RE: Wild Animals

Had a black bear do a very close bluff charge towards my adult son in some dune/forest area. I happened to be 15 feet away from him, thought it was our other son messing around in the dark to scare him. I yelled bear and it stopped a couple feet in front of him. It took a while to get him to leave, he wasn’t too scared of us yelling at him. He came back later to get in my beer cooler, put a stop to that nonsense real quick. Again took a while to get him to leave. While my son and I were hollering at the bear, the other son snuck into the truck and locked the doors, he is an adult as well, lol.
Another morning walk with our dog I had a bull moose spot us from a distance and stopped us from continuing to the rv. Popped out maybe 10 feet from us. Me and pupper sidestepped behind couple trees and just had a stare down until he got bored of us. Tried pulling phone out to take a pic, dropped it from shaking. Didn’t bother breaking eye contact, phone was picked up after.

RE: 31ish foot Bunkhouse model advice

We have a Grand Design 2800bh that has full access to everything with the slide in. Off your list, the only thing it doesn’t have is outside access to the bathroom.

RE: Curt BetterWeigh?

I have spent money on dumb things, but even I know when it’s just too dumb to even entertain. This is one of them, shook my head as I read it.

RE: Tank treatment that can restore sensor accuracy?

I have never had a reason to use the ice theory in any of my other trailers. The reasoning behind the time I did use it was due to waste build up that had solidified from the previous owner before it sat on a dealers lot. It was a 3 hour drive home to the storage lot, and it worked for me anyway.

RE: Tank treatment that can restore sensor accuracy?

Make darn sure your black tank really is empty, look down the toilet to confirm. We bought a used 2018 model and I thought the sensors had issues as I drained the lines myself and nothing more was coming out. First long outing we were full the following day, verified by looking down the hatch, lol. There was the pyramid left behind from purchasing, an issue we had to deal with ASAP. Bags of ice on the way home thankfully loosened enough to drain correctly, then using the factory rinse technique we got it cleaned fully and gauges now work as they should.

RE: No heat / Furnace not working

I would also check to make sure the fresh air intake from the outside is clear of any debris. I had a pop up camper years ago that I tried everything to get heat on. Finally on the day I sold it, literally, I found a 2 wasp nest in there. It was very small but heat kicked on right after, doh…

RE: Do you pay for winterizing?

Camping world shows around $150 here in Colorado. Local small guy will come out to the storage yard and do it for $160 PLUS charge per jug of pink stuff. Crazy.
I bring it home, give it the final wash of the season and then winterize myself. I don’t know anyone either who pays to get it done.

RE: 2021 Coleman lantern edition 285BH

We ended up getting a 2019 Grand Design 2800BH. It had the 2 way fridge and so much nicer inside.

RE: 2021 Coleman lantern edition 285BH

We mainly boondock. My current trailer we are selling has the typical 2 way fridge, so we run the propane for that. I added a 100 watt solar panel and 2 T-105 batteries and never have any issue with electrical needs. But the more and more I dig into the 12volt fridges, they are primarily for shore power it seems. I talked to the salesman again who stated there is a solar panel on top, the charge controller was supposed to be in the storage bay, which I don't recall seeing while I was looking at the unit. I asked them to send me a pic of that and they were also looking if they have a 2 way fridge option. This at the time of typing was 3 hours ago, not thinking there is a charge controller. But then they were also stating this fridge can run for 3 days on these batteries before batteries need charged. After doing more and more research I am just not buying that pitch. Everything I see shows it will drain these batteries in 6-12hours, and this unit has a smaller outside fridge. It would need a lot of solar and a big battery bank to maintain this. I am passing on the unit.

2021 Coleman lantern edition 285BH

Did a walk through of a 285BH tonight as we are in the process of selling ours. Salesperson mentioned fridges are ran off the batteries, which are charged via a 160 watt solar panel on the roof. Now that I am home looking through specs, it has a charging port, nothing stating a panel on the roof from factory. Does anyone have one that can confirm? Otherwise I will know more tomorrow after more talks with the dealer.
