2001 Brave SE 29A. The cable is going somewhere to the front.

Onan starter cable

I am trying to find where the onan starter cable is going. I trow away the Onan and have portable 3500 for emergency. I redone the Onan compartment and have more space. I want to add more batteries, but do not know where the starter cable is going. I could use this cable to hook up to house batteries. I can not find the wiring diagram. Thanks.

RE: Repalcing Onan

Well, I decided to remove the Onan for repairs and come to the halt. I have all disconnected, but in my RV, I have a bracket on each side. While, I can remove the bracket on one side, I can not get to the bolts on another. Does any one remove Onan from 2001 Brave SE? 29A.

RE: Repalcing Onan

Onan corner the market for RV and that is why is so expensive - no competition. New 4000 cost form 3000 to 4000, while 4000 portable cost 600. 3500 Champion will fit into space, but there is problem with cooling. Will have to add a fan to blow down, but Champion is not reliable. I like the Ryobi - less noisy and less fuel. Honda is the best and 1/3 the price that Onan. Yes, some mods will have to be made, but I believe that will be worth in the long run. Yes, Onan is "plug and play", so a Windows for computers, but I run Linux on mine.

RE: Repalcing Onan

The Onan I have is microlite 4000. Previous owner replaced the carburettor, but in process,he pinch the wire going to fuel shut off solenoid, That fried the computer. I bypassed the wire and worked fine for a while, but now, the fuel gauge sensor is messing up and gen will run for a min. The tank is full. When run, does not produce any electricity - could be computer related too. I am just tied of fixing this piece of junk and Onan is way too expensive to replace. The Ryobi, that I have, is pull start and will take too much "hassle" to convert to electric start. Just do not like computer controlled generator.

RE: Repalcing Onan

^^^ This. I've never seen a factory installed one that wasn't. Me too. I just got tied of Onan computer issues. It is 20years old and spend a lot of time and money trying to keep it going. I have Ryobi 3600 but is not electric start. Just wander if someone was successful to replace Onan with other genset.

RE: Motorhome shock repair near pahrump, nv

Yesterday, I replaced front shocks on my Brave 29A. It took me an hour. most of the time, fight with removing the bolts. It is not that difficult. Beats replacing the air bags that I did 2 days ago. If I can do it, anyone can.

RE: Onan microlite 4000

The previous owner replaced the carburetor and apparently got the wire pinch. My options: jump the wire, take of the carburetor or take the gen down on ground to get access to this wire. I vote for jump.

RE: Onan microlite 4000

There is better photo of computer connections http://jestarkel.com/pics/3.jpg Unlike the other connectors this one have 3 rows of pins. Looking horizontal from 1-8 the 3rd one should be the fuel shut off solenoid. Previous testing that one shows occasional continuity, but was not conclusive. I an suspecting the wire is damage that is why I am trying to bypass.

RE: Onan microlite 4000

At the end of my model# there is J, but the manual said is H. More confusion. All of them shows 15 pins, I count 17 in mine.

RE: Onan microlite 4000

Is your genset LP or gasoline? I wish of LP, but is gas. The shut off solenoid is at the bottom of carburetor.

RE: Onan microlite 4000

I did jump the solenoid and gen works, but to shut down, I had to remove the jump (12V to solenoid).
