RE: Ford 7.3 gas engine

I have an old 7.5 gasser, and run around with the TC just fine. These 2 engines have similar numbers, but with the 10 speed auto, it'll stay in the "zone" easier.
I wouldn't give it a second thought, to go gasser.

RE: New Member and Future Truck Camper Owner

Welcome! I see you got the correct truck to start with. That should be good for most of the TC's out there.

RE: Towing 7500lb trailer w/ 48" stinger?

I towed this for 1100 miles on a 42" stinger (7,200lbs), truck never knew it was there. No adverse handling and I was in 60mph gusts for 60 miles at one point.

RE: Needs some work, a project camper

My $0.02....When I bought our S&S I knew it would need some "attention", I bought it for $4,000.00 with the truck it sat on.

I swapped the wheels and tire with my truck and sold the crew cab for $3,600.00 and kept the camper. It took me 6 months to "fix" the S&S working on it like a full time job to bring it back.

That being said.....I would do it again, but I wouldn't pay more than $800.00 for it.

RE: What did you do to your truck today?

Pushed Red into the future......added an alarm and upgraded the CD to an Alpine bluetooth unit tethered to our phones. Now she's all fancy with redneck sync.....lol.

RE: Ford 7.3 gas burner mpg hauling TC

Every RV, I've owned over the last 40+ years got less than 10 mpg. No matter WHAT it was....Moho, 5er, TC, or TT. The "best" fuel mileage rig is my present 31 year old 460/ZF-5 F350 running just over 10,000lbs loaded and ready to camp. Our S&S runs around 4,500lbs ready to camp and Red has gotten a 12 year lifetime average, with the TC on her of 9.4 mpg and she gets 14 on the highway empty.
I believe the 7.3 gasser will be close to that, but with the 10 speed trans should drive light years better than my old truck.

RE: Start of an Adventure with an S & S 8SC

Yes it was, I didn't have any problems finding it. I also glued and doweled the filler piece along with a few screws. I also sprayed a 10% bleach solution on any dark wood I found to kill any wood eating bacteria.

RE: Is it safe to use truck camper on jack stands

Been doing it for decades....4 screw jacks supporting 2 2x6 under the belly and the main jacks, and she's solid as a rock.
I would of never thought that using planks and jacks in addition to the truck camper's
jack stands. Thank you for sharing.
thanks, I carry them everywhere

RE: Start of an Adventure with an S & S 8SC

Ours was 3/4" x 1" cross beams that were tied together with straps. I added a steel "stiffener" to the main support beam in the front. You have to be careful when setting the tension on the straps, I pulled mine to tight and needed to redo it to get the tin to work.

RE: Start of an Adventure with an S & S 8SC

I don't know if things changed by 2008 but most of the C/O area on ours is 7/8" plywood sides. When I repaired ours I used the front windows for effect, it was just to hot in the summer and to cold in the winter with them open. I used a piece of plastic bathroom wallboard to for the wrap and enclosed the window area with 7/8" marine grade plywood. I've stayed in the TC down to 6*f and was still comfortable sleeping in the C/O.

I believe that they did cover the drain and your probably going to find rot like I did. They are pretty easy to fix though and are built like a tank.

RE: Start of an Adventure with an S & S 8SC

I used Butyl tape for under the frames on anything (really never dries) and then Dicor to seal out the weather after. I just cleaned, painted, and reused all my trim stuff.
