RE: 2 Years Without Changing Oil?

I have a Jeep Rubicon that gets driven roughly 1000K per year. Change the oil after Christmas every year and run non ethanol fuel. It's also a good idea to keep the fuel tank full to prevent rust. While vehicles manufactured several decades ago had mild steel tanks, these days the tanks are either plastic or stainless. There's nothing to rust. Also, there's always headspace in the tank - you can fill it all you want, but there's a few inches of air above that fuel to provide for expansion. When I replaced the fuel pump in our 2000 Four Winds on E-350 chassis, the tank was all stainless, and the filler inlet had an internal pipe that turned down into the tank. While the fill capacity was 55 gallons, I'd bet one could put 70 to 80 gallons in it from the fuel pump opening to completely fill the tank. Your comments reminded me of something: When filling up my E450 based Class C motorhome's gas tank, the station pumps always stop too soon. If I baby the fuel nozzle trigger very carefully and take another 5-7 minutes, I can trickle another 5-6 gallons into the "55" gallon fuel tank. Now I wonder - when I'm doing this - if I'm merely getting a true 55 gallons into the tank ... or more than 55 gallons? Sounds like foaming diesel. Not uncommon. If gasoline, you run the risk of overflow getting into the evap system and killing it prematurely.

RE: Future Used RV Market

The used vehicle market has never cared about an individual owners equity position. It's simply the number of units for sale relative to the number looking to purchase.

I’m glad it’s gone. Alien denier. I have it on good sources a caravan of Humvee's were sighted heading to area 51 from the site. Draw your own conclusions. Evidence of possible extra terrestrial encounters or perhaps hidden Trump ballots...discuss. :B

RE: settle an arguement

This forum is pretty good at losing sight of the forest for the trees. The short answer is one is not easier than the other for your question. There are differences and those will be personal in nature.

I am on the same page as just use liquid or solid tape. Or in a junction box if you are so inclined to redo the connection. And not to get lost in this debate. Correct what ever situation you have that allowed this damage in the first place.

RE: Website Q - SSL certificate?

Personally, I would elect to secure (encrypted) a website to avoid some of the issues mentioned. Are you using shared hosting? Fairly common these days to include either a universal or personal certificate with shared hosting plan. Since Chrome has now become the most used browser, you don't want your visitors to see the warning below? It suggests your site as being suspicious, and users will rarely bypass the warning to your site. Though should only appear if your site has fields that can pass potentially personal info unencrypted. If this warning does not appear, then I don't think many visitors even notice the URL flag as a Not Secure site. "border='1'" Another option if you want your site secured is to open a free account. Basically, all traffic is passed through its reverse proxy servers. Your webpages appear secured, and offers additional protection against hacker attacks as they won't have direct access to your website. However, traffic from to your site will still be unencrypted. That typically happens when a certificate is expired or has an installation issue. Not due to a non secure site. You can tell that looking at the address at the top is a https. So the error you posted is in reference to a improperly working ssl cert.

RE: Website Q - SSL certificate?

Google has adjusted its ranking for searches based on sites with or without SSL. While I agree with your thoughts. If you are hosting it for your own personal use, don't bother - at least I don't. Our business website wasn't SSL until recently as we hand off our sales to another site that did have SSL, but we were advised to make the change. Most hosts will do it for free depending on the level of service you are paying for. Agree, unless you are trying to improve your rankings or selling on the site wouldn't worry about it. With that said. Many hosts now offer SSL as part of the hosting package. So easy to do if you want to make the change.

RE: Maximum towing

Time is money with a semi and they seem to be OK with going slower up the hills. Why are we constantly in such a rush as an RV traveller.... Somehow over the course of the past decade or so. People seem to have equated towing capacity as the ability to maintain the speed limit over every hill/mountain imaginable. With the ability of going 0-60 in under 10 seconds. And let's not forget to ignore the dyno chart of the engines. Because even though it says maximum hp at 4,500 rpm you better never reach those revs.

RE: 2021 Ram TRX

One test article that I read summarized as a dedicated play toy, not much use for anything else, including a daily commute. Not sure how anyone would think otherwise. Not exactly a profound statement. It is a specialized vehicle. As far as a daily driver. If you can afford the fuel and the step in height it drives as good as any other truck for that purpose.

RE: Uconnect 8.4 default to bluetooth?

Okay Googled around and found this. 1. Sit in driver seat, doors closed, vehicle off. 2. Foot off the break, press start/stop button once to place vehicle in ACC mode. 3. Press the start/stop button twice to turn off vehicle. 4. Hold the Voice Recognition and Green Phone buttons on the steering wheel for 30 seconds, then let go. 5. Open the driver door for 30 seconds, or until the dash display cluster turns off - whichever comes first, then close the door. 6. Hold down the break pedal, and press the start/stop button to start the vehicle normally. After I did step 6, my Uconnect system quickly flashed through several screens including what looked like a dial pad and the text "enter anti-theft code" (?). It still started in FM radio, but when I pressed the Media icon, it immediately went to Bluetooth (whereas in the past, I would have to hit the down arrow then select Bluetooth). I restarted the vehicle normally again, and this time it went straight to Bluetooth. Let me know if you have any questions, or you can call Uconnect General Support here: They asked for the last 8 characters of my VIN and had me verify my name, address, and phone number (which I assume they got through RAM). Edit: The second guy asked for my address and email, then asked if I wanted to add my phone number, so I guess they weren't for verification, but to add to their records. Sounds like a sobriety test Or a reason to drink. Chicken or the egg scenario. :B

RE: What's the longest/heaviest you would tow with a 1/2 ton?

