You do not need commercial plates to tow in NYS.

RE: Trailer too long for truck?

I towed a scaled 8300 lb 35ft Outback with a Chevy 1500 max tow 10 times a year for 6 years. Weight was never a problem but wind was. A couple trips I had to take secondary roads instead of the interstate. Ultimately it’s up to you and your set up. The hitch being dialed in is absolutely critical. Expect days when you won’t be able to relax. It’s certainly not for everyone. If you’re the type of person that gets nervous when your rig makes the slightest move then I would look for something smaller.

RE: Snow loads for Trailer

I wouldn’t be concerned at all. I live in an area that receives between 120-300 inches of snow every season (Central NY/Tug Hill Plateau) and there are tons of seasonal campers that get left outside all winter. I have never seen or heard of one not handling the snow load. And I can guarantee that a lot of those aren’t as well built or as good of condition as yours!

RE: Collecting 5th wheel Tow Data, just for fun, 2000 mile trip

And HOW are you going to know they’re overloaded?
I won’t know 100%, but common sense and years of experience comes into play. If I see a 1/2 ton sitting on its axle and pulling a 9k lb trailer, then he’s overloaded. Or at least he’s not set up correctly and more than likely should be pulling with a 3/4 ton.
Anyone who has even some experience towing can look and tell if someone is overloaded, in my opinion.
Lol that’s what I thought! A 9k lb trailer can absolutely be within a modern 1/2 ton’s capability. For what it’s worth, my 5th wheel is 9600lbs and within ALL the trucks ratings. So would you deem it “overloaded” as you pass by me?
There is a difference in a 1/2 ton property set up to tow 9k lbs verses one that is not. In fact some modern 1/2 tons can tow 12k, but you are going to struggle. My “overloaded” 1/2 ton category applies to those who are obviously overloaded.
Are you implying every 1/2 ton truck can tow at 9k lbs and not be overloaded?
Of course not. How could I tell by passing them on the highway. No way of knowing how they’re equipped or how much the rig ways. That was my point.

RE: Edmunds half ton drag race

Can’t speak for the hybrid F150 like the one used in the video but I have a 2020 Ecoboost F150 and I’ve had the Chevy 6.2 w/ 8 speed in a 2015 Silverado. While the Ecoboost is a great and powerful engine, the 6.2 was clearly faster. I actually had the Silverado at the track for a night and ran a best of [email protected] with it shutting off as I ran thru the traps. (not that it made much difference in ET) Average run was in the 14.10s @ 97. As a retired drag racer I’d be willing to say my Ecoboost would run mid to low14s. Doesn’t really matter to me as they both perform great for what I need them to do. BTW if you like to keep your foot in the 6.2 daily driving it, it definitely required 93 to keep it from pinging. Towing it was absolutely required. Didn’t matter what the owners manual said lol

When I bought my F150 last month the salesman told me they had 2 F250s left and wouldn't get any until January.

RE: Found a unicorn

Yes it came with the brake controller and the pro trailer backup sync
Did you get your new ride yet?
Yes, I picked it up Monday and I've gotten the clear windows tinted and the tonneau cover will be here Friday. I also ordered towing mirrors that should be here next week.

RE: Outdoor Storage and Snow

We get 120"-300" per season here in central/northern NY. Never heard of anyone having a snow load problem. Now mice or tree branches, that's a different story! The trailer is never going to be "too" level that water doesn't run off it. The only thing I'd ever worry about is exposed OE vents that get brittle and can break. Maxxairs take care of that problem.

RE: GM's Max Trailering Package

People that say 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons are the same price have to stop comparing msrp and actually try to get 10K off a comparable 3/4 ton. They'll kick you out of the dealership! Remember, I said comparable, not a Denali or Platinum diesel.

RE: Found a unicorn

Nice truck, should serve you well. I'm not sure what year they dropped the tow mirrors being standard with the max tow pkg, or why. The 7-lug vrs 6-lug, not that big of deal, and maybe a good thing overall. Does it have LT E-rated tires?
Happy towing,
Jerry
It does have LT tires but I'm not sure what load rating they are. I pick it up tomorrow and have to give it a look.

RE: Found a unicorn

Have been looking for this configuration, not thinking I would find it sitting on a lot 8 miles from home! Just have to get those awful windows tinted after I pick it up on Monday.
Super crew cab
6.5' bed
3.5 EcoBoost
10 speed
3.73 gear
Heavy Duty payload package
Max trailer package

4800# rawr
2560# payload

Man, i wish i could find one!
An XL?
Yes. Really wanted an XLT but it had almost everything that I wanted. The windows are the biggest issue for me. Getting them tinted the day after I pick it up.

Do the newer Max Payload models have 6 lug wheels now? Earlier models had 7. Just curious
They come with 6. I believe they've been 6 for a while now.

Why doesn’t/wouldn’t it have towing mirrors?
The mirrors are a seperate option. They should comw with the max tow package. My Silverado was the same. Had to order them separately.
