RE: Santa Fe, NM RV Parks and To-Do's

Great suggestions everybody! We will be in Taos the week before we visit Santa Fe (as we've concluded that one day in Taos is never enough time for us the past couple of years), and will be in Red River, NM the two weeks prior to our week-long Taos visit (coming from two weeks on the Arkansas River below Salida in CO). Santa Fe, NM RV Parks and To-Do's

Howdy, Any recommendations for a full hook-up park in or close to Santa Fe, NM? We are planning to arrive there Aug. 18 and stay for a week before heading home to Central Texas. Any other Santa Fe recommendations to do while there are also encouraged. Thanks, Mike.

CO 9 to Breckenridge, CO

How's CO 9 from Fairplay to Breckenridge, Colorado? Towing a 35' TT. Thinking about visiting an old friend in Blue River, CO, July 2019. Thanks.

RE: Low point drain valves

Dumb question: What are pex caps? I would like to replace those stupid T-handle pull-up valves on my low point drains w/ something easy to install that works a lot better, and doesn't leak all the time. Sheesh, what a design.

RE: Austin, Texas area RV Park for January

Pecan Park Riverside RV Park in San Marcos. We've stayed there many years.

RE: Diesel Particulate Filter cleaning solutions

Get a gauge that reads exhaust temperature, you'll know it's in regen when the temperature climbs significantly, if you can't tell by increased engine rpm's and tone. I have a Scangauge and that is one of the parameters that I read from the OBD II system while driving. There are other more sophisticated gauges, too.

RE: texas hill country

Lady Bird Municipal Park in Fredericksburg is great. A beautiful park, especially on the loop where you can watch small planes at the airport. It is central to about everything the Hill Country has to offer, and their rates are reasonable. We live here now, but have stayed at Lady Bird Park as well as other RV parks in the area prior to that.

RE: Red River, NM to Ruidoso, NM Routes

With our 40' MH we've done 38/522 to Taos; 68/84 to Santa Fe; 285 to 54 to Carizozo; 37 into Ruidoso. . . about 300 miles. At Encino coming down 285 from Santa Fe, did you get to 54 using 60 or 3? Thanks.

RE: Red River, NM to Ruidoso, NM Routes

Just did the trip Thursday into Ruidoso with 40'DP and toad. Came down 54 from Santa Rosa to Carrizozo then 380 to 37. Had no issues except there are couple of steep climbs coming in on 37. I just took it slow. Wanted to spend couple of weeks here before heading to Round Rock, TX Hi Bruce, where are you staying?

Red River, NM to Ruidoso, NM Routes

Thinking about extending our annual New Mexico Red River trip a couple of weeks to Ruidoso, NM, before we come back to the Texas heat. Looking at the map there's a few different routes to get there from Santa Fe. We have a long truck (CCLB) and a long travel trailer (35'). Any particular routes better than others? Any we should avoid? We do get to Red River via Cimarron and Eagle Nest from I25, so we do travel those types of routes. Thanks.

Ruidoso, NM RV Parks

We're thinking about camping (full hookups) in the Ruidoso, NM area. We like to fish, hike, campfire, etc., but not really fish in a stocked lake in a campground where you're charged by the fish. More of an outdoor setting for us, like lakes or streams. Any recommendations? Thanks.

RE: Breakowns while travelling

Here's my story, happened just a few weeks ago, leaving Red River, NM, climbing Bobcat Pass, limped into Eagle Nest, NM, and then the real fun began trying to get it fixed. Transmission control module and internal mode switch in the transmission went out (Duramax w/ Allison). $3K and a week later we made it home. Lesson learned, if your tow vehicle breaks around Taos, NM, don't let them tow it to Taos, take it to Santa Fe. NM woes

RE: campground near Austin TX

We do a yearly stay at Pecan Park Riverside RV Park. It's on the San Marcos river in San Marcos, just south of Austin. Our kids live in Austin (we used to), so we go there to kayak on the river and visit them. Very pretty park and the people who run it are great. Pecan Park Riverside RV Park

RE: differance between 13500 BTU/Ac and 15000 BTU/AC

2) add more vents. easy to do, the duct runs are straight, follow them and add more. I added one more in our Bedroom, one in the bath that didn't have one, and two more in the living area. Made a very noticeable difference I am entertaining adding an additional vent in the bedroom, as that seems to be our problem area w/ cooling down, if it would help enough to warrant the effort. Could you please provide some detail how you did this and what tools you used? Thanks.

RE: Stove exterior vent question

I glue a magnet and washer to the thing, magnet holds it closed fine, but it opens when the exhaust fan is running. Well done, I like it. I did the same thing w/ my metal dryer vent at home ;)

RE: NM 64 Cimarron to Eagle Nest Condition

We're in Eagle Nest. It's Monsoon season with afternoon downpours that prompts? NHP to close 64 for a couple of hours due to flash flood threat on 64 to Cimarron. Come through before 3 p.m. and you should be fine. Good info everybody, thanks. We'll be coming over from Raton Pass leaving in the morning so we should be thru that stretch of NM64 by noon hopefully.
