RE: Weights. Am I missing something?

My truck has always been tagged as "non-commercial" in CA and now in OR. As far as getting stopped for having stuff in the bed that's an old wife's tale. It's no different than loading stuff in a station wagon of a van. As long as you're not making money hauling stuff they can't fine you. It is a subject that was ignored for generations and only in last 10 or so years become "revenue source" for cash-starving California government. My 1999 F450 flatbed was registered for its "curb weight" of 8000 lb till about 2008 when I got pulled over and got "fix it ticket" who cost me $600 for new weight stickers alone. Bare in mind all pickups in CA are subject to drive via commercial scales (wagons and passenger vans are not). Some scales have "no pickup" signs what rules F150 and similar out, but all pickups were historically driving by -to never be disturb. Yet in last years I heard about several "scale chase" happening. Again, cash starving state is using old laws to generate new income. Do you feel lucky? Bring it on! None of my duallies have been tagged commercial over the last 30 years, that's why I buy trucks with a rear seat...cause they are "personal vehicles". I doubt that your 450 had a rear seat and with a flatbed you were just asking to be called on it. I will NEVER be required to stop at a weigh station, cause I'm not a commercial vehicle....period.

RE: just saw my 1st 2020 F-350's

I can say that we're lookin REAL HARD at getting a 2020 version of Red. If I can get it for around 42K we'll probably pull the trigger in the spring. The Ford dealer might laugh a bit, then tell you to get off the property. :B In Lariat trim, DRW with 4WD and 6.7, $42K? I'll take one also, maybe two. May get kinda close with an XL with 6.2 gas, but I doubt it. Who said I wanted a Lariat with a diesel? My 30 year old truck, by today standards is barely an XLT, you know apples to apples....lol, and Red's not a diesel. I've already priced a truck that's closest to a replacement for Red with the exception of adding 4wd, cause a 4x4 wasn't available in a dually back in the day or I'd have it. With that said at 20% off MSRP it comes in at around 42K-43K. But you can bend over and take what the dealer shovels your way, I've NEVER paid MSRP for anything I've ever bought. I buy a truck to be a truck and expect it to work for a living, just like Red does. I don't need or want all the nanny wohoo **** and "Tech" that they throw on trucks today, save that for the "status" queens, it's just more garbage to break in the long run from what I see and isn't needed, least of all by me. Once the "newness" wears off of the the 2020's they will deal on them...it might take till the fall to get it at my price, but I'll get it.

RE: Trouble with California

I go between Or and CA all the time and go through the "AG" stops all the time. I have been asked a few times if they can "inspect" the inside of my TC for whatever, I just laugh at them and say no. They have no authority for such...in fact 90% of the time the Leo's don't have the authority, but people are intimidated by the request and submit to it, why I have no idea. Know your rights and demand respect from ANYONE, or be a sheep and get trampled on. I'm sorry if I found this incredulous. I don't think you'll even be asked, and you'll just be waived at the border if you have a Oregon license plate. That's within flying distance of any insect and don't need you car to be transported. These nearby states, up to WA have joint-coordinated pest control protocols. Really? you've ridden with my wife and I driving in and out of CA over the last 10 years? I love the drivel of some people who choose there own "truths" over others facts. You can choose your "alternate" reality if you wish, but quit making statements about things that you don't have first hand knowledge of.

I think you'll be fine, but in the long run it'sup to you. This rig was 1,800lbs over sticker and it didn't care either. https://i.imgur.com/Ad182VMl.jpg

RE: TC off truck

We've been doing it for decades. Our TC wasn't designed to be used off-truck, so we had to build additional floor structure for it, and always have supports under it when we use it. We carry it with us all the time...takes about 15 minutes to unload and setup. https://i.imgur.com/gYQyut6l.jpg

RE: Host Mammoth Triple Dog Dare Challenge Report

We use removable reflectix sheets on all the windows in the cold and it works great. I need to do something under the bed for cold weather. It got REALLY COLD in the C/O when it was 6* out.

RE: Really Disappointing (T/C Weight)

I've been over my "sticker" since I've owned it....LOL. 4,500lbs loaded and ready to camp, puts me 400-500 over GVW and the truck could care less. The ONLY thing DOT cares about is if your axles and tires can handle the load, and my rig is well within those figures. Upper stableloads and Bilstein shock is the only "upgrades" that have been done, and the truck still has a "rake" to it that requires blocks under the front tires to be level. GO FOR IT! https://i.imgur.com/0fndzJEl.jpg

RE: Single Rear Wheel vs Dually - Whats the Best for You

^^^hehe that is not saying much for your HD, but I know it's true.... cruisers feel wonderful in the curves but as far as speed is concerned they can have a hard time keeping up to a logging truck. I don't ride like Grandpa that's for sure! https://i.imgur.com/zLR2LzQl.jpg Nice bike, and yes HD's can corner decently when setup properly. I have replaced my ground off floorboards more than once. Is it a crotch rocket? Not by any means, but then I can walk upright after 500 miles too...LOL. Red is a 30 year old DRW and it will corner harder than I care to drive it...with that much rear tire it just sticks. and I LOVE driving 74, if you like that try Hwy 2!

RE: Please help me decide on a truck camper

Northern Lite, hands down. So what if there is wood? Where is the water going to get past the fiberglass shell? Wood is great as long as you keep it dry. Your only potential leaks are at the vents and windows really, and it is unlikely the water is able to run inside the fiberglass construction, it will have to leak into the camper which will be obvious. and EVERY hole that's ever been put in it....lol. If you do proper maint, it isn't a problem, if you don't they will ALL leak and rot.