The new crop of Covid campers do not worry about ratings or payloads. They ran out and bought the longest, biggest trailer they could find or afford and most are pulling with 1/2 ton trucks along with a good amount of mid size SUVs thrown in for good measure. Surprisingly they all seem to make it to the campgrounds where they make noise until 2 AM, run over marker posts and fire rings while spending 2 hours learning how to back up, and try to build campfires with green wood which end up smoking out entire counties. They also have to have every exterior light on from dusk to dawn for some reason. Are you new to camping? None of what you described is new since the beginning of 2020.

What type of phone? That version should use wireless Carplay. Not sure about the Android auto function. Then you can just hit the Carplay icon instead of media.

RE: Gas station air/water station water safe?

I live in Southern California and all of the gas stations have air/water stations . The gas station attendant said the water should be potable because it’s just straight from the city water, but I think the black retractable water hose is suspect. I think it’s meant to fill up radiator water and not intended as drinking water. Does anyone know if it’s safe to put in your RV and use as drinking water? Does it taste terrible? Does it take any longer to fill? The spout is smaller than that of a hose bib. I cannot think of a water hose that did not come from a potable source. It is the proximity to a source that can cross contaminate the water that differentiates the use. So unless it states potable I would assume it does not comply with that jurisdictions requirements to qualify.

RE: What's the longest/heaviest you would tow with a 1/2 ton?

A bigger truck can hide a poor setup better than a smaller truck. If you were not comfortable with 5k pounds on that F150 you are probably better off going bigger on the truck.

RE: Fitness Watch??

The Physical Therapist my wife is seeing recommends she get a Smart Watch to track her walking distances and other health items.. She doesn't need a real Smart Watch but rather something basic.. I am looking at the Samsung Forerunner 35.. I have read the reviews on the watch but they all sound like they were written by an Advertising Agency rather than actual owners.. anyone care to comment on this particular watch? Thanks Travel Safe What is her or her doctors goals and what are the "other health" item she wants to target? The right tool can help with motivation but it is also important not to get something so complicated that she will never use it. All the major brands have something that should fit but try to narrow it down to what functions are important first.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

According to Tesla, its new racetrack star can do 0-60 mph in less than two seconds, will do a quarter-mile in under nine seconds, has a top speed of 200 mph, more than 1,100 horsepower, and a range of over 520 miles. " Plaid Model S , Elon Musk says will be "the fastest production vehicle ever." In what year? What will be the range at 200 mph? And at what cost? Seems just like the same marketing that Elon fans were complaining about from the other EV companies. Tesla Model S Plaid pre-order form Tesla Model S Plaid Vs Lucid Air: Range, Acceleration, Price Compared I see they still use the deceptive pricing on their order form. I just noticed Dodge is selling the Hellcat for $35k** **price does not include the $60k in fuel savings if you don’t drive it.

RE: Honda eco throttle switch

I believe you have stated that throttle control works correctly except for the eco switch not raising the engine idle speed, suggesting that there's nothing wrong with the throttle motor or carb. With the inverter module being potted, any repair would be close to impossible. Certainly infeasible. I'd expect that the eco switch merely connects to pins on the computer chip inside the inverter module, as opposed to leading to some discrete component that could be replaced if it weren't for the potting. The good news is that it's high probability that the problem is in the switch, wiring, or a connector. That is correct. The wiring diagram shows both leads connecting directly to the inverter. I did not pop off the switch to check it. After a 15 hour day I was ready to just get on the road to get home.

Honda eco throttle switch

Anyone familiar with how the eco throttle off switch works. Background, not mine but one I use at events. Runs some timing equipment that includes a laser printer and a couple computers. One of the computers (kiosk) is a regular all in one with no battery like a laptop. So when I print something the laser printer spikes the power demand and before the generator can kick up the kiosk powers down from the power interruption. In the past I would simply turn off the eco throttle before printing, problem solved. This weekend the switch would not work. It will go to high (non eco) when the invertor commands it but you cannot manually turn it off via the switch. I found a wiring schematic and the switch goes directly to the invertor. So short of a broken wire any ideas to repair? I might just pick up a cheap UPC backup for the kiosk. Probably cheaper than a trip for maintenance on the generator.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Going to take a LOT of electricity to charge those trucks. Look at CA with their blackouts. Batteries don't charge so well during blackouts.Ever try to fill with petrol during an outage? Yes, the gas stations use generators. Speaking of which... That is something to plan for, if you have a home generator or are thinking of getting one (seems like everyone in Connecticut the last few years has gotten home generators). Make sure it can safely charge everything (including a car if you have an electric) safely. If you have solar, you should be okay once the storm passes, IF you have a solar system that your house can use. Some of those solar panel lease programs don't actually let you use the power directly, it goes into the grid -- which may be knocked out. I believe if you are grid tied and no battery bank. You are SOL in a power outage with solar. It will be deactivated. I remember this discussion awhile ago about the blackouts on perfectly sunny days and those with solar had zero advantage.
