RE: 2021 GMC factory towing camera?

The factory camera only makes your trailer invisible if it is a box trailer/TT under 33 feet. The camera is mounted on the TT at the same height as the tail gate camera is on your TV. The camera mounted on the back of your trailer takes the place of your tail gate camera. You have to enter the length of the TT from the TV hitch into the TT in the setup for your TV (dash display in trailer mode). This will calibrate the side cameras with the new rear camera of your TT so it appears the TT is invisible. For longer a longer TT the camera will appear as a window on the back of your TT.

RE: New license plate for my TC.

Florida only has one plate and it must be attached to the rear of the vehicle and visible at all times. On a big rig the plate is on the front of the truck with no plate on the rear of the truck. The traffic cameras must be able to read your plate.

RE: Tranny fluid change

When I had my 2008 Chevy it had the spin on filter which was nice. My 2020 GMC with the 10 speed transmission does not have a dipstick or any place to check the ATF. It is a closed system that I will probably have to take to the dealer to have the ATF changed.

RE: Could the weather get any more miserable?

Its been in the 90s and gets down to the 70s at night. It has rained on every street but mine. The dry weather has provided me with a good crop of mangos and lychees. June starts the rainy season here.

RE: Coffee Survey

I had a Kureg at work and did not like it. My coffee mug holds about 2 cups of coffee and the coffee in a Kureg was not strong enough. I drink at least 12 cups of coffee a day. DW drinks her coffee with half coffee and half milk and drinks more coffee then I do. We have a 14 cup coffee maker and really like Costco coffee. In the RV we use a percolator on the stove. It comes out hot and as strong as you want to make it. I also use instant coffee when I don't want to make a pot of coffee. I also enjoy a shot of Cuban coffee which I can make on the RV stove.

RE: To portable dump tank or not to portable dump tank...

I have a 20 gallon blue tote tank that I use for grey water. I attach it to my hitch ball and it follows behind the TV to the dump station. You could use a tote tank for your gray tank and have the black and gray tank dumped every 2 weeks.

RE: Rent a Truck to tow a 5th Wheel or Gooseneck

Hertz rents F350s with the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package. You will have to call them early and have them find one for you.

RE: British couple buying an RV in the US

In Florida you will pay sales tax on the total purchase cost of the RV or vehicle. This tax is 6% to 8% depending on the county you live in. This is a one time tax. Then each year you will pay to renew the license plate which should be less then $100 dollars a year. If you rent a cheap place to live and establish Florida residency then you could apply for a Florida drivers license which you could use in all 50 states and Canada. Florida has no state income tax.

RE: Running Inverter Generator Safely From Pickup

I think running a generator in your truck bed would be as safe as running the built in generator in a RV that is located under the front bed. What is the difference? Just make sure the generator gets fresh air or it will not run correctly. I had a rat problem in my shed. So I ran my Honda EU2000 generator in my shed with the door and windows closed. After a while the generator ran out of fresh air and quit. Took of care of my rat problem.

RE: One Great Big EV Thread

Typically how many amp hrs does an EV battery store? Is it practical to charge these batteries via solar? If so how big of a solar system would be required. Typically EV car batteries range from 40 KWH to 100 KWH depending on manufacturer or model. Current EV SUV's that people use to tow RV's like small tear drop trailers, pop up trailers or boats have batteries that range from 80 KWH to 100 KWH. The EV trucks that will be coming out this year all seem to be between 140 and 200 KWH but manufacturers have been reluctant to release exact specs. Re solar. Sure...sort of. A typical 30 to 50 kilometer commute in a car uses about 6 to 8 kwh of power. So in that case solar is quite effective for charging even with a small dedicated garage system. Minimal storage is needed if you can charge during the day...but it gets trickier for those charging at night unless you are grid connected etc. Below is a picture of off grid solar EV chargers that, depending on weather, can charge 2 or 3 cars per day for a typical commute. It has built in storage as well. They are built in San Diego. It interesting that Rivian who will be producing the Rivian 1/2 ton later this year is going to be deploying these to popular trail heads and off grid camping areas. Their target market is the small trailer, tenter, camper, hiker fisher, kayaker crowd. Neat idea. No permitting or infrastructure needed. 10 minute set up. Cheers Do they make a 50amp or 30amp RV adaptor for that charging station. Looks like a good free camping spot with electricity.

RE: Bear Spray

If you did not need your bear spray then save it. It makes great hot wings. It contains cayenne pepper. Never spray a bear with expired bear spray. If the bear gets sick it may sue you.

RE: Starting Over - Heart Attack

You can rent a RV in many countries. Most rentals will be a class C or B. Several people on YouTube have rented an RV in Europe or New Zealand.

RE: Great Movie

My 2 favorite genres are sci-fi and westerns, although some sci-fi films contain bad language, especially newer ones. Westerns don't appear to have that problem. So you would probably like the movie Cowboys and Aliens. It is a good movie with Harrison Ford. Western and sic-fi in one movie.

RE: Question about window tinting

The dark tint of the RV windows will reduce the heat inside the RV. An additional automobile style tint will reduce the heat and UV light inside the RV but make it darker inside. A dark window tint does not attract more heat like a black painted surface does. Shades or curtains pulled down will also reduce the heat inside a RV. On a MH the passenger, drivers window and front window tint are regulated by state and federal laws. The rest of the RV is considered a house. You have to read the manufactures specification to determine if a reflective tint is better then a non reflective tint. Tint brands are different. Are reflective sun glasses better for your eyes then a non reflective sun glasses?

RE: Standard hitch vs. gooseneck hitch

You may want to look at the Reese Goose Box or the or GEN-Y Executive pin box adaptor. Others may damage your frame or void your warranty.

RE: New Dually - Need Hitch, Toolbox, Rolling Cover Advice

I have the Revolver X4 for one year and have had no problems. I don't live in a cold climate which may make a difference in appearance. The tool box will have to be an under the rails tool box if you want to use a cover. Even with the cover rolled up I don't know if you will be able to open the tool box. The new trucks are high so you may need a small ladder to reach the items in your tool box. It would be nice if they made a tool box were the lid would slide towards the middle of the box.

RE: Campfire story about "you and space?"

It would have to be a Toy Hauler so I could pick up all them Mars rovers we have sent to Mars over the years. I would use the rovers as my 4x4 side by side to go off road. The TH would have to be a 4 season TH due to the cold winters I hear they have on Mars.
