WOW, It's huge and beautiful. I've never been in a triple slide but have been in a lance 1172. I have an 1181 and the size didn't really impress me but everyone on here says the triple slides are a game changer and I believe it after your pics. Congrats and good luck!!! Joe

Hello and welcome! Let me see if I can help. There is also a section "Truck Camper University" at the top of the TC forum. There may be some info in there. Be prepared to do some reading and searching on the internet. All the information is out there. Now, the battery question. If the camper has been sitting unused for a while, the battery is probably very empty or even defective. Have you tried to connect to shore power and does it take a charge? Do you have a cheap multimeter and can you find out the battery voltage? A basic understanding of some electrical principles (power - voltage - current) will help you a lot in your situation. Solar can help you charge the battery, but it will not do much to save propane. I assume the original propane / 2- or 3-way fridge is still in the camper. A 3-way fridge will cool best on propane. It has an AC 120V heating element that will work almost as well, but it consumes several 100 Watts of AC power. It also has a 12V heating element with around 100-200 Watts that will keep it cold, but otherwise doesn't do much but run down your 12V battery quickly. Why? If your 12 V battery has a capacity of 100 Ah (Ampere-hours), it will give you (at the most, very theoretically, depending on the type of battery and temperature, actual numbers can be a lot less but never more) a current of 100 Amperes for one hour. Or 10 Amperes for 10 hours. 10 Amperes x 12 Volts are just 120 Watts - that is in the range of the 12 V heating element of your fridge. Since that element is probably active full time when you run your fridge on battery power alone, it will deplete your full 100 Ah battery in 10 hours. You could use an inverter to run the fridge on 120V AC from the battery. But now you need to power that much stronger AC heating element in the fridge (say, maybe 500 watts) from the battery, plus additional losses from the inverter. So your battery will end up empty rather quickly just as well. Or you can use propane, where one tank will last you quite a while (weeks, depending on ambient temperature), and the 12 V battery is only used to power the control board of the fridge, but not to cool it down. Now, about solar. If you install a 150 Watt panel, the charge from that panel might just about offset the power usage of the 12 V heating element in the fridge. But only while the sun is out. In the morning, your (12 V, 100 Ah) battery will still be empty when you run the fridge on 12 V over night. And it will not get a lot of solar charge in the daytime, as most if not all of the energy would go to the fridge (150 W solar - 150 W fridge). Now what can you do? Add more solar. Add more battery capacity. Replace fridge with a compressor fridge, maybe a residential unit. Probably a combination of all three. At the lowest end, if you just want to get rid of the propane fridge, a 100 Ah battery and a 150 W solar panel may be sufficient to power an RV type compressor fridge. But there will not be much extra power (e. g. to watch TV). But you will still need propane for heat, hot water, and cooking. Your second question, about the pipes: Try http://photoposting.is-great.net to post photos here. Follow instructions on that site. About the water heater: Google for RV water heater images. There is an almost square panel on one of the outside walls that opens downward. It has a small rectangular grill for the water heater exhaust. As old as your camper is, you may have to go outside and manually light the water heater. Newer units have an on/off switch inside the camper, usually near the water pump switch. Be sure that the fresh water tank and water heater are filled with water before you turn it on. Good luck with your new-to-you camper! Mega ditto's and yes please post some pics.

No more spare parts for Atwood since they were bought out by HJ...So either find a used one, or try to fix the existing one. But there is not necessarily something wrong with the remote, the receiver may be broken just as well. *IF* the remote is the culprit, that may be due to a loose solder connection. Some specialists have resoldered boards with a heat gun with some success. Might be worth a try. Rieco Titan jacks are fully compatible (or so I have read here https://www.truckcampermagazine.com/news/rieco-titan-announces-atwood-replacement-kit/), and you may be able to replace the control board and remote with their Electronic Control Kit - Model Number 36131. But their remote does not look like it has an extra button for the slide... Good luck! Yep, before I changed out the jacks from the old Atwood's to the new RT I hooked up the control box and used the remote. I did change out the control box though. FYI, If you can follow a wire it's the easiest thing in the world to do. Literally plug and play and I have an 1181. It did control the Atwood's! I owned a stable lift got nine years they are height adjustable but you have to lift the unit off the ground to adjust it. Perhaps the owner will let you adjust it on his truck to switch to yours. I do not remember the adjustment height but it wasn’t much.

