My savings account has taken some pretty big hits this month. If you've checked everything with a volt meter, (I had) and everything is checking normal, the inverter is really all that's left. My 12v lights would sort of "fade" in and out. I should say my CONverter/charger was bad. It bench checked just fine, ie 120VAC in and 14VDC out. But when a load was applied, was when things would go south.

RE: House Power Problem

I'm not sure if this is of any value or not. But, I was having an electrical issue in a 5er once. Dimming lights, some things not working, no power to a/c controls. I'm a licensed plumber & electrician, so do all my own maintenance and troubleshooting. My electrical problem turned out to be a "ghost" in the inverter, it "sort-of" worked some of the time. I replace it, and all the problems went away.

RE: So what's the deal with weight stations?

We used to go to our local grain elevator. Their scales had the "dial" right in the window, so even after closing time, we could see what we weighed.

RE: Williamsburg/Langley

Colonial Williamsburg is a full day trip just in itself. Very fascinating and interesting.

RE: Running the generator while driving

I live in Oklahoma City and go to Oshkosh, WI every year. It's a 2 day trip for me. I start the generator when I leave my house of a morning and don't shut if off till I'm set up in the campground the next day in the afternoon. I stop for the night somewhere about 2/3 of the way. Then do the same thing when headed home.

RE: Edmond, OK

I'm helping my son-in-law and daughter shop for a class c motor home. We went up there Saturday, shopped, found what they liked, the salesman was really cool. Then he introduced us to his sales "???" I don't remember. I happened to know this guy form 20 years ago when he was working in "another industry". I thought he was pretty shady then, so I'm not too sure about him now. We later found out some things about the motor home we were looking at, that they didn't disclose to us when we were looking. So, I'm sort of having some trust issues already.

RE: Long Driving Days: Class A vs. Trailer

In 2007 I traded my Class C Jayco for a new 5th wheel. I missed the motorhome the first trip out......and for the next 5 years. Then traded it for a class A gasser. Owned it for 2 years, sold it bought the current DP. Hands down, best decision ever. I love driving the DP, sort of hate stopping for the night. We go to Oshkosh every year, it's 985 miles from our house to the campground. We do it in a day and a half and I'm really not tired when we get there. I've said it before, I know Fleetwood is "entry-level" but when we bought ours, it was pouring down rain in Houston. Of ALL the coaches on PPL's lot (high-dollar ones included) this Bounder was the only one that wasn't dripping water SOMEWHERE inside.