Welcome Debora, Like any old camper it is wood and for the most part after 43 years probably is in need of some frame repair somewhere, even if you can't see it. If it has high-jackers camper jacks on it you can still buy rebuild kits for them. No matter how bad they leak they are easily rebuilt and darn near indestructible. Electric I would assume old style Atwood's that are in the same league as the others. If your going from a motor home to a TC your in for a shock cause TC'rs are generally pretty small. You probably won't realize that until your first night under your overhead cab that's a couple of feet away from your nose. Anyway welcome to the forum! As far as your manual the best place I can think of getting one or a copy of one is Lance campers directly, LOA forum or EBay. Of course that's assuming you can get one and they had one. The fridge is a tuff one cause camper fridges are top dollar for the bottom of the line unit but a good GE dorm fridge would work perfect especially if your going to concentrate on 110 volts. I recommend the latter. That's of course if your not planning a cross country trip just local so it doesn't thaw out. That's a good switch off from a holding tank to a Porta potty. I recommend as well. The cable coming out that has been cut is likely your shore line which will be 110. It should be about an inch thick but if it's smaller it may be your truck to camper cable but you should no that coming from MH"s. I guess everything else has been covered above so good luck. I would look for any water damage before I put a dime into it. Joe

Someone had changed all the badges and trim to Chevy. And I was so involved with looking at the truck itself, didn’t even give the title a second glance. First clue was when I removed the tailgate trim panel ,also replaced with a Chevy one, and the original appearing tailgate had GMC stamped in it. Further inspection showed the glove box tag with “Sierra” package. And the grill is the aftermarket one you see in the pic, so that was no clue either. I re-used it and just fitted a GMC logo to it. That's a good looking truck. I had a semi-rare 1982? Chevy K20 Suburban. Loaded with what appeared to be all available options, even quad shocks on the front axle. I drove to work and on hunting trips. Had a couple local boys put a cheap but decent paint job on it. My son was in the 11th grade and wanted it bad. I "sold" it to him. Of course, he put a lift kit and Buckshot Monster Mudders on it. Of course he took the 3rd row back seat out. And of course, the Turbo Hydramatic 400 had to be rebuilt. When he went off to college I traded him back a 1991? Chevy Sport Truck, which was a SS454 clone. Wish I had them both back. The Cheyenne and Silverado are the exact same truck with different trim. They're both Chevy's but it's a good example of parts switching and marketing nonsense... The Silverado was a top of the line truck but the Cheyenne was a more basic truck. I know that all parts don't match but I've been replacing parts on these two trucks for decades and I've never had a mismatch between the part numbers for both. I believe this is "somewhat" true between the Chevy and GMC lines as well. Also with Cadillac and GMC. This is an interesting short article about the basic differences between the GMC and Chevy truck line. There is a wealth of information concerning parts exchanging between the two on many forums. OK, What camper are you getting, What truck are you thinking about putting it on all three big names are close to the same but of course they could be upgraded. Where do you live that you'll be in deep snow? I think your saying it will be a daily driver as well as a camper carrier. Bloof is right in that there's to much generalization. You'll have to zero in on some thing for us. With that said, I have a daily driver and have no problems with or without the camper and mine has every acc. in the world except air bags. It is a ruff ride with the camper off! If it's a 4x4 it shouldn't have a problem in deep snow with or without the camper on. My Silverado dually with 4x4 took us everywhere we wanted to go in the north east winters for many years. Weight limitations are specific to each and every camper. What ever your comfortable with. I personally like the longer wheel base but I have never off roaded. Mine is a mega cab and I can't live without it. Good luck Have you seen the price of diesal?

You can also use an old style belly bar if it doesn’t interfere with anything under the frame like exhaust or drive shaft . Given you use the right size material they are very strong . The down side is they are always there sticking out . You can make them short and use removable inserts . Keep in mind that with either Torklift or belly bar you are more likely to rip out the attachment on the camper long before either of them fail . Yeah, since the conversation has already taken a turn I'll jump in. Belly bar, 25 bucks, welder 50 bucks, hardware 30 bucks, fast guns were the expensive part. Been that way since 2009. Everything from Torklift is overpriced because they own the market.

Since water weighs 8.3 lbs a gallon, my full tank was around 500 lbs. I saved a few hundred lbs by not filing it all of the way up. My weight with ALL tanks full (black, gray, fresh, propane, and fuel) is 13750 lb. That included two humans, with the RV provisioned for a 2 week trip. Fresh water is 80 us gallons or 664 lbs. That's less than 5% of the total weight. Not enough to make a difference in fuel economy. With all due respect, I don't agree with that. 700 pounds is 700 pounds. I'm certainly not challenging your way of doing things just totally disagree.

It happened in Fayetteville NC and I was pulled over buy the DOT police. He weighed each tire on a portable scale and gave me a 180 dollar ticket. He said you have to pay the ticket but all you have to do is have the truck registered from 13000 LBS to 15000 LBS, problem solved. Came back to Binghamton went to DMV and for 25 dollars they upped my weight on the spot. I even got a sticker for the door. It's amazing what money will do! I'll even put a smiley face as to not offend anyone! :) So in NC all they care about (if they actually care at all) is the weight your licensed for? LOL!! I've heard of other states doing that - allow drivers to pick the weight range (and FEE that goes along with it). BTW: Not trying to be 'weight police' just trying to understand where all these stories are coming from and if they have ANY basis in fact. I joined in 2001 and the 'stories' keep coming up like a bad lunch every few days for the last 21yrs!!! - Mark0. I have no proof and I wouldn't believe it either...

Dale I was going to post but mine is nothing like that. I have an 07 and the switch is mounted on the wall inside the door and I have a completely different motor. My electric brake switch is in the kitchen cabinet so nothing is on the jack remote. If I understood you correctly.
